OK, this game will be a challenge to do as a road trip. So, I hope recruiting keeps going well and the Bison are still competitive with P5 schools in 5 years. Odd to think none of the players that are Freshman today will be around to participate in that game unless they have eligibility like Vraa, or they become a coach.

Let's put it this way, the redshirts from this year's recruiting class (the class that hasn't even signed a LOI yet) will be seniors that year. Continued success should play more of a part though.

I like it but I think they could have gotten more $. Oregon has money to burn and by 2020 $650K is only going to be worth maybe $400K right now.

Wow, I think I'll have pretty good seats for this. Fuck me running. I wasn't expecting this.

Hopefully both teams can keep the mo. As a guy that watches every game of both programs, I've felt for years that our style of ball could have actually competed with them, at least to give them a decent scare. The 2013 Bison team might have even squeaked one out in ten. Look no further than their fits with a hard hitting Stanford.

FWIW - Tailgating in Eugene is absolutely awesome. The energy of the Bison tailgate but equally spread out over an area about 4 times the size. Plus, on September 5th, I can absolutely guarantee you fantastic weather.

Oregon isn't mean, they are fast. They would rather run around you than through you.

Not worried. We have outscored USD 143-7 and our style of football doesn't lend to scoring 60.

NDSU vs USD 47-7 (on the road 2014)
USD vs NDSU 42-0 (home 2013)
NDSU vs USD 54-0 (sioux falls)

And NDSU beat the Yotes by 40 in Vermillion. Allowing for the 3 points for home field.................that's a Bison win by 43 points over USD. So it's Oregon +49 and NDSU +43.

So does this encourage our freshmen to be walking into Coach K's office and yelling "redshirt me!". Seriously, this is a nice way to break it to young men that do redshirt there are games in the future they will be needed past the ocho peat. They are the worst kind of fans. Spoiled, entitled, and they don't really know football at all. All they know in the college football world is that they are Oregon, everyone is inferior to them, and they beat everyone by 35+ at home. How is that different from every other P5 teams fans? Most don't know anything about teams outside the P5 and don't care to. Also they watch games for pure entertainment not for strategy or techniques or anthing else.

I would put money down that 90% don't even know our story the last 5+ years, with multiple Championships and FBS upsets.

Will be a fun game to watch to see how we can handle that offense.

How is that different from every other P5 teams fans? Most don't know anything about teams outside the P5 and don't care to. Also they watch games for pure entertainment not for strategy or techniques or anthing else.

That is most fans of any program. Then you have Bisonville, where it is a different level. I forget what all the ducks have, but it is probably the pond or whatever other boards out there with hardcore fans who talk about football and college sports non-stop. There are guys from this board who have set up their DVRs to play Bison games in their home offices from when they wake up to when they go to sleep. We have Bison brothers and sisters who would subscribe to game tape services if they could. I have only watched a game more than once a couple of times in my life. I'll look for plays here and there, but my level of involvement is at probably the 88% percentile. I am guessing the norm for Bisonville is everyone here is in the top 10% with some in the insane top 2-3%. The regular fan who does not go to message boards and might be sitting next to you at the game makes up the rest. They are not necessarily uninformed, they are just there for the immediate gratification of the tailgating and game experience. A lot of those don't even watch the away games on TV between times you saw them last. Past those who actually frequent message boards, which sets people apart, average joe fan cares about their school or team only and sometimes only because someone they care about cares about the school or team.

Stanford and AZ beat them using a ground game and style similar to ours. They aren't unbeatable but if you don't play perfect the game can get completely out of hand in a matter of minutes. They are a scary team to face

Absolutely. Our offense is built to keep the ball away from their offense and wear down their defense. Our power running game works against anyone.

Oregons offense is all about Big Plays.
The Tampa 2 is all about preventing big plays. These big play teams don't always like to dink and dunk and get impatient. That's when deep balls are picked off, balls bounce off of hands across the middle or are overthrown into the safeties for a pick six

I say if we have a team along the same caliber as we've had we will compete. We would have to play a flawless game and have a little luck to win but it won't be a blowout. No way. I would put nothing past this team including an epic Kstate style win.

There's a lot of ifs and caveats with this statement, but I'm on the same page. Assuming both teams are playing a similar caliber of ball in 2020 as they have the past few years, I'd be surprised by a blow out. I still think NDSU would only have an outside shot to win, but any given saturday, man...

Fuck you, Mont. You're just a closet Husky fan...

Seriously, though. After Frisco last year, I went to Jerry's World and watched the UO/OSU game. That experience really woke up and sobered up a lot of Duck fans. Not only to their team's performance, but also their fandom, and their shitty band. I absolutely hate the Buckeyes but those dudes showed that they traveled well and can make a place their own home. It was certainly impressive. Almost any Duck fan that I talk to that was at the game speaks very humbly these days.

