Have you ever questioned his heart? Never!
Every North Dakota kid that runs out of that tunnel seems to leave it all on the field.

Travis has done so much & literally has left it all on the field.
What an absolute dude! Epitomizes Bison football!

Literally? I think not.

But figuratively, your point is valid. The kid is a stud. Hope he recovers as quickly and fully as possible.

Hoe many times last year did he go down with his shoulder popping out of place for him to only put it back in and then play the next down?! This kid gave so much heart. He will be missed and was a great Bison.

I don't know what to say. And maybe that is fitting.

I mean, how does one truly describe Travis Beck and what he has meant to this program. Here is a small-town North Dakota kid that, for whatever reason you can care to mention (and there are MANY reasons), they all seem to pale in comparison when you pare it all away to this basic truth - "he fit Bison Football, and all that Bison Football stands for, TO A TEE". Could there be a better legacy than that.

Thanks for everything Travis! It's "next man up". I'm sure YOU wouldn't see it any other way.

One of his many assets was his speed. A few years ago (I guess 3 years ago) in the Dome against SD State, in a crucial situation, SD State was going for a 1st down on 3rd and six or so. The QB kept the ball and tried to run the left side. Looked like he was going to make it fairly easily, but Beck just ate him up with his speed, stopped the play on the sideline a yard or two short of the first down.

My favorite Bison ever. Best linebacker in the country at this level and never even got the recognition of making an all conference team. So versatile. Wr screens simply don't work against Ndsu because 52 blows them all up. Wish him a speedy recovery.

My stomach dropped when I heard about his injury. He's a great kid and the main reason I try to watch ndsu when they're on TV. It will be a lot easier to cheer against ndsu without him playing but he deserves a better way to end his brilliant underrated career. It's a damn shame.

Kid has great instincts, plays without fear and attacks the offense 100%. Pretty much the prototype of a player that NDSU wants on defense.

I concur with 1998braves64 above, would like to see him on the field in the playoffs, and hopefully, the National Championship game like Grant did last year, even if it is just for a play. He earned his right to end his career better.

Exactly. With a ruptured Achilles he will have surgery relatively quickly - probably early next week. Grant was able to get the swelling down, rehab for several weeks and play with a custom brace. He then got his knee reconstruction post season. No way they any surgeon or athletic trainer in their right mind allows him to risk damaging the repair for even one play.

There's a reason why I said, "even if it is is just for a play." Something that can be done when the game is wrapped up and he doesn't have to do anything. After that, then he can walk off the field to a crowd applause like the Seniors did last year during the Championship Game.

My point was more that yes Grant played a play or two last year in somewhat meaningful situations, but when he went out there with all the seniors in the 4th quarter he didn't even play a play. Bohl called a timeout before the Towson snapped the ball to let all the seniors come off the field to an ovation.

I know he'll never play a down of football again for NDSU.

Travis was/is a source of pride for all the nay-sayers that said if NDSU goes D1 small town ND kids will never play again for the Bison.... not only did he play, he was the MVP of the first FCS championship and a MAJOR contributor in every game he's ever played in. Sad to see him sidelined, but much like GO I think he can lead from the sideline just as well as the field. Kid is a stud. Period.

The Bison, and the Defense in particular, are going to be jacked up to march through these playoffs for their fallen comrade.....just like for Grant Olson last year.

This defense wants to prove (once again) that they are the best AND THE DEEPEST in the country, and that no one person is ever more valuable than the team. While this all sucks for Travis, of course, the cool thing is that he is the absolute epitome of TEAM defense. Case in point, the kid's been an absolute stud for 4 straight years and still hasn't been recognized with an all-conference nod (did get honorable mention in 2012, however)!

Bottom line, history is about to be made in these playoffs. And Beck's amazing contributions to this historic run can never be taken away and will never be forgotten.

That was indeed a big play as well, but nothing IMHO comes close to Beck's interception. We were waiting for that one big play to happen and boom, there it was. Crowd was hopping like mad in the seats! One of the most exciting plays I've witnessed, considering what was at stake.

For a player who has shown such unbelievable toughness, it is a rather poetic turn of circumstance that an injury to his achilles is what finally ends his career.

The "one big play" we were waiting for in my opinion was the fake punt. Next play DJ takes it to the house and we have the lead IIRC. Travis' pick was with little time left and as he was running that thing back, the entire stadium and all of Bison nation knew we were going to be National Champions. That's why we were hopping like mad in our seats. Great play by a great player. Too bad to see it end like this for him, but I think our D continues to do what it's had to do in the past before. My thoughts: Losing TB is a big loss. His speed, instincts, will-to-win cannot be replaced. When opposing coaches say they need to "play fast" we should think Travis Beck! He. Played. Fast! Big loss!

Will our D be ok? Sure! But not Travis Beck like.

From a former OLB, Major, major respect. Travis Beck was and is a better OLB than me, and a first ballot HOF player if I have any say!

I've already said before TB is my favorite Bison of all time. Even with that in mind, it is next man up. Like it wasn't difficult enough before coming up with ways to attack the defense, now teams have little clue what we will do with 2/3rds of the LB corp looking different.

We have so many versatile guys. I think for a few game stretch, even someone like Heagle could move into a LB slot, if he had to and still have some wood laying around for the safety position. I want Beck in there, but DeLuca just sounds like a name ready to hurt someone. If these guys don't step up, they'll wish Chuck Norris was in the sideline and not TB. It is nice having a team more scared of the sideline than the opponent.

I think the D continues to do what it does because that's how our defense is designed. Besides Kyle having a Buchanan type season this year, it seems we have a lot of talent and individuals that make up a great defense every year, and they work so well together and trust the system. Everyone understands their role and I don't think they're expected to stand out amongst the other 10 guys on the defense. I understand along with everyone else that Travis is irreplacable, but I still don't think we see a substantial dropoff. On a side note and I'm not trying to drift, but the reason it bugs me when people pick on Esley so much, is that he does his job within the system of our defense. I don't think the expectations from the staff are for him to lead the team in tackles, make int's, etc. His job is to make a tackle when it's his job to make a tackle.

CAS4127
11-26-2014, 02:29 AM
You are correct on ET. The good thing is we have players who make tackles when it's not their job, like KE, CL, CH, CD and TB before losing him.

I'd like to go back and re watch games just to focus on Beck, we really missed watching him.

It'd be pretty sweet to have a highlight reel for each of the seniors. Maybe they already do that?? But I'd love to watch 4 years of Travis Beck highlighted into 5 minutes. They could start with a player intro, a bit of high school video and follow up with their Bison all star plays. Mix in a bit of gameday etc...and they'd have something pretty awesome!

I'd like to see more highlights, hot seat, video intro, on every player. The more the fans get to know the players and/or connect with them, the more avid the fans will be.

TB has always been one of my favorite young men to play football at NDSU. If his body could have held up to his mentality, I do think he could of made a nice career being a special teams player in the NFL and the occasional back up at LBer. He was ruthless on the field.
