Isn't the pregame music chosen by the players as the music they want for warm-ups?

BisonNation11
12-10-2014, 10:17 PM
So the music that is played to probably help pump up the players on field is too loud for her? Ear plugs lady. The music is designed to energize the players and a majority of the fan base. Bring in your record player, hook up some head phones, and head bang to your polka. I wonder what she says to the people around her when we're on defense... I'm sure she's in the group that complained about allowing alcohol at tailgating because the people around her had "too much fun" while drinking. Deaf ears it shall fall on because we don't tend to cater to the few.

It does happen but not often. Usually when the band is playing a Lady Gaga song. "Applause" sounds like shit on a trombone

Everyone's entitled to an opinion. I just find it funny that she evidently feels that her opinion is the most important one. Because the only alternative to that would be that her complaint "fell upon deaf ears."

Exactly. It may not necessarily be that her complaint fell on deaf ears, it's just that for every person who wants to hear Lawrence Welk and see our dance team doing the Charleston, there are probably 50 that love it the way it is. I don't care "who has the money" honestly if they think they have the right to say what music (and what level it is played at) our players get pumped up to, they can stay home on Saturdays.

OK so nobody has ever complained before but since an old prude is complaining since they don't play Lawrence Welk shit, they are supposed to change it? Who the heck does she think she is? Please dont renew your tickets and let someone elsend buy them. In my opinion they need to make the music louder. Have a great day.

They said they had never had a complaint about the music before and they would relay it to the appropriate people. Apparently the appropriate people do not care, or my complaint fell on deaf ears. Oh, but wait ... maybe they did not hear me because the music was too loud."

I read the letter. Honestly, I've been complaining that the sound system sucks and you can hardly hear it. The lady was complaining that the "music"(if you can call it music she said) was too loud during the warm ups. I feel the sound system in the dome is awful, I can barely hear the announcer. When speaking of the moment of silence for Denny. I never heard it announced. I was fortunate enough to watch the Bison play at TCF and Snyder stadium. The sound and music was awesome and it did get the crowd fired up. My favorite though was before the start of 4th quarter at TCF when they played "Living on a Prayer" as the Goofs were down two scores. Classic. But it got the student section fired up while their team was getting smoked. TURN IT UP!!!!!!!

My initial reaction to reading her article was that (Cookie) is white and complaining about rap/hip hop music. Just my initial reaction. I don't even know what kind of music they play before the game as Ive never paid attention or been in that early. but being a coach I know that at high school games the warmup music is chosen by the kids.

Also..."relay it to the appropriate people" = Ignored. And for good reason. What about the other 18,999 that enjoy the atmosphere?

I remember the first time Gameday came here. We were in line at 3 am with a bunch of kids. There was budging, kids acting stupid, etc...and all kinds of nonsense. I started to get mad. Then I thought...If this kind of thing is bugging me, maybe Im too old to be in this line.

I understand her concerns, and she is entitled to her opinion. I'm sure my mom would hate the style and volume of the music during warmups too. Just because you don't like it, doesn't make you right. The type of pregame music and the volume of that music is not for your entertainment, it is for the players. They get into "game mode" with this type of music. Go to any other college football game of NFL game and it is the same. If you don't like it, don't go in and listen to it. I find it funny how she thinks that it should be changed because she doesn't like it, or that there are people who agree with her that don't speak up. Sorry, that's not how the world works. If I thought the popcorn served at the dome was too salty and went and complained to the dome staff, do I think anything would happen? NO! They would say thank you for your input and then forget about me. Even if she found 1,000 other people who agreed with her, I doubt anything would change. Sorry lady. If our football team; who sacrifices hours upon hours of practice, early mornings of lifting, summers working out, late nights studying to work around football, getting hurt and playing hurt for the team, and having unprecidented success for all they do; if they want to listen to their music loud before the game, they can because they have damn well earned it.

Just thought of something....Doesn't really have to do with the music but didn't want to start a whole new thread on it. Ever seen Taylor University's Silent night?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeClQGctZlE
Whole crowd is silent until Taylor U scores it's 10th point.

How about when they're offense takes the field, the crowd is silent until their first 3rd Down. Think about it. 19,000 people, dead silence, then announcer says "and that brings up 3rd down for the (chinnuts) Chanticleers" Then the crowd just explodes.
Logistially, could it be done?.....probably not. But just thinking about the Chants on offense, wondering WTF is going on? Then, BOOM!

When I get home later I will.

Something to this effect.

Apparently this lady doesnt understand the mentality of "The HERD".

Pregame festivities are to entertain, but as some have said, its to pump up the crowd, most of whom love being part of "The HERD" mentality.