If we have a team, and especially defense, the caliber of 12,13 I wouldn't say anything is impossible. An awful lot can change in 5 years. One thing is for sure, this year and next years recruiting classes will be incredibly important.

I hope both schools are on the same arc they are on now. One thing the top ten schools have outside of the rest of the country is absolute deadly speed up and down the roster. Yes, crazy speed, but it is real crazy speed. The one thing NDSU has done better than anyone consistently outside the top 20 schools in the nation is recruit disciplined football players who know how to embrace a system and maximize their potential within that system. If both schools are in similar places they are today, it will be speed vs. technique. Keep their offense off the field, play smashmouth disciplined football, and a lot of good things can happen. Until then there is a lot of business to take care of.

Also, keep an eye on the Duck vs WY rematch. Wyoming playes them again I believe in 2017 and that may give us an indicator of sorts. Last years Wyoming blowout really didn't, NDSU would have been a considerably more competitive opponent last year than WY was. I'd expect WY to be playing an improved caliber of ball by 2017

Wow! I'm stoked we got a big name FBS game for the future! I gotta say, as excited as I am about this game, the match up worries me. Remember when Taiwan Jones destroyed our D? Try facing a team that is FILLED with that kind of athleticism. Or think back to when Oregon played Kansas State in the Fiesta bowl (2012?), it began with a sprint straight to the endzone for an Oregon TD and they never looked back. Don't get me wrong, I think NDSU can (and will) show up to play with pride, but it will be an extremely difficult game with all odds stacked against us. The other thing that worries me is how we love to rotate our players to keep them fresh. I'm not sure our guys will be able to do that if plays are being snapped within a few seconds of the last play. As tough as the game will be, I'm absolutely positive that regardless of the outcome, I will be as proud of the Herd as I've ever been. That's what makes being a Bison fan so great.

I don't want to look at thr box score because it's a repressed memory. OK I checked. He had 130 yards in the first 2 drives alone. (Both long runs) He finished with 230 yards and his last run was in the first drive of the 4th quarter. Take off his 2 longest runs and it's not quite as bad. It's like 100 yards on 18 carries. Still though the dude ran a 4.33 at the nfl combine on a bad ankle. Taiwan Jones ran one of thr fastest times in recent combine history, I doubt Oregon would have tons of guys THAT fast. They are obviously super fast though

K state might have been a lot better team that year. That fourth quarter drive was as demoralizing as it gets. They might have been questioning themselves the rest of the season. There are a lot of schools that go in the tank after playing the Bison, their's just happened the first week. It's the Bison effect and it's real.

Seriously, if the Bison are playing football in five years like they have the past few years, they will find a way to keep the game from getting too out of hand. Generally in football the better team wins but sometimes the perfect storm happens and the perfect game plan falls in place. They are a perennial top 10 team though and that does put them in a different stratosphere but the bottom line it is still 11 guys vs. 11 guys on the field with an oblong shaped ball that takes funny bounces. I have always thought the Bison could be competitive with anyone ranked 15 on out, so it will be interesting to see what the ground and pound style of Bison football will do against 15 on in. Lastly, a couple more high profile games will certainly help recruiting so we may not have seen the best Bison team yet.

Don't play stupid. You know damn well you guys aren't always respectful to your opponents. I just find this ironic how you guys hate not having some of BCS fans respect when you guys can't even respect some FCS teams.

This game is great for me, just a 7 hr. drive to Eugene. Just got back from there last weekend for my first trip into OR. Oregon is a gawd awful place imo, worse than driving across Nebraska. Should be a great game though, and a great atmosphere to watch a football game. The game might be a good recruiting tool for NDSU the next few years as well.

For your information, most of us don't respect any FCS teams. They have to earn it.

Likewise, I don't expect Duck fans to give us even a smidgen of respect. Relatively speaking, we are not in their stratosphere.

Well as long as this silly argument is already happening...NDSU has already earned the right to be respected across college football but they have not earned the right to be feared by a team like Oregon. Oregon has earned the right to be respected and feared by pretty much everyone. To some degree however, it has to be maintained each season. Now use your fan powers and go get the rabbits to earn a degree national respect by beating the Jayhawks.

We enjoyed our 19 years in Oregon and there are far more people moving up from California than the other way around. The Willamette valley is the main farming area as it's mostly flat so it's not the most scenic drive -- not much different than driving from Wahpeton to Grand Forks only there are hills off in the distance and a few volcanoes you can see on a clear day.

Farming is not their problem, it is one of the assets.

Like many others, I moved out of CA a few years ago, so I'm not here to throw in any plugs for CA either. The State of Oregon has a long history of being an "unwelcoming" state to anyone with an out-of-state license plate. I first learned of it 30 years ago, and I don't think it has changed any. The previous poster is emblematic of that attitude. Out-of-staters don't go into Oregon with a chip on their shoulder, they leave Oregon with a chip on their shoulder. I'm sure it varies from person to person, but the persona still exists.

