I thought it might be nice to have a single location to post all of the cool media articles and forum conversations that are happening since the ISU victory.

I don't know about you, but many of these articles seem to have a different feel to them than previous years. In the past, many of the articles and radio shows seemed to have a "way to go little fella" feel to them. This year seems way more respectful and people aren't simply dismissing us.

My submission is below. It is a segment on the Chris Plank Show on Fox Sports Radio. I caught it last night on the way back to Bismarck last night. They are talking about the new 4 team playoff and how strength of schedule will be very important then NDSU is brought up. Warning! Some will love this...some will hate this ;)

Starts at about 19 minutes in:

This is a transcript from a highlight show on Saturday a few hours after the end of our game.

If you're an athletic director at an FBS school and your football team currently has a game scheduled against North Dakota State, cancel it. Cancel it as quickly as you can using any excuse you can think of. Tell them you have a wedding to go to that day, or that your grandma died, just do not play that game.

It's really not. Beating ISU is a novelty, but everyone will forget about it by Wednesday. The story is how pathetic ISU is, not how great South Dakooter is. For God's sake, you're playing some school called "Incarnate Word". It's tough to take that seriously.

You are so delusional that you are kinda cute. We Bison fans have seen an explosion in national media articles and respect and popularity amongst college football fans. Lots of people nationally now know us and like us and they arent forgetting about us. Bison national noteriety grows every year. When the Hawkeyes beat ISU nobody gives a rip because they should. When NDSU does it, national media follows it because it shouldn't happen yet does...regularly. Eat your poor little heart out

When your an FCS school you don't get press like we've gotten. Coming from a solid Big 10 school like Iowa it's tough to understand. Really we've had to shake a lot of perception issues being located in Fargo. Certainly ESPN Gameday did wonders but we're definitely not a household name outside of the midwest. So far us this is a big deal

Look, I get how this works. Shit, Iowa State fans sounded just like you guys a few weeks ago. You're a curiosity. People love an underdog, but they forget about them just as quickly.

However, since you guys live in a bubble where you magnify every thing about the program by 1000, you seem to believe that everyone is talking about you, since you scourer the internet looking for it, repeat it, and discuss it non-stop. Once everyone in the country moves on, you're still hung up on it. I see fan bases do this shit all the time.

So don't give me this delusional shit. I like NDSU, but I'm probably the most impartial person here. The rest of you can't see the herd for the bison.

The number of people that don't forget about us grows annually. You are delusional. Eat your heart out

Good post.

However, Iowa fans are also pretty sensitive when it comes to press too. We're one of the smallest fish in the B1G pond, and there is always a butthurt fan complaining about BTN giving all the attention to OSU and Michigan.

The reality is if we want to move up to the FBS we always hear we would bring no value since we're a small market and not a household name. A sad reality is we rarely beat teams like Iowa State, Kansas, or even Minnesota for recruits because kids perceive them as being so much better. That's OK because I've said all along that ndsu takes zero star players and develops then into 3 star athletes.

So any discussion like this we are very very happy about. People are taking us seriously and may even know who we are

Our win at the big dance probably had more impact on the school than beating Iowa State but we're a football school

NDSU was one of four teams mentioned in the first question of the Final Verdict show on ESPNU.......Most impressive win? NDSU was argued by one of the guys, but of course in national voting NDSU did not get the nod. North Dakota and South Dakota were the only states with majority selecting NDSU.

All this success and media attention is great for NDSU and the community. However, the drawback is going to be that nobody in the Big Five is going to place us except the top 10 teams in the country. Unless you are a top 10 team, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO GAIN by playing NDSU and everything to lose by playing them. (Let's not drink the Kool Aid, we cannot beat a legit top 10 team) We are going to have to settle for playing MWC, MAC, or Sunbelt teams as "our big game."

Five out of five games? I'm right there with you. But one game out of ten if the stars align just so? I certainly think there were top ten teams last year that last year's Bison would have had a legitimate shot at.

