I know you cant read this, but its an Editorial written by Rob Port in the Minot Daily News today. This paper seldom allows non-subscribers from reading online, otherwise I'd show the link. Rob is bitching about some $$ diverted by the 2013 Legislature going to scholarships. I will respond to him online, but I am wondering if this editorial made the Forum papers?

He has zero credibility in regards to HE and everyone important knows it. If he wants to be taken seriously, he needs to get off the crusade and focus his efforts elsewhere for awhile. He has cried foul too many times that it's crystal clear he is targeting HE.

I understand he attended NDSU. I'm sure that influenced his decision to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence.

125 years ago whend the "mission statement " was put together, football didn't really exist. Besides football and sports in general is the marketing arm for college athletics. More students = more revenue. There is an obvious link to athletics and enrollment.
It's business.

Now I do agree with him that Dalrymple is a cheap sob and needs to fund maintenance of the Buildings but getting rid of athletics wi make the situation worse, not better

Rob Port Minot ND was arrested for drunk driving? No way

Rumor has it, he was kicked out of an unnamed restaurant for going back to the unlimited salad bar too many times. He was so upset that he called the owner a fraud and wrote a story on it on his sayanything.com blog. "Hey don't call it "all you can eat" if your not willing to make it unlimited." Al Carlson is drafting a bill requiring all you an eat salad bars come with terms and conditions. It's the law and it's called the fatty bill.

Why yes, Rob or Robert Duwayne Port of Minot, ND, the owner of some political blog did in fact plead guilty for Drove Or In Actual Physical Control Of Motor Vehicle on 12/06/2013, which many people would refer to as a DUI, DWI, driving drunk, or driving under the influence of drugs. Rob Port of Minot, ND also entered a guilty plea for Disregarded Traffic Control Device, which he committed at the same time as his DUI.

SO does anyone know the Rob Port White House Christmas ornament story? I would love to know what that was about. I heard he fabricated an incident to write a story and he got caught...is it true or just an urban legend?

It appears you're conflating two stories. Around five years back, the Obama White House sent out a bunch of old ornaments to community groups to refurbish and personalize. I guess they were sent back to the WH afterward and hung on the tree(100+ of them). Apparently they weren't inspected all that well, and a few odd ones snuck through. Like one with Obama's face superimposed on Mt Rushmore, and different one with Mao's face pasted on. Someone noticed later and the conservative news shows and bloggers like Porty-boy had a field day.

The other story that is more directly linked to our friend in Minot had to do with a tour he took of the WH. While in the WH library, he noticed a few old books with titles referring to communism, socialism, and the populist party. He snapped a photo of the bookshelf. He then asked the tour guide who was responsible for the library and was told the first lady(that wasn't exactly what he was told, but we'll get to that later). He then comes home and blogs that Michelle Obama is putting socialist and communist literature in the WH library.

The problem was that it wasn't true. The books were on the shelf, but everything else was wrong. The tour guide was talking about the last major renovation and restocking of the library which was overseen by First Lady Jackie Kennedy way back in the early sixties. (The library goes back to the 1850's.) Also, the books on the shelf were surrounded by books about democracy and American political parties. Most of the socialist books had titles like "The History of...". In other words, this was a shelf of the library dedicated to the history of political parties(all types) in the US. An actual news site checked out the copyrights of the books. The most recent was 1976. Most dated back to the fifties and early sixties. When Jackie restocked the library in the sixties, she asked a noted university professor to select a variety of books that would fit the purpose of a (political) library. A couple thousand books were added at that point. Administrations add to the library from time to time(I suspect most are unsolicited donations), but I doubt it's a big priority.

The major news services that ran with the original story blaming Michelle Obama printed retractions. Porty-boy posted a half-hearted reply trying to pin most of the blame on the tour guide.

why is rob port of the say anthing blog banned from a reservation

In 2007 The Turtle Mountain Chippewa Nation banned the boy genius for writing a column about the reservation that they viewed as insulting to them. Among other things the column is said to have called for the end to reservations and their "cradle to grave" entitlements. He reportedly went around the reservation for 15 hours knocking on doors annoying a large number of people who asked that something be done. The Chippewa quoted him as saying," I didn't write it thinking I am going to tick those people off." I am sure that his real motivation was to honor them with his insults.

I'm going to go a head and call bs on this one. If rob was on that rez knocking on doors for 15 hrs think he would be at the bottom of one of the many sloughs there. He more then likely sat at casino door and bugged people going in and out but I guarantee rob does not have the balls to go door to door on that rez for 15hrs. Sent from ladots parking lot.

So this is what has been reported......Rob Port of the Say Anything Blog.

Goes to Washington, takes a White house tour, spies a history book, jumps to conclusions and writes an inaccurate column.
Travels to the Chippewa Reservation, annoys the hell out of folks, gets banned, writes an inaccurate column based on what he thinks the Natives should think.
Writes about higher education issues in North Dakota, Paints ND HIED (especially sports) in a negative light and does not always report the full truth.

Ok, I am sensing a theme here. Rob Port of the Say Anything Blog seems willing to spin articles to meet his ideology no matter what the truth might be.

Conclusion....if you are looking for a fair and honest discussion do not look to Rob Port as he has a history of prematurely jumping to conclusions and is not above bending the truth to fit into his ideology.

So what does this say about those that look to him for debate and opinion? 1) they are misinformed. 2) they dont know about his history 3) they don't care 4) they agree with him. 5) they are morally and ethically equivalent. 6) 6) they are paying him to say things they are unwilling or politically unable to say.

He's a blogger. That's what they do. They type the first thing on their mind and hit post. If something comes out that proves them incorrect, they issue a half-hearted apology talking about how their medium is "in the moment" or vociferously defend it with the support of their sycophantic readership. Outside criticism is simply partisan jabbing and smear merchants.