In your earlier email, you indicated that you just completed your first visit. Above, you discuss 30 years of supposed knowledge. Clearly, you made your mind prior to your visit. I liken your experience to so many others that visit places like New York or Paris and complain about the people there. Fact is, if you go into it with a shitty attitude, you may well have that in response. If, like most people, you come here with respect and a great, fun disposition, you will have the time of your life.

Oregon has some of the most diverse scenic environments in the country. Like everywhere else, you are not going to see the good stuff from the freeway. Just drive Hwy 101 on the coast, or get off I-5 near Ashland and drive the Applegate Valley's wine country. Cross one of a dozem mountain passes over the Cascades. Raft a dozen different world class rivers. Ski world class terrain at Mt. Bachelor. Shit, ski in August. Go to a game at Autzen...where they love football and are great hosts unless you're a Husky, Trojan, or Beaver fan. Climb the most popular major mountain climbing peak in America and then visit a dozen breweries or distilleries that night. Sleep in a yurt at a state campground on the coast. Look down into an 8,000 foot deep canyon. Windsurf with a few hundred of your closest friends in the Columbia River Gorge. Visit an actual rain forest. Take in a half dozen play at the Shakespeare Festival. Go to a club and see ground breaking music any night of the week. Visit 75 named waterfalls with 40 miles of Portland.

And, yeah, smoke the weed legally.

Fact is, you don't really know shit about this place so you should keep your fucking thoughts to yourself. Focus on something that you actually know something about and please don't hesitate to take Oregon off of your future travel plans.

As for the rest of you, let me know what you want to see and I will gladly help you gain some knowledge. It is a great place and we will love to show it off to you.

So in actuality we didn't---""when we adjusted we contained him fairly easily"". Just wanted to clarify that.

I lived in Oregon for just over a year. I loved it. Lived in Canyon City and worked in John Day. They call that area the high desert. Hunting and fishing all over the place. When I was there they still had real cowboys there. Saw some cattle drives right through the middle of town. Spent a lot of time in Bend.

I didn't know that. Did you ever float the John Day and/or fish it? I have done it dozens of times. The canyon is wonderful if a bit dry. Lots to see geologically. One of my good friends and rafting buddies from MSP brought his girlfriend out here for a river trip and proposed to her on the top of the canyon.

I've been to 40 or 50 games at Autzen. It is pretty cool. The fans are crazy and there are no knitters. It reminds me of a larger Washington-Griz Stadium for those that were there. The other thing about Autzen is the game day lead-up. Take the Bison tailgate - which is pretty damn good in my personal direct comparison with many larger college programs such as Michigan, Washington, Michigan State, Ohio State - and multiply it by, let's say, 4 or 5. Tailgating often goes longer as well since the Ducks often play night games.

No I havent been to mile high...but with your location, I can see why youre being an advocate to have the game played there.

Im excited for Autzens atmosphere. you lose a lot of that moving into a huge NFL stadium

In regards to atmosphere, I will agree college football is a lot better than the NFL.

I've been to 40 or 50 games at Autzen. It is pretty cool. The fans are crazy and there are no knitters. It reminds me of a larger Washington-Griz Stadium for those that were there. And a large portion of their fans drive 100 miles from the Portland area and I'm sure some do some warming up on the way.

I'm guessing this guy has never met anyone from North Dakota.

“It’s been my experience that by extending the time doesn’t increase the amount of alcohol one person consumes,” he said.

Anybody's guess how many NDSU fans make it to this game? Let's assume plenty of tickets at a reasonable price are available........3,000 or less.......around 5,000.......7,000 plus? Will NDSU get an allotment of tickets and about how many? Should be lots of demand since it will be 4 years since last FBS game. Wife and I plan to make a vacation trip out of it.

I'm guessing total attendance might be around what it was at Iowa since we pretty low in the priority points world and still got tickets from NDSU's allotment. We are planning to attend and visit some friends in Oregon and maybe head down to California if we have enough vacation time for a longer trip.

I would expect the distance will reduce travel numbers by a third so should be about 5000 or so.

Anyone who wants to fly into Seattle and road trip down the road a few hours, let me know. Cool camping, climbing, hiking, paddling, sailing, biking, etc. options between here and there.

I'm definitely going and planning to take the whole fam damily!

I dont miss the FBS games. Will likely fly to Seattle and drive down, maybe make it a tues-sunday affair. Haven't been to either state. We met some Washington state alums randomly at an ndsu tailgate this last year and exchanged numbers...will see if they want to make the trek down to cheer on ndsu vs Oregon.

Eugene Oregon is 3 states away from ND and is still 8 hrs further than Dallas. Not making that drive

You all have to find a way to take in a game at the Nuthouse. It's an awesome football venue.

I'm planning on going. Not sure of my plans yet and it will be a long trip because we're moving from MN to NC next month. Let's plan on catching up one way or another.
