No no, that's what we do when NDSU goes FBS and gets to a bowl game - buy out the naming rights.

Well then............... how about 196M, and the cash option would be 116M!!? Surely we can "roof-it" for that!

(I'm going to lose the tickets in my pickup, & find them later... that's what winners do!)

Was in the "Peg" yesterday and have begun preliminary work on moving the new 33,000 seat (expandable to 40k) Blue Bomber stadium to Fargo. I've only got a Sears garden tractor, two log chains, and a pair of needle nosed pliers.........progress reports to follow weekly.

And all teammakers WILL have season tickets! With 225Million and a 134Million cash option... we can do this!

Totally disagree, look at how much fun people have had in this thread dreaming what could be done with the money. We all know we are not going to win but I have spent $4 a whole heck of a lot more frivolously. Undue the tie and take the stick out of the back side, crack a smile and have a little fun, maybe even spend a few dollars on something that is totally worthless. It's a lot of fun.

If you suddenly hear that a new softball stadium is coming and the BBF is getting renovated(again), then it means I won the PB. It will also mean Dacotah will be carefully dismantled, the new section thrown out, and the rest of the stadium rebuilt 20-ish yards to the west.

Thanks for sharing. It's fun to watch the probability of these things. The ticket holder will most likely come from one of the states with a high population, but every once in awhile there's a jackpot won in an outlier such as in Winner, SD a long time ago.

We have the same chance as everybody else, although it would be a statistical anomaly if it came from ND. Go Bison!

The Lottery is terrible. You're far better off in a casino. It's a travesty that the government is running the crookedest game of chance in town while simultaneously using moralistic arguments to restrict the expansion of legal gambling.

Send your $1 or $5 or $10 or $20 straight to NDSU. Don't waste it on a lottery ticket.

I have a neighbor who is a mechanical engineer. A while agohe stopped by with his daughter and we were shooting the sh_t. I asked him if he bought his Powerball ticket yet (300M pot).
He gave me the high & mighty.................."the lottery is a tax on people who can't figure odds".....................then his wife comes walking up and tells her husband.........."I stopped at the store and got some Powerball tickets. I got 5 instead of 1"

Send your $1 or $5 or $10 or $20 straight to NDSU. Don't waste it on a lottery ticket.

But dreaming is fun. As long as you only spend what you can afford to lose. I spend less on the lottery then most people who gamble at the casino.

This really is no different than the 50/50 raffle that NDSU profits off of. I would guess that NDSU profited about 175K during the football season just off the 50/50 raffle.

Of course, if you're playing for entertainment and within your means. Have at it, just recognize that you're making the worst legal bet allowed by law and that no private operation offering such a game would ever be able to get a license to operate it.

If a person were really going to use their mythical winnings to make a substantial down payment on a new football stadium, both they and the athletic department would be better off if they just gave the money straight to NDSU.

It is different than the 50/50 raffle because when you play that the athletic department benefits guaranteed, but when you don't win the lottery (and you won't) they get nothing.

I'm going to guess Offutt or Burgum

Was trying to insinuate the business itself and not Sanford the person. I would assume they would since other businesses qualify for points.

Stanford University mathematician Keith Devlin offered this: "Imagine a standard NFL football field. Somewhere in the field, a student has placed a single, small, common variety of ant that she has marked with a spot of yellow paint. In the old system you could calculate your new tank with a theoretical donation. The last time I played with it, back in '12 or '13, I think $1.6 million to teammakers put you at number 1 in priority points so I don't think those large donations are put in the same category as us peons.

Going to be a crazy drawing... 1.3-1.5 billion dollars guessing it will be revised up in the coming days, somehow get a single winner could almost become the first billionaire off a lottery drawing.

Pretty sure by tomorrow it will be in the $1.7B range. Cash payout will be just over $1b if somehow one person wins, then you'd probably end up at around $800 million in take home money, but still technically a Billionaire income wise. What are the odds of number combination being drawn that hasn't been bought?? Have to think the odds of that happening on this last one were pretty slim but probably not quite as slim as ours for winning...

The difference is the government isn't manufacturing the cigarettes.

If MGM came to the relevant government agency, described the lottery and asked for permission to operate that game, they'd get laughed out of the room and smeared in the media.

On cigarettes the government says they're bad for your neighbors health, they're bad for your health, they're addictive, and they burden individuals and society with preventable disease, and as a result we've collectively agreed to regulate and tax them.

On gambling the government says it's addictive and the social costs of problem gambling including but not limited to increased crime, debt, bankruptcy, work and health related issues are large, and as a result we've collectively agreed to regulate and tax gambling. But, somehow, we've also decided that it's just peachy for the government to reserve for itself the single most lopsided game of chance in the country.

Mega ball hit it.

Never actually had numbers that close to the actual numbers.

So just like the ad right? A number that's not yours, another number that's not yours, another number that's not yours, ok here's a number that's yours but you don't get anything for it, and finally another number that's not yours. :biggrin:

So I filled up with gas on Monday and bought a couple dollars of the Mega Millions for 260 Million prize. My numbers are never ever even in the ballpark but it is fun to think about what I would do with the money.

So I looked today

1st number off by 2
2nd number off by 4
3rd number off by 1
4th number off by 1
5th number off by 1
Mega ball hit it.

Never actually had numbers that close to the actual numbers.

In other words, you lost.

I bought 10 tickets on Monday, but only won $4. I guess I just wasn't, myself. I didn't play MY game. I ran out of time.

For a ticket that was not a winner, yours was the best ticket of the non winners and clearly should've been a winner. And you deserved to win even though you picked the wrong numbers. But I'm sure it lit a fire under you to pick your numbers better so it's not left up to someone else to tell you that you are a winner. But you probably just suck at picking numbers and there is no way you'll ever be a winner.

Won $2. However, can't win if you don't play.

The odds of the random number generator for the quick pick spitting out 4 of the 5 numbers the same are equal to the odds of your ticket matching 4 of the 5 winning numbers or about 1 in 7,304 according to the mn lottery website.

I always wondered why the clerks always ask "Same ticket?" when you get more than one. I know the odds say that...but It happens more often than you think. Ive never got 4 the same before but Ive had 2 a lot and 3 a few times. seems to happen more often than it should for a random number.

In my consumer math class we talk about the math behind winning the lottery (especially the powerball) and even after showing the math they normally say that it can't be that hard. So I make a deal with them that if they even get 5 numbers right on the next powerball they will get an automatic A for the semester. Closest I've ever had was a few kids getting 3 numbers correct.

That's because the way our pattern imposing brains understand randomness and the way it actually works aren't the same.

This is LONG overdue!
THE JACKPOT FOR BOTH THE ND POWERBALL & THE MEGAMILLION is just WAITING FOR ME!!!
I feel very good about this! Within a few short days, an announcement will be made, and you will be hearing about the NEW BISON FOOTBALL FACILITY!
The BISONdome ~ !!!
Fanette's Football Arena ~ !!!
:facepalm2: (OMGosh, I'm beginning to sound like Loafy...)

What do we need? A mere 400 Million for the BisonDome? The Powerball can make that happen.... and the 1.6 Billion Mega will build a couple!
We could have computerized SIGNS - that change every 30 seconds!!! Awesome!

Probably so! I'm so glad that you are RE-investing!
If we had $604 Million dollars, we could buy every number and get a minimum of $989 Million cash payout.
Taxes will take a huge chunk, so we may be in trouble if there was a second winning ticket.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~
Just think... if you won the 1.6 Billion... you could give out 1600 prizes of $1 Million each!
(Ok.... I didn't subtract taxes BUT it's probably going to be over 1.6 Billion anyway.)
