not too shabby.

What does the number mean, and how do other QBs stand in comparison?

The college QB rating is different that the NFL's. *I think the most you can have in the NFL is 158.3. *Top QB's in college have years around 170 or so... *Walker is currently #10 in D1-AA (160.15). *(R. Santos of New Hampshire 183.93)

In NCAA Division I-A, the career record for passing efficiency is held by Ryan Dinwiddie of Boise State, who had a career mark of 168.9 between 2000 and 2003. The single-season record belongs to Shaun King of Tulane, who amassed a passer rating of 183.3 over the 1998 season, while the freshman record belongs to Michael Vick of Virginia Tech, whose rating during the 1999 season was 180.4.[2].

compare that to the preseason GWFC first team QB:

50. Jon Grant, UC Davis 81 141 1044 57.4 7.4 6 5 2 126.59

Other Great West QB's
31. Wes Marshall, S Utah 76 129 917 58.9 7.1 11 6 7 137.47
58. Matt Brennan, Cal Poly 42 88 645 47.7 7.3 6 4 4 122.71
102. Andy Kardoes, S Dakota St 59 121 634 48.8 5.2 3 3 9 96.00

I think this year's WR's are making a big difference for Walker.

I understand a higher rating means you're playing very well but how do you actually figure the rating? Is there a mathmatical formula?

Steve Walker has shown since he was a freshman that he makes plays to win games. He has had that ability since he started playing at NDSU and I'm sure he had it in Illinois in High School since his numbers were great there too. I'm glad he is our QB and I'm glad he will be the QB again next season.

Here is the formula. *

((Yards x 8.4) + (330 x TD) - (200 x INT) + (100 x comp) )/Attempts.

The highest available rating is 1261.6. *(1 attempt for 99 yards & touchdown)

Phil talked about it on the broadcast on Sunday thanks to a question from kchats. The basis of what he said was that quarterbacks at the next level need to make reads as fast as possible, and his potential at the next level would be determined a great deal on that. He didnt comment specifically on Steve's potential at the next level. At least that is what I took from what Phil said.
