View Full Version : 2/12 @ Denver

Bison will travel to Denver to play the Pioneers on Thursday at 9pm CT. The game will be on Roots Sports. This is a big week for the men as they will face the toughest road trip in the SL going to Devner and SDSU this week. Got to find a way to split this week and it starts with a win at Denver!

Go Bison!

This might be the biggest game of the season, crucial to get the split this week. Beat Denver and we go into Frost playing with house money and the pressure will on SDSU to beat us. Of course a sweep means we can clinch at home.

What is with this split talk? How about one possession at a time? Tired of this tough to win on the road bs. Take care of business.

NDSU football in the FCS is almost like Kentucky is in basketball right now. Would Kentucky basketball fans be happy with a road split? Absolutely not. NDSU basketball is not like Kentucky basketball and never will be. Comparing the football and basketball programs at NDSU is apples to oranges. It's not fair to this basketball program that Coach Rich is leading in a very good direction. I have no problem with people being critical, but some need a reality check.

How many college basketball teams have went undefeated ?
19 just in fcs since 1978
Basketball teams in that same time frame ?
Nevermind timeframe 8 ever in college basketball

Ask Richman or any other Summit League coach and they will tell you a split on the raod is the goal, and a sweep is a bonus. Obviously they try and win every game but to think that winning on the road is easy is just a statement not based on fact. Look at the Summit League standings:

So teams have gone 72-27 at home and 30-75 on the road. So yes, winning on the road is hard. NDSU and SDSU haven't lost at home all year and NDSU has won 33 straight at home; so yes winning at home is easier.

Bison"FANatic"

Lets just take a look at the top teams according to AP

Kentucky 23-0
Virginia 21-1 lost at home to Duke
Gonzaga 24-1 lost on road
Duke 20-3 1 home loss 2 road losses
Wisconsin 21-2 1 home loss (to Duke) and 1 road loss
Villanova 21-2 2 road losses
Arizona 20-3 3 road losses
Kansas 19-4 1 home loss (to #1 Kentucky) 3 road losses
Louisville 19-4 2 home (Kentucky and Duke) 2 away losses

Out of the 20 losses only 6 of the losses have been at home, and Duke and Kentucky have accounted for 5 of those home losses given out. The other 14 losses have been on the road. Road wins are coveted and hard to come by.

So much for one game at a time, one possession at a time. If you go into the next two games thinking a split is ok you will have a hard time winning both. Just sayin.
Why put yourself in that mental state that losing any game is ok. Don't get it. There is a reason one game at a time is a cliche.

SDSU is 11-0 at home....Denver is 9-4 at home and two of those losses were close games to UNI(ranked) and Colorado State(21-4 on the season). They did lose to USD and Bryant at home so obviously they aren't unbeatable but they are certainly much tougher at home. That is a team we had to fight and scrap with to win at Scheels.

A split this week would be great in my opinion. Do I want the team to win them both, of course I do but if they split I will be happy.

Pretty sure no coach goes into any game wherever it's played with the mentality of a loss being ok. ALso pretty sure coaches know that throughout the course of conference play if they are splitting road games and winning home games there's a pretty good chance they will win the division or being in conetnion to until the last couple weeks which is all any team can ask for.

It's not that he wasn't good - they just didn't really win anything of importance with him in the NCC. I think for all the years he was here NDSU might not have more than 2 or 3 conference championships, and only 2 postseason victories. Did a hella great job marketing the program. He was getting 4,000+ people every night, and that was before the women's teams were great. My earliest memory of sports were those basketball games and loved every minute of them.

I totally agree with this. IF Brown can come back for the Summit league tournament I don't think any of my expectations change for the team. In fact, it would be pretty awesome for Ishola to get KB's spot in the rotation for the next 3 games so that he could be more useful in a tournament situation. But if he's really done, that's the team's best defender, gone.

Eagerly awaiting either the highlights or the audio replay to show up online to hear Scotty Miller's calls in this one.

Kory Brown is a big loss especially with how shallow the bench is for the Bison this year. He's probably the best defender in the Summit League and this Bison team has been winning with defense (with a few exceptions) all year long. Hopefully if he misses time he's back for the Summit League Tourney.

I'm not convinced that he doesn't play, yet. Richman made it sound like it might have been a contusion (deep bruise) from knocking knees. Anyone who has played basketball knows that feeling. It feels like you just want to have that leg cut off. It it really is just a contusion he could be able to Saturday, he could be out until the Summits. If it's a ligament issue, his season is probably over.

BisonNation11
02-13-2015, 02:57 PM
I'm of the mindset of resting KB on Saturday even if he says he can go. If he's medically ok and it's just a bruise, we're going to need him for more than just one game. Really hoping Miller can recoup enough energy from having the flu so he has some decent legs under him. His shooting can help put this team over the top. Also hope AJ can stay hot. If the Bison can win @ SDSU without KB, talk about a shot in the arm of confidence for this team. Rest the young man, run on adrenaline, and burry the bunnies!

Brown was down and really really in pain. I don't know for sure but it looked like alot more than just a contusion. He wasn't able to put any weight on it whatsoever. On a side note I really dislike the Bison's trainer. We had 3 players who were dinged up and had to come out during the course of the game and each one someone had to get the trainers attention for them.

Does anyone know why Werner does not finish games?

Carlin Dupree really has a good basketball build. My first game to see this year living in Denver, and he is long, long and rangy. Dude has to have a huge wingspan.

That was a fun game. LA's 3 pointer was launched from right in front of the NDSU section; that was clutch!

As soon as Olson put up the halfcourt shot, I said to myself "Oh, f***, that's gonna be close!"

Just glad we could hang on in OT.

Even got on TV for about a half second (in the background during the handshake line). Not exactly a Tatanka moment... :)

For defensive reasons, Kading's ability to switch on ball screens is much better then Dex. Richman has done a lot of offense for defense with those two if the game is close.

I'm going to take this as good news. If he had a torn knee ligament it probably wouldn't need to be "re-evaluated". It would be a torn knee ligament and his season would be over.

I have also wondered why Dex doesn't get more minutes period. There are stretches where Dexter won't play like the last 7 minutes of the game and all of overtime in the past even when we are struggling to score the ball. When he comes in he makes plays and he does alter more shots than Kading. I have wondered the same thing as Silk mentioned for a while now. Dexter's minutes are a 100 less than the other six, which to me is odd considering how well he is playing. Yes some is matchup, but he presents a similar matchup problem on the other end.

Dex plays a pretty physical game. Do you think they think he's a foul risk in those tight situations?

First off I love what Dex brings and his play on the court, I can also get on board with getting him more minutes but there is a reason Kading is on the floor towards the end more when we are winning. Kading is a much better defender at this point and its really not even close imo. Kading alters just as many or more shots then Dex and has the ability to switch on pretty much any screen. He really is a luxury to have on defense for us. Kading makes a lot of winning plays that go unnoticed imo. Now if were trailing and its late in the game I would expect Dex to be out there.

Also Denver is a tough match up for Dex to defend, unless their big guy is out there. Just my thoughts...

In all reality he tends to get very odd calls against him. Most of the time it's him just being his physical self, but he needs to learn to play within himself. There's a time and place to play that way and all of the time isn't it. Neither is putting your head down going to the basket or making a silly foul trying to block a shot or keep someone from getting to the basket. Tense moments usually mean players are playing with high adrenaline which isn't good for a guy that plays with a high motor anyway. He'll learn. He's young which is great for NDSU.
