Pathetic. Not much more you can say at the half. Shooting 29% isn't going to get it done. We can't make anything. Sometimes our D looks good and we force them into bad shots and other times it looks awful allowing uncontested layups. Need to get the ball down low. Got to come out fired up and with a different attitude. I hope Richman breaks a chair or something in the lockerroom!!

Great win by a resilient team. putting up 16 at half was embarrassing, but they woke up in the 2nd. In fact they only scored 2 less points in OT than the whole first half. Hopefully they don't play this poorly when we go into Frost. It will be ugly. I think we win the next three. The toughest one of the three will probably will be Western Ill. The road isn't good for this team. Just 2-6 overall. I really believe we will roll USD here. SDSU worries me in Brookings. I am having a hard time using the Bisonville talking points to convince myself that they will get a 'W' there. Heck, I don't know if we win in Denver either. Western is the only one, I feel, we get. Hopefully we run the table at home because road wins are going to come at a premium. Then the Summit tournament and that will be a dice roll!

First half was an ugly mess, glad we were able to find enough baskets to grind it out though. It wasn't pretty but all the wins count the same. Agree with Ajax...that game at WIU is huge, those games at SDSU and Denver will be tough. When I looked at the schedule before the game today, I thought we had to have this one tonight and the next one to stay in contention. If this team wants to take the next step, gotta win on the road.

Guessing it was Trey Miller,a redshirt freshman this year. Believe he spent most or all of break back home out west. Also dealt with an injury that has kept from attending some home games.

Just a weird offense I can't believe we are winning these games without any assisting or setting up guys. (Or set plays) I'd like to see Miller running some Felt sets (run him off 2 screens) or LA pull a Woodside with a high punishing screen set by Dexter. .. throw those 2 things out there and I am way more confident in this team dancing.

Crazy game last night. Good thing great D isn't streaky that kept us in the game. Lots and lots of motion and cuts by Denver. Coach said that their offense and defense is just about impossible to replicate by a scout team and with lots of young players it took them a bit to get used to it. Hopefully that is true as you can only use that excuse once. I guess we will find out in the next month.

Man do we need someone to get to be able to get to the rim and finish. Brown came out doing that and worked their D. We were so predictable with our passes and cuts they were literally jumping the pass as they new it was coming. We can't rely on LA hitting 3's from 5 feet behind the line. My oh My both in a good way and a bad way on LA. AJ drove a few times but Miller and him need to be a threat to drive and pop a 8 to 10 footer. Miller will fake the drive over and over and then pass it around the 3 line. Once again Dupree with some sick moves but unable to finish at the rim. God I hope he gets that figured out he will be DANGEROUS.
Dex didn't seem like dex, I suspect the knee is getting him wasn't rotating and seemed to be just a step slower and that was keeping him out of his normal great positioning.

Is the new person Kouroma, Maybe I just missed him earlier, looks like he is from Bismarck state college.

Great win. This is the kind of gritty, hard fought win that last years team would have accomplished. I am a little surprised that this year's young team was able to pull it off. I attribute it to a few things. Senior leadership. I know, LA is the only senior. But he is just something special. He has played more minutes as a Bison then any player in NDSU history. He owns the court, and has the ability to take over a game. I guess a career high scoring day with a tying 3 pointer in the NCAA tournament will give you a little confidence. Dexter Werner. This guy plays with a chip on his shoulder and I frickin' love it. He was dominant in high school but most schools didn't think he was a DI caliber player. All he does every night is work his ass off and seemingly pull down every rebound. Watching him yesterday crashing the glass, scrambling to save a ball from going out of bounce, and diving to the floor to get the ball; how could you not feed off that intensity. And finially, coaching. What Dave Richman has done is pretty amazing. I guess there is something in the water here because it's similar to what Klieman did this year. Most thought that this would be a rebuilding year with all players and scoring we lost. It would take a while for these freshman and sophmores to gel together; maybe even take a year or so. I don't think anyone would have predicted a 14-7 record with a 6-2 conference record at the end of January. The future is pretty bright but the present team has the opportunity to do some special things as well. This team is exciting to watch.

-Amazing stat: 21 home games in a row is amazing but this stat is better. Since the start of the '12-'13 season, NDSU's record is 63-24. Pretty incredible.

Mr Meaty
01-30-2015, 02:07 PM
I know shooters can be streaky and when they are cold they are cold but when they cooking watch out. Glad to see Paul Miller knock down a couple of big 3's late in the game after missing a few looks earlier. Also AJ was off as well but he stayed focused on defense and contributed on that end. This team is fun to watch how hard they work and work together. Lets finish the second half of the conference schedule on a roll and see where it takes us.