Those who want it quieter for themselves, so they can relax, visit or even pray, thats fine...understand that this is about "The Herd", not for any fans convenience.

I will not judge this lady or anyone else, but what matters once you get inside the Dome for a Football game, is that its about the football game. No matter how you acquired your ticket. TeamMakers have no more say as to what should go on in the pregame or at anytime, no moreso than anyone else.

Similar to church, it doesnt matter how you get into the building, rich folks, poor folks, those pure of heart and the rest of us sinners are all the same, and its exactly the same for a FB game in the Dome. Its ALL about "The HERD".

So this lady needs a little nudging from the rest of us with our horns to get her to realize how "The HERD" works. We wont kick her outa "The HERD"...just give her a lil-horn until she gets the message!

Being that she GETS to sit INSIDE the Dome this saturday for the game, she should just STFU and realize not all of us Herd-members get to??

as she kindly said...

I respect her right to feel like she does. And it was a well written letter. Something that is rare in the Forum.
But it just rubbed me the wrong way of her (and not only her) sense of entitlement. ' I told them to turn it down and they should have said yes madam we will do it right now'. I haven't seen 50 for a while now, I'm a TM, and a season ticket holder. I have made suggestions to the powers that be. It didn't happen. Might ask again, might not, but I not crying in the paper about it. First World Problems.
The offer to trade her tickets for my symphony tickets still stand. I'll throw in next years opera too. But they do sing loud.

I've written several drafts in response to the letter, but I can't find the words to not come off as an arrogant, young punk looking out for the best of the team and fans as a whole. Perhaps because her letter is so out of left field and selfish... Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I agree they should be, but to expect something to actually happen in a situation like this has me lost. Who is she to put herself above the person playing the music, the Fargodome and NDSU staff that program and script the game, the players, and most of all, the fans??? And to expect something to happen immediately? In a place full of 20,000 people, her wants should be put above everyone else's??? Perhaps I should write a letter saying the Fargodome is too dry and I'd like to enjoy an adult beverage so it helps "loosen me up" so I can socialize with the people around me. I don't care if the campus is a dry campus, I want a beer! It's too dry! Sorry Fanette, I'm at a loss for words to respond to this mess of a letter. I'll put in for 50/50 and if I win I'll give you a portion towards signs in the future or something. Heaven forbid she does something to help with the problem herself such as talking in the concourse or wearing ear plugs. It helps, I used to work in a factory. I just can't believe how the world has turned from being responsible for individual actions/wants/needs/problems to making an individual's problems everyone else's.

If I wrote a letter, it would focus on what we like about game day, an encouragement on how fans could be more engaged, and what could be done to improve game day. This makes you/us looking for the greater good (while sending a subtle message to the letter writer without putting her down directly).

While playing FB and BB for a Christian college I will say that I have gone through the pregame warm up with some interesting extremes of music. That being said...warm ups are for the players on the field to get prepared for the game. There is a period where the music stops and the band starts. You can always put on a few extra layers and stay out talking to your 'old' friends. Or just not come until closer to kickoff.

Oh and stretching and getting ready for a FB game to church hymns with piano and organ really didn't put me into the proper mood to play. Thankfully we found headphones next time we played there.

Considering Cookie's love for Lil Jon, I have a question. How have we not had a sound byte for Littlejohn and Schaetz every time they make a big play? Every time CLJ makes a big play, you play Lil Jon's famous "Yeeeeaaaah!" Every time Schaetz makes a big play, you play "shots shots shots...." and the crowd goes, "EVERYBODY!" It would be awesome!

Pregame music is a weird situation with no great solution(other than $$$). If you assume the purpose of the music during pregame is for the benefit of the players doing warmups, then it has to be music they want and it must be loud enough down on the field to do its job. But if you've never been down on the middle of the field, you might not know how quiet it is down there in regards to the loudspeakers. Virtually all the speakers are pointed to the stands. So to get it loud enough on the field to be useful for warmups, they have to crank the f*** out of the volume. Probably the best solution would be to install speakers at field level pointed inward, but the tight confines of the FD field make that difficult. There's just no great place for them to go.

If the purpose of the pregame music is for the crowd, then the players would be basically warming up in silence down on the field.

No great solution.

This sounds silly…. But the battery and Bluetooth tech on some of these basic CHEAP speakers…

Should open up SOME options for where speakers could be placed, and wirelessly connected.

Not like it’s a problem to solve or anything.

Please ignore this post. Likely crazy.

Maintain current strategy for fear of screwing something up.

Let’s not be “too” American and simply say “it’s dumb” before thinking about it.

Problem solver.

Personally I would love some background music/game noise/ and Phil getting pissed at the team with some bitch announcer in my ears.
