View Full Version : Opponents NDSU Hasn't Played in a Long Time.

I was recently looking through the all-time records of NDSU against different opponents. There are a few teams that I think it would be neat to play again. Many of those teams, NDSU has never beat, but would now have a chance. Here's a few I thought of.

Army: NDSU lost big in 1932.

Jacksonville State: 0-2 record, last game played in 1989. Might get a chance in the playoffs this year.

Texas Tech: The only game played ended in a tie in 1934.

I got my info here: http://www.bisonville.com/fanguide/opponents/opps000039.html

What other historic series would be interesting to re-start?

Since the beginning of the 1964 season (i.e. in the last 50 years), NDSU has played 105 teams.

There is only one team of those 105 that has a winning series record against NDSU (series = at least two games) and that's Jacksonville State. So that's the team I most want NDSU to beat. Eastern Washington is second.

The eight teams with 1-0 records against NDSU since the beginning of the 1964 season are: Wyoming, Troy State, Eastern Washington, Texas State, Texas Arlington, San Diego State, and Grand Valley State. Lots of memorable games there.

1995. I got a guy on my trivia team who's a big Pitt State fan, he's glad NDSU went up and "left them alone".

I'd like to play Troy, the team that beat us in the 1984 Palm Bowl, if they weren't 0-5 so far this year.
We haven't played Tulsa since 1941.

I just realized that 1894 was our 1st undefeated season! That was one long season, too.

1894--Henry L. Bolley (2-0)
@North Dakota W, 24-6
North Dakota W, 20-4

I think all of those are winnable games, though not all are gimmes.

Need to even up the records against Idaho and Drake as well. Having a losing record against those two is embarrassing, even if it was 80 years ago or so when the games were played.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_American_football

In 1894, a touchdown was worth 4 points, a field goal was worth 5, a PAT kick and safety were both worth 2.

There are a lot of strange scores in the historical record.

The fan guide link on the home page here is pretty useful. Back in the old days of BV, something along those lines was the homepage with the forum being a link off that page.

Well if my memory serves me right...they won that game in 95. It was thanksgiving weekend. I covered it for the spectrum.

I watched the University of Jamestown and Valley City State University State game on Saturday. VCSU has way more speed. In fact, they have a freshman, I think #6 from Florida, small, very quick receiver. No one could keep up with him on the other team. He was a lot of fun to watch. What were we talking about, anyway?

I know, right? Drifts. Speaking of, one of my high school classmates is now president of VCSU. Makes me feel very un-accomplished.

Did you play in that game, CAS? I can't remember off top of head which years you actually played. I am pretty sure you overlapped with Mark Hansen, but I can't remember which years he played either, and I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

If I remember right he was on sidelines as a red shirt? But maybe I should let the man himself answer. Then he would've had four rings to flash at tailgating!

Army would be fun...the new head coach is the Jeff Monken, the former head coach of Georgia Southern...As an independent, they have some challenges scheduling games, but they did lose to Yale over the weekend.

Yes, I was dressed and on the sideline ready to go in if need be, and it got close. Would have been a terrible way to lose my redshirt, but, then again, maybe I make a big play on Troy's last drive to prevent them from getting into field goal range. I woulda sacrificed a year of play for another Natty!!!