Pretty standard stuff for the 2014-2015 Bison. Complainers were given things to complain about, team won, not enough people came, I continued to be floored by what Coach Richman, his staff and his players are accomplishing. They ran some concepts on offense that I didn't particularly love against a zone defense last night, but eventually LA brought us back. You've gotta think that if we finish in the top 2 in the league he's got to be Summit POY.

Yes. Kouroma was in uniform and Trey Miller was on the bench in street clothes.

I've also noted that Richman has S&C coach Jason Miller on the bench this season. He was always in the stands in previous seasons. I think having him on the bench is appropriate given his contributions to the success of the program.

Not sure about always, but I've noticed the flat shot all year.

No lift from the legs? Lack of overall strength, leg injury earlier this season, conditioning, or all of the above?

Pretty standard stuff for the 2014-2015 Bison. Complainers were given things to complain about, team won, not enough people came, I continued to be floored by what Coach Richman, his staff and his players are accomplishing. They ran some concepts on offense that I didn't particularly love against a zone defense last night, but eventually LA brought us back. You've gotta think that if we finish in the top 2 in the league he's got to be Summit POY.

Cody Larson averages more assists per game than NDSU's PG POY candidate... just sayin'.

LA has a good chance of winning POY, and he would probably be more deserving than almost anybody else (I wouldn't complain), but I don't think he is a shoe-in with a second place finish.

LA just is a scoring guard and has never really been a pass first type guy. He is our go to player and takes half the shots.

On to another point, Kouroma has been with the team for several games now. Avg around 10 ppg for BSC. DU runs a princeton style offense, so not too suprised it was ugly for a bit.

I agree, and he is certainly a first-team all conference player. But at this point he isn't a shoe-in for POY as someone suggested. Maybe he will get it, but others - including Larson despite the Bisonville love - will be in the conversation. I would be shocked if Larson got it since he is a transfer and his numbers aren't ungodly. But he has been making other posts in the league look silly. Not to the level of a Keith Benson, but to be fair LA isn't at the level of scoring guard as say a Reggie Hamilton either.

If Cody Larson wins player of the year, nobody deserves it more. He has really earned it. THe NCAA did him a real favor in granting him the extra year after being a model citizen in his first stop.

Bison fans might find this interesting:

The Florida teammate that was involved with the Florida incident went on to start in 66 more games at Florida (he started 1 in the two years prior), and was an NBA draft pick. His dad starred at Boston College, and his family owned a second home beach house in the same city where the incident occurred.

The team manager that was involved that night joined Coach Pitino at FIU the next season. He is now on the men's basketball staff at Minnesota.

CL was granted a waiver to play 1 extra season of basketball at a small mid-major 45 minutes from his hometown.

So give him a good citizenship medal.
When you have a scholarship you are getting an education on someone else's dime.
Some kids on the other hand get an education with huge debt or don't get one at all.
This kind of stuff just tells me he is disrespectful and thinks his stuff doesn't stink.
Call me old fashion, but at least try to pretend you care by following the rules.

It's an individual award and he's the best player in the conference. I put that top 2 qualifier in here because conference POY shouldn't have to come from the team that wins be regular season league title but doesn't often come from a middling conference team.

LA plays 8 more mpg than Larson, aveages 4+ more ppg than Larson and is far more important to his teams success than Larson. Not to mention from a perspective of who actually votes on this he's a lot more likable than Larson. I think there's a wider margin between LA and the Brookings Baby than you think.

But you're right I'm sure those 0.2 APG are going to be the clincher.

I watched Larson up close here in Fargo and I was stunned that he was even at Florida. He didn't stand out in any way especially in the first half where he was not only non-existent, but he was almost the worst player on the floor. In the Second half he stepped it up but the best part of his game was his ability to flop and whine. I can't say he was special. I only saw that one game so Im not saying he's not good. Just nothing to write home about.

More likeable? You Bizon fans are a funny bunch. Can you please let me know what "likeable" has to do with the POY award. Heck, if it was about being likeable Braun wouldn't have been in the running last year. Guy has the personality of a cardboard box.

Well to be fair, he was sitting next to Saul Phillips during all those pressers, the most charismatic head coach in all of D1. You try outshining Saul when he's telling pig farming stories about Marshall, or stories about his vasectomy, or whatever routine he's doing that night. Lakes on his best day probably couldn't outshine Saul, lol.

I don't know about POY, but who else can it be but Richman for Coach of the Year? I can't remember what NDSU was picked to finish preseason, I think closer to the bottom than the top.

I would say Joe Krabbenhoft just bought Nagy another couple of years with his recruitment of Marshall. The SDSU team from the first half of the season (sans Marshall) was not good. They are now.
