#1 candidate was over qualified & declined my phone interview.

Here's #2 in el chapo's installment

Rocko DeLuca

Current job: Associate athletic director, University of Massachusetts

In the three years he has been at UMass, he has spearheaded fundraising efforts. In 2011, he started a $33 million fundraising campaign and the goal had been met. Prior to going to UMass, he was an assistant AD at Colorado. While at CU, he played a key role in several fund-raising ventures, including securing a seven-figure gift that helped pay for the practice facility at Coors Events Center. The Greeley native and CU graduate also worked for the Denver Broncos from 1999-2002.

In his first six months of the 2012 fiscal year, donations to the Athletic Department were up 140% with over 600 new members joining the Minutemen Club. DeLuca's oversight of a 114% increase in football specific gifts and a $500,000 major gift exemplifies the solid base of support for UMass's transition to FBS football.

Was involved in UMASS move to FBS & Would enjoy taking NDSU that route.

If you really want us to move FBS then you should stop now with this one because you are completely killing all credibility that you might have had dangling by threads. Seriously this thread has to be a joke right? You want to copy the least successful program in FBS history?

So 3 attacks no discussion.

ADs affect fundraising, coaching quality in all sports and thus, by extension, recruiting and performance on the field...things UMass has not exactly excelled with. Would you really be happy with being FBS if it meant being a UMass type bottom feeder? I wouldn't. I want to spend my day off taking in a quality product. Go find us an AD candidate that can fundraise and has an eye for talent. Any AD that will settle for a stadium debacle such as what UMass has gone through isn't worth much imo.

Let's hear some of your candidates I'll hang up & listen.
I'm giving you a young man who wants to come back west & can raise money. He wasn't the #1 and UMass admin is to blame for recent failures not this guy. He's a selling machine 100 dolla bills y'all

Finding candidates is your baby not mine. No one that matters cares about our forum opinions anyways. I'm just saying that if you are going to find someone and convince Bison fans, then find someone with all around success including after the move up.

Did I miss something here? I thought NDSU had a search committee and had decided to hire someone.
Or did they decide to let someone else

I have no problem discussing who might get the job, but calling people is creepy.

Here's the scenario. The Bison hire Deluca and he uses the proven template from UMass. Move our home stadium to the new Vikings Stadium. I mean, it's only an hour farther than Gillette Stadium is from Amherst plus FBS BABY!

Damn. Those are the credentials one athletic dept should be looking at to expand onward and upward. great suggestion Chapo, as usual, and amazing job to keep us up to date if you find anyone else that is worth the hire.

Guys like Rocko are guys that Dean Brescani NEEDS to be contacting. If its a old guy hired within, you may as well shut er down.

Good question but I'd like to see him in a different role. Certainly not AD. He would be a tremendous fundraiser for example. Not saying he'd even want to move back, but I think the thing that would prevent it would be a couple bad football seasons. People like me (who still want a building named after Rocky) would start comparing him to the coach. It could create tension? I don't know, it seemed ok when DM came back. The day of or after (I can't remember) Rocky's departure, he was scheduled to speak to a group of farmers and ag businessmen. He not only proudly took the podium, but he gave a tremendous speech. He also stayed for a very long time afterward and visited during and after lunch. I was there. That's the kind of man he is. I'll also add, fuck gay Bob and Ed Schultz. People need to remember people that tarnished Rocky. We need people like him and Amy R. in Bison athletics. They will always be a constant and always there when there's a coaching or administrative change or turmoil. Just my opinion. Sorry to all for the lecture but I get emotional about RH.

LB/EC, maybe you should combine the conference search threads too. Which one is going better right now? Keep us posted.