Ya, uh using the term very loosely and not meant to imply that he has any credibility or legitimately at all. Actually I don't have much respect for the profession in general.

I simply do NOT click on his blog or his links, even when fellow BViller's post them here, (I do read the outtakes that have ben cut and pasted, thanks for that). The fewer clicks to his site, the better. I refuse to give him "legitimacy" by visiting his site any more than absolutely necessary. He is simply a Troll with a blog, like say M McF, Ed the dog killer or others who are Trolls with a microphone. Just my $.02

Yeah, every click to his (don't know if Scott Hennen still owns it or not) site puts money in his DQ grease stained pockets so I won't go there.

He is significantly lower on the credibility scale than someone like McFeely. At least McFeely says he is stating opinion on a lot of issues, whereas The Blob doesn't check his facts and tries to proclaim his sensational blogging as some sort of legitimate reporting. The opinion guys try to spark conversation on a topic, The Blob tries to create witch-hunts for causes his financial backers want.

If you need someone to testify about Port's accuracy in what he writes, you could always ask Dean Bresciani's wife.

And don't forget Jay Thomas on WDAY AM either for supporting the Portly One with guest spots and guest hosting his show.

Fixed it

-So this is what has been reported......Rob Port of the Say Anything Blog.

-Goes to Washington, takes a White House tour, spies a history book, jumps to conclusions and writes an inaccurate column.

-Travels to the Chippewa Reservation, annoys the hell out of folks, gets banned, writes an inaccurate column based on what he thinks the Natives should think.

-Writes about higher education issues in North Dakota, Paints ND HIED (especially sports) in a negative light and does not always report the full truth. For instance,

-Rob Port once made up the fact the wife of a University President was using state vehicles for person use.....problem is said President does not have a wife. Rob Port of the Say Anthony Blog simply made it all up to support his point .

Ok, I am sensing a theme here. Rob Port of the Say Anything Blog seems willing to spin articles to meet his ideology no matter what the truth might be.

Thought ....if you are looking for a fair and honest discussion do not look to Rob Port as he has a history of prematurely jumping to conclusions and is not above bending the truth to fit into his ideology.

So what does this say about those that look to him for debate and opinion? (Looking at you Berg 6:30 Point of view, Jay Thomas WDAY and the Minot Daily)
1) they are misinformed.
2) they dont know about his history
3) they don't care
4) they agree with him.
5) they are morally and ethically equivalent.
6) they are paying him to say things they are unwilling or politically unable to say.

How about a town where a couple Church leaders started a petition to keep "50 Shades of Grey" from being shown at the local theatre (it worked BTW)? Yeah, Port's message on most issues plays well in the rural areas and it's not because he's right. It's because of who it is aimed at. I wouldn't single out the farmers. Alright. I have to ask. Why do you think Izzo cares? I realize you don't live here but like him or not, he busts his butt over sports and sports only. With all his high school coverage and other universities, he probably spends less than 30% of his work time on the Bison. He also gets to fly on a private jet to all Bison away games. Away from work, it seems like most of his attention is on pro sports, big time college sports, his fiance, nerd movies and his dog. Also, if you talk to Dom, he is not an NDSU fan. Rather, he is a reporter covering the Bison. Meanwhile, while I don't read Port's columns, based on titles alone, I would say less than 5% of his "work" is on sports. And that is limited to "sports shouldn't be part of state funded institution".

I highly doubt Izzo cares.

Izzo was pissed about how he was treated druring the media debacle. He has his boss on the radio show to defend him and explain he did not know the details, and he posted a very emotional media blog post about the situation. He was shaken by that; that was clear to me. He busts his ass, does his job impeccably, and his company is hanging him out to dry. Then, his company potentially takes steps to even make it harder to do his job by doing something that would create even more ill will with the flagship part of his job, covering NDSU.

Like you said, his is not an NDSU fan. So why would he stay? He is a phenomenal talent, has done enough to get a major market job. FCC should be very thankful he got engaged.......

The VAST majority of NDSU fans have absolutely no idea who Port is. So, why would having him get a bigger role on WDAY impact Izzo? Port is a political blogger. He only talks NDSU when it involves politics.

Well, Port's goal of getting rid of Higher Education in North Dakota is obviously failing, so I guess he's going after one of the other things he despises: https://www.inforum.com/opinion/columns/977486-Port-The-quickest-way-to-reduce-DUI%E2%80%99s-in-North-Dakota-would-be-to-stop-enforcing-the-law

Genius, pure genius.
I think he failed to mention how he contributed to the data.

Yeah, I read that and scratched my head a bit.

"I don't like the results. I am going to propose an alternative theory that North Dakota is super good at catch drunk drivers because every other state is crime infested hell holes, but I have zero data that supports the idea."

I will give him a pass on the leading vs lagging metrics arguement as he probably doesn't have experience with that.

One hole in his theory is that we are not the safest state.... 19 states rank ahead of us ... so how does this correlate to duis

One DQ gets hit by a drunk driver and Rob's tune will change. Unless of course it's just Rob side swiping the drive thru. You'll have that in North Dakota.

Not even sure of his point? Is he for or against arresting DUI driver or no? That was a poorly written article even by ports standards.

This seems like a deliberate stirring of the pot considering his history to get clicks if you ask me so I guess in that case genius, he got one out of me.

Sent by my phone on a bullet train from Hillsboro.

What he is suggesting is similar to a city concerned about speeding, lowered the limit. No more speeding!

I'm not following his logic as its poorly written. I know in Montana when they imposed a highway speed limit, highway fatalities increased. Maybe that's what he was trying to suggest?

That should have been raised the limit!
