I think IPFW is way to high in both of these preseason polls. They wont be near as good as they were this past season. They lost a lot of key players including there head coach and Steve Forbes won't come out of nowhere.

My expectations are pretty low for this season, and I would love to be surprised. I think we're really going to miss Marshall Bjorklund. Could we win the Summit? Yes. Could we win an NCAA tournament game? No.

How low?

I still think we finish in the top half of the summit with another shot at an NCAA berth. As far as winning a tourney game, its all about matchups. If we get the right matchup we could pull another win out.

NDSU should automatically start in the top four of any preseason poll ... too many resources, too many advantages and too much success to not be in the top four.

We lost 6-7, 6-7, 6-8 ,6-9 with talent to go with that height...we didn't come close to replacing any of that. Middle of the pack is my guess.

Guard play is huge at our level, and we have the best pg in the league in my opinion. There will be some growing pains and some kids are going to need to step up but I see no reason why we cant compete at a high level in the SL

Basketball is our marque sport now, time for the chatter to begin on the season.
LA needs to be woodside style scoring a ton.
Dupree needs to slash and hit the 3 ball
Kory brown needs lights out D AND ATTACK THE BOARDS.

after that is question marks.

Kading needs to act tall down low.
Dexter needs to be the HAMMER use all 5 fouls each game
Jacobson can you play d1.
Can Evan jake or miller step in and play.

This team has talent, they will be young in spots but I love that we have a senior leader running the show in LA. This team will get better and will grow from what is a tough non-conference schedule. Lots to be excited about!

I think we're being underestimated. I'm not saying we should be league favorites, but you can go a long way in mid-major basketball with good guard play. With LA, Kory and Carlin Dupree we should have the best guard play in the Summit.

exactly, im ready for a 3 guard offense and start pushing the tempo. why not? Basketball will generate the most exposure/attention for NDSU thats already been proven with the NCAA win last year, time to capitilize on that momentum and push for a 2nd straight ncaa bid!

I agree with this, KB started to score a little more towards the end of last season but he wasn't asked to because of the talent we had on the floor. This year he'll step up and be more aggressive on offense. LA will most likely up his PPG a little bit and I think Jacobson can step right in and get double digits per game. Dupree is the wild card, he has shown flashes of brilliance and is very explosive but also inconsistent with turnovers. Hopefully he's worked on that this offseason and also worked on knocking down the 3. I think along with ORU we will be the most athletic team in the conference so still plenty to be excited about!

I am anxious to see Jacobsen play. We need 10 & 5 from the guy. Also I think pople have Dex wrong. He won't be a 5 foul guy, he'll get you 8-10 point and 9 boards with plenty of O Boards. He will be a big surprise to our fans with more skill vs. brawn.

I see the line as: Starter/Backup

LA/Show
DuPree/Miller
Brown/Jacobsen
Dex/Vanden
Kading/Wesen

Scoring needs to come from:
LA 15
Kading 10
Brown 10
Dex 8
Jacobsen10
Dupree 10
Miller 6

after woody left the next year NDSU failed to capitilize on their NCAA tourney run and crapped the bed... I dont want a REPEAT!

Carlin needs an outside shot
Kading/Dexter/Evan need to show us something down low.

This is the first time I can say that I have no clue who will win the league. It is completely wide open, lots of new coaches and of course a ORU odds another new variable to the mix.

If I had to pick it would be Denver, best player and their coach should have a better idea of how to win in the Summit. Wildcard though is ORU, not sure what happened to them in the SLC but I can never discount Sutton. Great coach and he knows how to win in this league.

NDSU, SDSU, IPFW, USD and Omaha would be my next tier all of have new parts. Kind of hard to get a feel for them until I see them play a few games.

IUPUI and WIU are still a year or two away in my estimation. I think both hired well though.

I wonder how WIU will play this season. Will they speed up their game a bit and play more up-tempo since coach mo moved on or will they stay with the 40ppg style? Covington is a special player and defiantly has the best shot at being the next NBA drafted player to come from the Summit, but his supporting cast is not that great. Remember a couple years back when Nate put up 53 (17-28 ; 9-14 from 3) at IPFW? SDSU only won by 6 points and the 2013 SDSU supporting cast was a lot better than WIU has this year. Covington would have to have that sort of game and more to pull of an upset during the tournament imo. Possible but not probable.

It really just depends what Richman decides to go with for a lineup, it's possible he could start AJ at the 4 spot in a lineup with LA, Dupree, Brown, AJ and Kading but if he decides to keep more of a post player along with Kading in the starting lineup like Dex or Wesenberg he could start at the 3 spot and Dupree would be first off the bench or AJ could be the 6th man. It'll be very interesting to see how it all plays out but the coaching staff is very high on him so he will definitely be highly involved.

I've been complaining about this for years, there's been days where there's a home game and there isn't even an article or section letting local fans know. Makes it a little tough for the casual fans to decide to go to a game if they don't even know one is going on. After our run last year I was hoping for improved coverage this year, so far I'm not impressed.

bisonfan08

I'm not so sure it was a want as much as it was a need. If he would redshirt we'd be down to 8 scholarship players and a walk-on, with him playing we have 9 scholarship players and a walk-on. We need him for depth, if someone gets in foul trouble early or God forbid we have an injury even if it's just for the game we need him available. With both Ishola and Trey Miller having knee surgery and Eliason just not ready physically he's the guy that last spot falls to.

For bigs that leaves the 6' 8" Kading, 6' 7" Wesenberg and 6' 6" Werner.
So if one of the 3 is out for a while with an injury, does that mean they pull the redshirt on the 6' 9" Eliason?
Or does AJ at 6' 6" play some PF in a real small line-up?

AJ starts at the 4 spot and will see a lot of time there, he'll get most of the minutes at the 4 with Dex subbing in at both the 4 and 5 and Wesenberg getting a few minutes a game at the 4. Barring foul trouble, for the most part I think we'll see a primary 7 man rotation with our starters and Paul Miller and Dex off the bench. Wesenberg and Showalter will see limited time as needed, especially at the beginning of the season as true freshman. As the season goes along and they get more acclimated to the system and the level of play I think they will start to see the floor a little more. Based on the way Richman talked about this team it's his goal to have everyone healthy and up to speed by time we start conference play. Seems like this first month or so is going to be spent getting everyone settled in which is why we can't have real high expectations for the OOC part of the schedule. If we get through our first 11 games at 6-5 I'd be more than happy but 5-6, 4-7 wouldn't surprise me with so much youth playing a lot of minutes.
