I agree with this. I'm waiting for more commentary before I jump in all homery on AGS but I think with the total domination of ISU and another ridiculous Madden game by EWU, as soon as they meet a defense, they are toast.

Craig Haley also had this to say about the rankings (process) for The Sports Network:

- One of the great questions of the preseason was whether Eastern Washington's veteran squad deserved to be ranked No. 1 over North Dakota State, which entered the season on a 24-game roll and coming off a third straight national title but had to replace 12 starters, 24 seniors and its head coach. The voters in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 did just that, giving EWU 82 first- place votes over NDSU's 62. But it's apparent the composed Bison, who blasted Iowa State, should be ranked No. 1 until they are beaten.

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfoot2/writers/infcshuddle/archive/haley_8_31_2014.htm

Also:

- North Dakota State's Chris Klieman had to share the nod for the most impressive win of the weekend by a new head coach. Central Connecticut State. coming off a 4-8 season, won at 2013 FCS national runner-up Towson, 31-27, in Pete Rossomando's debut.

And also:

On this opening weekend of the 2014 college football season, the gap was evident. FCS teams were humbled by the FBS, winning only two of the 46 meetings between the two levels of Division I football.

Enjoy the ride Bison fans!!!

Rev's a pretty level headed guy. That's why I didn't want to get into it right away. There are way too many people impressed with EWU but what happened when their tank ran out of gas last year?

I think you could make the case that EWU did enough to keep the #1 spot, especially if you voted them #1 to start the season. They beat a top 15 team by 20 and blew out either a D2 or NAIA. What kind of ISU team did we beat?? Let's hope they have a recovery somewhat close to KSU last year.

We beat an ISU team that had a distinct advantage in many areas.

To me what happened was a correction. Usually the NC would get the #1 spot in the preseason but too many were put off by the loss of starters and coaches. It looks to me that we are back to where we all were last year. Remember when EWU played that high scoring game at Oregon State? Turns out as soon as they get someone to play D, they aren't quite as good.

since 2011, how many weeks has NDSU been #1?

its gotta be like 32/37 or something. They shoulda been at or near #1 after the Minnesota win. then 1 or 2 weeks after the YSU/ISUb hiccups

2011 was tricky because GSU and Sam Houston were both up there for a long time. NDSU didn't take the top spot until near the end of the season. Solid #2 but not #1 for most of it. In 2012 they were out for 3 weeks after the ISUb loss and then wire to wire in 2013.

This is the AGS poll, widely considered the most accurate.

NDSU should be at the top of every poll until someone beats them. 3 Time Defending Champs. Also in North Dakota Bison fans should be considered the champs until someone else in North Dakota beats them. The who fans should have to hold doors open for Bison fans and yield the right away.

Looks like I got completely outhomered on AGS by our resident UNI fan......

My top 4 didn't change from the preseason

1. UNI
2. EWU
3. NDSU
4. SLU

Though I thought long and hard about swapping EWU and NDSU....and I see my first place UNI vote doesn't count - thanks Ursus...or Obama...either one

I am not completely discounting last season but I'm focusing on going forward. NDSU proved a lot to me over the weekend but while others have said there are other FCS teams that "could" have done the same I 100% UNI and EWU WOULD have done the same. If UNI and NDSU swapped opponents I'd bet the results would have been similar as they turned out. EWU likely scores more points but I'm not sure they hold Iowa State under 35.... I'm long on record as saying Iowa State is a **** program and likely would be lucky to crack the top 20-25 in the FCS.

In my eyes what UNI showed me on Saturday was/is more impressive than what EWU or NDSU has shown me this season, especially based on expectations. I have UNI to win the MVFC and based on what I saw I stand by that. Why would I rank a team higher in a national poll vs another team than I do in the conference poll at this point?

The more I think about it the more I'd put NDSU ahead of EWU. While EWU has the best offense in the FCS they have a bottom 1/3 defense. NDSU and UNI both have top 1/3 offenses and 1/3 defenses. Statistically speaking I like both over EWU.

UNI likely is my #1 next week too unless EWU or NDSU plays ungodly well and some big injury reports come out of Cedar Falls.

Flame away if you want, I don't really give a damn.
