Sheesh, is NDSU getting the short end of the stick from Minnesota?

I thought Iowa's $650k guarantee for Montana was about as good as it gets from the Big 10.

Well, check this out- Buckeye faithful don't get excited about YSU (http://www.vindy.com/content/sports/local_regional/323771402499391.php)

Youngstown State will receive $1.7 MILLION for two games at The Ohio State University. *:o :o :o :o :o :o

Iowa has 80,000 in attendance at all home games
Ohio State has 100,000 in attendance at all home games
Minnesota? Except for a Badger or Hawkeye game - about half of that.

That's why.

What school did Tressell coach at before Ohio State, oh yeh, Youngstown St. Sure that has nothing to do with the extra big payday.

Besides Tressell, who are some other former IAA head coaches who have success on the I-A level?

Chan Gailey, the Troy St. coach(when they were DII) when they beat the Bison, at least got to the NFL level with the Cowboys even though they weren't very good with him. He has a decent Georgia Tech team right now.

Didn't Lou Holtz coach a I-AA team back in the day?

Most DI head coaches are assistants at the IA level for many years. Not so many come up thru the IAA ranks.

Wow. The bar has been set even higher. :o

A game like that and NDSU could just buy new turf for the Fargodome themselves.

Youngstown State will open the 2007 and 2008 seasons at Ohio State and will receive $850,000 for its trouble. More I-AA opponents are likely on the way, subsidized by more than 100,000 ticket buyers at $58 apiece.

I'm glad Bison fans don't have to fork over $58 to watch their favorite team play!
Let's see, 100,000 fans X $58 = $5,800,000 take on the game. and that's just fans in their seats. That doesn't include advertising and broadcast revenue.
Ohio State can pay out $850,000 to Youngstown State and they're not much more than rounding off that $5 mil figure.

Guess the Bison might not get that kind of payday from OSU, though. The article says they like to keep the money instate.

I think Iowa probably had to pay Montana that much because they were in sort of a last minute bind. If memory serves me correct Missouri backed out of a two year deal with the Hawkeyes for games in '05 and '06. Iowa was forced to pick up Ball State last year which they won 56-0 and I believe Montana was the team they signed for '06. I know for a fact they were very unhappy with having to play Ball State for strengh of schedule reasons.

The bottom line is Minnesota CANNOT put butts in the seats to watch THEM play. *The other teams mentioned could be playing "The School of the Blind" and they'd be sold out. *I am sitting in the SECOND ROW in NDSU's end zone for the game in the Metrodome. *I paid the Gophers $64 for a family pack that includes 4 TICKETS, 4 HOT DOGS, and 4 POPS. *If a hot dog is worth $2.50 and a pop is worth $2.00 that means I payed $11.50 PER TICKET. *How much would I pay for 2nd row seats at the FARGO DOME to watch us play Concordia St. Paul?? *$20.00 per ticket??? *POINT MADE???????? :o

The Ohio State is only giving up about 14% of its stadium to pay that guarantee. *At NDSU with $12 tickets that 14% is about $32,000. *On a common size basis our CSP payout is very similar to the Ohio State payout. *

What I would be interested in is a list of what all the payouts are for I-AA teams playing I-A teams. I'm curious if payouts in general are going up, or if there are just a few schools getting big paychecks.

It would depend on the school who you are playing. Nebraska would pay more than Ball State for example. Is there public records on how much the payouts are?
