That pitcher doesn't give up hits. Playing the odds I would suppose. There was one out after that batter. Odds of them completing a bunt plus another hit are pretty slim. Probably was hoping for a hit to the gap or a dinger. I was more curious why they didn't call for that batter to bunt with two strikes. I know the result of not pulling it off but with no outs, I'd like those chances better than letting her swing. Let's hope the ladies get through tonight and Menke can get through their lineup the second time through with better results. That's been her tough time through most of these games. She sees the top half of a team for the second time and that's when she's had her struggles. Get passed them and it's pretty much smooth sailing.

Yes. It's a natural motion of the arm therefore much less wear and tear versus throwing overhand. Most teams have a workhorse/dominant pitcher and ride them as long as they will take them.

The underarm motion is not nearly as taxing on a pitching arm, so yes, it is not unusual in fast pitch softball.

A little amped up and a little more movement on the ball, a lot can happen. It could end up in someone's earhole, as well. That might not be so bad either. Scared batters make for not so effective ones.

Oregon softball coach Mike White noticed one thing in particular.

Menke, who entered the tournament with a 32-4 record and a Summit League record 362 strikeouts,
had a striking resemblance to Oregon's own ace Cheridan Hawkins.

A right-handed version, White said......


Without giving away too many details on his game-plan, Coach White had this to say.....



On the surface, the plan was simple. Expect Menke to pound the zone with meticulous control, and if she catches you chasing, it's all over. And for the first three innings, Menke was as advertised.....
