Yep..don't think I've heard that before. I was worried Fargo might have a sophomore slump hosting Gameday....but it was anything but! Very entertaining watching here from home. Still so cool to see good 'ol State U. and Fargo getting that kind of national exposure. Who would have believed it?! I can tell you that down here in Oklahoma, North Dakota State is now a very well-known commodity.

This is a little late, but I wanted to hear people's opinions about the following:

There's a guy named Justin Conzemius who goes by the nickname of "Fargo Flash" and is apparently a former Fargo South Bruin turned Gopher football player that has weekly segment on the Power Trip on KFAN to talk about Gopher Football and college football around the country. He rarely makes any mention of the Bison, but this last Thursday, he commented for a minute about GameDay coming back to Fargo in a way that really confused me. (I can provide an audio link if anyone cares to hear his words first-hand). What he said was that it's a really boring week for college football, and that there's a guy at ESPN by the name of Ed Erhardt who is "the head of the network" and "a Fargo guy" who was responsible for bringing "his College Gameday" to Fargo last year and back again this year.

This bothers me for several reasons:

1. I had never heard of Ed Erhardt and always thought that Lee Fitting was in charge of GameDay and was the one ultimately responsible for them coming here.
2. This sounded like a backhanded compliment (i.e. Congrats on getting GameDay two years in a row, but it's only because the head of the network is from Fargo and wanted to use his power to showcase his hometown, not because you earned it.)
3. I got curious and looked up Ed Erhardt on the Interweb, and yes, he works for ESPN, but his title is President of Global Marketing and Sales. http://espnmediazone.com/us/bios/erhardt_ed/ Probably a very important guy, but from what I could gather, he has nothing to do with the production or decision making for College GameDay (or any show for that matter). ESPN has like a couple dozen Presidents of This, Presidents of That, etc. So he could hardly be considered "The Head of the Network" (The guy with the title "President of ESPN" is named John Skipper.)
4. I couldn't find anything (on the Interweb) that connected Erhardt to Fargo. He went to college at St. John's University in NYC and that's all I could find.

Am I making a big deal out of nothing? Has anyone heard of this guy and know something I don't? Did Fargo Flash just blatantly lie about the circumstances of GameDay coming to Fargo because he's a butthurt former Gopher player jealous of the Bison's success overshadowing his alma mater?

I heard the same interview and was annoyed as well. You found the same information on Erhardt as I did, he was a native of Fargo and graduated from Shanley in 1975.

So there is a Fargo connection, I don't know (personally doubt) how much influence a sales and marketing guy has on Gameday. I think its just another made up thing by Conzemius whose credibility is non-existent. He predicted the Gophers would start this year 9-0, said this years Eastern Illinois (now 0-3) is NDSU caliber, and said Chuck Klosterman went to his high school (Fargo South: Klosterman is from SE North Dakota). The Klosterman tidbit isn't football related but shows how much Conzemius talks out of his ass.

I heard the same comment from the Fargo Flash as well. Yeah it did bother me a little and didn't jive with what Lee Fitting s said at all. But the Fargo Flash's job is to sell maroon and gold Kool aid so he is going to rah rah for the gophers. And honestly they need it down here.

First off Fargo flash is a gopher homer through and through. For the record I think his prediction for gopher record is 8-4 (this he stated on his first of the year segment). He felt if they got lucky they could possibly go 9-0. Every week though he predicts a gopher win. If they play some good the gophers squeak one out. If they are bad then gophers win big.

In regards to EIU he said that last year it was a team on par with NDSU teams we've seen which I was kind of like meh!!

Just like people who have ins with a company and get a good job because they happened to know the right people. Fargo still had to perform and they did.

From what I recall Justin Conzemius has ties to NDSU in that his dad played for NDSU? Did I dream that up? Pretty sure he mentioned it when NDSU played Minnesota the 2nd time.

I haven't read through the whole thread yet, so apologies if this has already been mentioned, but the band that was playing from a patio above downtown was Helena Handbasket, which is made up of several former (I think they are all former by now, but maybe some are still current) students at NDSU, from my days in the marching/concert/Jazz bands.

Sometimes an in gets you an opportunity that you otherwise wouldn't of had nothing wrong with that... We still needed to perform well and we did and that made decision to come back way easier no doubt. Again we performed and they left it open-ended to possibly coming back again.

My opinion Fargo flash is very involved in gopher football that is his domain. He is a homer through and through. But he has given NDSU short props on big game wins, always complimentary after beating Minnesota. When he states that Minnesota should beat teams like NDSU he is saying it in a way that he is more upset that Minnesota football has fallen to level where FCS teams can and do beat them and a big 10 team with the resources it has should not lose rarely to FCS teams.

He is the type though that believes FBS teams should not play FCS so he is a bit elitist imo. I take everything he says with a grain of salt.

I'm of the opinion that we already have another Incarnate 'Word type team on the schedule for next year......... UnoD........After watching both teams play (Unod vs RMU) and the game Saturday with UIW, I don't think there would be a favorite in the game (UnoD vs Incarnate Word......one of those "pick'em type games). They both suck.

The butthurt in the Twin Cities was very strong this weekend. I was out watching my son at practice wearing my Bison gear. Some guy came up to me and ask me "how much did NDSU have to pay to get GameDay to come again?" Then he went on about the story that you told. He walked away before I could say anything.

Lest's see gap tooth challenge UND about getting serious about change and when he does let see some callers call in with these suggestions. Me thinks the whole issue dies quickly then