Florida State, Alabama, Oregon, Michigan State? Probably not last year.

Ohio State, LSU, Louisville, South Carolina (all of whom were in the AP, USA Today, or Sagarin Top 10 at some point last season)? I guarantee you that last year's team would not have been afraid to take the field with any of them. And I don't think it's farfetched at all to think they could have pulled out a victory.

Time will tell if that level of confidence and success can continue through this season and beyond.

http://clonesconfidential.com/2014/08/30/north-dakota-state-vs-iowa-state-football-instant-delayed-reaction/

"Perhaps just getting an easy win to open the season can give this team a morale boost instead of getting thoroughly tested. Digging through the FCS library and picking out North Dakota State to play is like trying to read Moby Dick after it’s been translated to Japanese and then back to English. Why go through torture when a Berenstain Bears chapter book is available instead."

Taking a page from lakes, but here I go.

Why couldn't we be an FBS team? If, let's just say if, we were able to secure funding from the state to build an FBS worthy stadium, why is Fargo any less attracting than Manhattan Kansas or Ames Iowa? Manahattan is about 2 hours away from the nearest major media center, Kansas City. Ames is about 2 hours from Minneapolis and 3.5 from Kansas City. Fargo is 3 hours from Minneapolis.

Pullman Washington is also about an hour away from Spokane and 2 hours from the Tri-cities in the middle of nowhere. Oregon and Oregon State are also not in a major metro area although Portland is about an hour from Corvallis and 90 minutes from Eugene. Out of those three teams, the only one that is usually good has uncle Phil Knight to pay most of the freight so maybe they aren't good examples. :(

From the article:
Everyone knows about "The Drive", but a lot of people have forgotten about the four third down conversions NDSU needed and how they had to play perfectly to finish the drive. What was going through your head in those last few minutes?

Mostly vodka, because it was the only way I could cope.

'Seriously, just an endless stream of WTFs, combined with an unfettered sense of doom. It was the same sort of thing we saw in 2011 when the defense just couldn't get stops on third down, and everytime they had third and long all one could think was "how will they get THIS one?"' (Emphasis added)

I'm just getting all fired up about our season opener this week against Kansas State. Non-conference games are just exhibitions that don't count in the standings. I was standing just a little behind Tatanka in this photo. The curse of staying to the end and sitting near the field is having to watch the opponents celebrate.

Never forget what?

I'm just getting all fired up about our season opener this week against Kansas State. Non-conference games are just exhibitions that don't count in the standings. We didn't even play some of our best guys last week. Did you see Bundrage, Farniok, Bibbs, or Cotton-Moya out there? I looked for them all game and they weren't there. Not sure what all the excitement was about by all the drivers of those green buses. Must be Packer fans.

:innocent:

Unfortunately we do have Packer fans...such an ugly mole on an otherwise knockout face

Just remember the rule.. If you lose to NDSU you are horrible.

UMass, the prototype for failure is there, and Georgia Southern is on the waiting list. I'd say that's further proof that one needs to be careful what you wish for. Those who want FBS so bad might do well to study that list.

We are better than Georgia Southern and UMass so what is your point?

I really feel Georgia Southern will do better in FBS than App St, Georgia St, Idaho, New Mexico St just because they do actually have a history. I know App St does but it was 3 yrs. maybe im totally wrong but I dont care, either way I wanted Appy and GSu to stay in FCS also ODU they would have been god for FCS

My point is, just because you go FBS doesn't mean you'll succeed. We won't get even 1% of the publicity we are getting now if we move up.

1980 makes a good point here. ESPN loves us for a lot of reasons, but foremost of those reasons is probably because we are an FCS program playing like a mid level FBS program. If we move up, we are just a mid-level FBS program playing exactly like we should be playing. No story there.

http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/k-stated/article1439180.htmlInteresting article. Guess we played a slouch team last Saturday...but Kansas State won't be playing a slouch team. Iowa State will be great.
