The loss is beginning to sink in a bit and starting to sting. The fan base really needs a game this weekend.

Our next two opponents games this weekend (Weber St. Vs OR State and UN_ vs Wyoming) will present a better picture of what we are up against. Personally I think the Whioux are a harder game than what a lot of people are expecting. They had a decent defense and will probably be improved again this year. For this game...last years game vs Weber was not won until late 2nd half and included a defensive score. Their defense played very well vs our offense but I have no idea what/who they return this year. Both of these games are loseable if the Bison show up and lay an egg

They had a decent defense last year. Return quite a few guys. Also are starting But can they move the ball on offense? They didn't decide on a QB until late in camp. His stats (26-75, 34%, 6 INTs, 2 TDs, 276 yards in 4 games) are very underwhelming last year. Also they are weak at the RB position. Three out of their five RB's are hurt, and they are listing a 170lb true freshman at starter. Granted they should be more healthy by week 3 of the season. Not one of their returning WR's has over 275 yards. I don't see their offense being overwhelming. By than our defensive will have improved immensely.

The interesting thing about Weber St was they lost their first 9 games of the year least year (before winning 2 or their last 3) and their most lopsided loss in that stretch outside of 31 point season opening beatdown against Arizona St was their 17 point loss to NDSU.

They were picked 10th and 11th of 13 in the Big Sky coaches and media polls, respectively (one spot behind UND in each). They return their leading rusher in bruising RB Zach Smith (6'0" 220) who averaged 5.8 ypc last year and was preseason 3rd team All-Big Sky. Not really sure who their QB will be, they return both Billy Green (who threw every pass against NDSU) and Jadrian Clark (who started the last 5 games of the season). Both put up serviceable but not spectacular numbers. They lost their top receiver but their 2nd leading receiver Cam Livingston returns (856 receiving yards, 1 TD). They lose two of their top 3 tacklers on defense but the one they return, Emmett Tela, is a preseason 1st team All-Big Sky LB.

Playing 3 Big Sky teams gives the start of the year an odd feeling. Used to having the fbs game as an underdog and then a couple of easier games.

The next two games will be a challenge. Must bring A game.

Here are the results of the games played after our 3 losses since 2011:

2011 - Win 37-21 at Western Illinios
2012 - Win 54-0 at USD (in Sioux Falls)
2014 - Win 45-10 at Missouri State

All of these "bounce-back" wins were on the road and none of them were coming off a bye week. So even though Weber played us tough last year and are likely better than most people think, the extra week of prep, the home crowd and ANOTHER banner raising..................will likely catch them up in the 1st of a 2-week "perfect storm" of pain inflicted after an opening day Bison loss! :nod:

They rushed for 27 yards. Passed for 235 and 3 TDs. Our QB threw 2 costly interceptions that gave them short fields accounting for 2 TDs. Meanwhile they rushed for 66 yard and a TD and threw for 240 and most importantly 0 TDs against you guys.

So I'd say our defense did ok. Our offense lost us a lot of games last year.

The defensive backfield looks very good. Given the continued difficulty the Bison WRs have getting separation it could be a long day for the offense again if they can't pass.

Their DBs are very good and came up quickly to stop anything from getting around the edge. OSU did much better running up the middle.

NDSU needs to do what they do. Run the ball and pass of that. TEs could be huge.

(I know it is broadcast on NBC; asking who actually runs the production.) To me, if NDSU controls the production, they should have some say on who is calling the games. If they have NBC run the production, I can see how that gets more difficult.

That was my guess. He was a pretty good QB in high school but that's not a terribly high bar. He got recruited to Stanford. Not everybody gets a DI offer, especially back then.

Interesting. If true, I would think the fact Feeney is an NDSU alum would have more influence on his players choosing NDSU than him broadcasting NDSU games on TV. Maybe UND should complain to the Moorhead School District and have him removed as head football coach.

That was my guess. He was a pretty good QB in high school but that's not a terribly high bar. He got recruited to Stanford. Not everybody gets a DI offer, especially back then.

If you are talking about Ashat Berg he washed out at Stanford and ended up at UNI and had a pretty good career as I recall. That explains a lot I think.

That definitely was my experience too. I've said this on another thread. We were in definitely different strata in high school, he was on the top and I was on the bottom. The thing is, a lot of us grew up and became better people. He most certainly did not.

South High in the 80's was pretty miserable if you weren't a jock. I'm pretty sure it was similar elsewhere but it seemed really bad there. Part of it was because it was so big, you didn't have to associate with anyone if you didn't want to. Smaller schools seemed to have more community to them.

I grab a couple every year and plant them at the lake cabin in Detroit Lakes. Three of them are doing great. 2 blue spruces are about 12' and 10' tall and 1 ponderosa is about 14' tall. A lot of years for that growth but it's pretty cool, call them my Bison trees!
