I noticed on the weather channel this morning that Dallas area is in a ice or freezing rain forecast.
Someone call the Mayor of Frisco and get the damn football field covered so we don't have to play in the pasture again after last years Nov.Ice Storm!!

We got to look out for our Herd! Always! Although last year the turf didn't seem to bother us..... just looks crappy.......

Let the Stampede begin.......

No way they let last years debacle happen again. Relax. The reason the field was bad is because last year after the freezing rain, it didn't melt and killed everything. They decided to resod. That was more than a month before the game last year. There is zero chance they resod the field 10 days before the game. The only reason that the Rose Bowl can resod the entire field a couple days ago is the quality of their sod is far superior and probably cost a million dollars to do it. I fully expect the grounds crew to be all over this and ensure the field is in prime condition.

Totally agreed. If they let that happen for the second year in a row it could jeopardize their contract and I can't imagine they want to lose this game. The city of Frisco sure seems to appreciate hosting this game especially when we are present.

they didn't change turf so root system should be pretty strong and should be okay.

As stated, they did not resod after the soccer season this year. Decided they could not take the chance of getting cold and not taking. Thus, the field is all rooted in (no loose chunks). It may not be as pretty a shade of green, but it will not be like last year. Seen a pic and the field looks damn nice.

The year before last, we were there the day prior and got to go down on the field and it was really lush, hope they have it back to that shape again this year. We certainly don't need a repeat of last year.

I don't know if that was an act. It looked like his legs got swept out from under him and he did land pretty hard. If it was an act it was Oscar worthy because I think he knocked the wind out of himself.

He definitely got laid out hard, but he embellished to sell it. Coach K said as much in the post game.

The reason the Rose Bowl can resod is not because of quality of sod. It never freezes in Pasadena, CA. For example, today is likely the coldest day Pasadena will get in 2015 - it was 34 degrees at the start of the Rose Parade. But it is supposed to warm up to about 60 degrees today, which is one of the coldest highs that Pasadena will have. Dallas (Frisco), on the other hand, can get temperatures to zero degrees, and have days that don't get above freezing.

It doesn't surprise me at all. Players and coaches have a rudimentary understanding of the rules, but on something like that they think it's a touchback when the ball hits the ground in the end zone. You'd be amazed at some of the questions or arguments we get during games.

That (underlined) comes off as very a supercilious position. Just because referees are out there to enforce the rules doesn't mean that the players and coaches possess only a "basic" understanding of the rules. Referees>coaches>players.....sure. But, I would never use "rudimentary" when describing a college football coach's knowledge of the rules.

I certainly know this rule, but I've noticed lately sometimes officials will go ahead and blow the whistle before a player does anything.....even if they catch the ball and are just standing there. Maybe that's why some players have started to think that the play is over if they catch it and don't run it out?

There was a strange play against the Gophers in the metrodome when Shamen Washington (I think) just tossed the ball aside but the official ruled that he "gave up on the play". I thought that was strange. Not sure why it wouldn't have been a live ball but the UNI one was?

The Shamen Washington play was an odd duck. Apparently if the player does not attempt to move the football forward/given up on the play then it is ruled as "downed" since it was in the endzone we ended up with it on the 20. I just about had a heart attack when he flipped it to the ref and the ref treated it like a hand grenade!

I hear you, but it certainly looked like the player in the UNI game "gave up on the play". He wasn't attempting to run it out. He jogged toward the back of the end zone and then was casually walking toward the ref a little forward.

This is another example where they could make it much easier with a simpler rule. Such as......if you down it, the play is over and if you don't down it, the play is still live. Problem solved and that wouldn't be confusing to anyone.

The UNI the receiver apparently thought he'd caught it in the field of play and took it into the endzone which is automatic touchback? Not that changes anything after the fact though. I think they'd changed some of the rules the year after Shamen's incident though to try to simplify it? If I recall correctly, as the next year it would have been an UNI type play seems to me that some people had commented on it.

But it is true. They know the basics and some dig a little deeper. Some are better than others. Add in the fact they are very biased and they will see the same play very differently. It's human nature.

In this example they know in past situations the ball touching in the end zone is a touchback. They don't recognize the difference in the two situations because they don't know the specific rules in play. We run into things like that all the time.

And I hope the special teams coaches all inform players that you can down a ball at the 1 and have your body in the endzone...just that no part of the ball can enter the endzone. Its not like the NFL where no part of your body can touch the goalline. Too often I see guys trying to tiptoe that line parallel and their upper body momentum carries them and the ball into the endzone.

Keeping the comment thread related...grass should be stout enough to dig your cleats in this year and slow your momentum!

I feel like I got baited on that first night when it was 60 something and I was in shorts and flip flips. Hasn't been like that since.

That night we walked to and back from then Third base, felt awesome. Next day I was almost regretting the shorts, at least until I loosened up:biggrin:

ISU has a golf outing planned for Friday. That should be nice and miserable.

If you want to swing the sticks while in TX, I highly recommend hitting up Top Golf in Allen. We did it the first two years and had a blast. Beer, good food and easy to look at waitresses all added to the experience. http://topgolf.com/us/allen/

Concur.

My concern would be w/ Texans and their ability to maintain the roads / drive in such mess.

This is correct. I have no worries about driving in that weather. I have extreme concern about the locals ability to drive in that weather.

Look on the bright side. In that kind of weather the locals will stay in. What does this mean? More beer for us. We can take over the town while the weak stay home!

I hope this is true and that they go through with it. First, golfing requires use of many muscle groups that are not normally used all that much, can be draining on the legs, and the cold weather will take some energy out of them. IMO, this would not be a good move even if it was nice out, but more power to them. I know our players bowled a few times when down there, but that is not the same as golfing.

I see ISU has a social planned at BJ's brewhouse Thursday night, home of Tatonka Stout one of their signature pours. There should be a nice big picture of a Bison to welcome them.

I think the golf is for the fans.

I'm sure the NCAA has bowling set up for the teams again, which we will lose to keep up tradition.

The players seriously are going to golf?

With this weather, could this be a typical Mvfc game where both teams struggle offensively? I'm having flash backs to WIU game.
