Love the physicality of play by this kid. Keeps on blocking thru til the whistle. Watch from 18 to 24 seconds into his video, knocks over his guy and then two others that fall like a bunch of bowling pins.
For O-lineman bench press is overrated as leg strength, quickness and footwork are most important along with a mean attitude. Doesn't hurt to have big numbers on the bench, but that isn't everything. I believe Billy Turner only did 24 reps at 225lbs during combine. 30 reps for lineman going into the NFL is quite common. Heck, up until a few years ago I could do 20 reps bench press at 225lb.

Ha ha, I see what you did there!Seriously though, I am way more interested in the numbers for the snatch, clean & jerk, and clean of our recruits and current players over the bench and squat. Bench & squat don't translate as well to the athleticism required on the field...they are obviously not completely useless, but are ancillary exercises when compared to the Olympic lifts. You mentioned "leg strength, quickness, and footwork" in a prior post -- there is a strong correlation of developing that by focusing on the Oly lifts. Olympic lifters have ridiculous explosiveness, agility, and quickness.

Coach Klieman gave IMO, high praise to redshirting freshman Zack Johnson today on the Sunday morning tv show. Something to the effect of
"He has Billy Turner/Joe Haeg type athleticism on the offensive line".
And that Johnson would make a quick impact once he acclimates to the system.

One to watch for in the future.

Interest in the team has been going down and it is directly related to the fact that they refuse to sign NDSU players. This is going to hurt ticket sales and probably result in team relocating.

This makes me wonder why some of our current offensive lineman not named Radunz would not play their senior season. Zack Johnson has more upside than any of the current o lineman and he played for 4 years and still got cut. I hope Zack gets a shot at the practice squad. Guard is still a new position for him

Upside was a poor choice of words. I meant NFL ready. Its obvious Radunz is NFL ready. All American. Preseason All American. 32 games of film. Left tackle is the primo position.

Zack Johnson was a 4 year starter, All American and played 2 positions. Tons of film. Will possibly make the practice squad.

Not enough film, experience or accolades for Volson or Schoening.

Those pre season or all American awards draw attention to them. Those usually come with a senior season when people start paying close attention and you have that incredible senior year. They get you invited to the NFL Combine or All Star / Bowl games. The 2019 All American list all had guys who signed or will sign NFL Contracts.

Gotta remember even Joe Haeg and Billy Turner weren't super high picks and they had ridiculous resumes.
