View Full Version : Fulerton Wants to Move Title Game

Per Dom Izzo Big Sky commissioner Doug Fulerton wants to move the title game back to its original slot of before Christmas, fans would again have no time to coordinate travel plans in advance. Teams would have no time to heal up. I think this is a truly terrible idea, would mean a half empty stadium. FCS would look very small time.

According to Star2Shitty/SueValley, the whole Big Sky is moving FBS anyway, so isn't this a moot point?

Seriously though...Don't move the date...It's good how it is now.

Here is one idea. Play the game Friday evening instead of Saturday. If Fullerton is so desperate for "prime time" that is one way to get it. Of course, that really sucks for people driving to the championship because it means an extra day off from work (more than likely).

Anyways, I would ask Fullerton if the fcs brand has declined since moving after Christmas. I doubt it. And thanks to NDSU there are actually fans at the game now.

So moving it to before x-mas makes the rating better? I could be wrong but I would think there would be more competition with the bowl games before x-mas than where it is now.

The Big Sky Title game is already before Christmas. And Sam Houston State wins pretty much every year.

Dumb idea, I think it gets more media coverage this way. I don't think I'd made to either of the 2 I went to if I'd only had a week to plan it, just not enough time and too much hassle when you have 2 younger kids. As mentioned a Friday night game I could see and could be ok with as long as it was 7 pm or so start time not 8-9-10pm (well I'd be ok but kids might be a bit tough), both times I've always arrived on Thursday anyway just because we had kid(s) with us. So instead of doing fun things all day Friday would be able to do them on Saturday instead.

There is a precedent for this. In 2012, the title game was held in Fargo on Dec. 14.

First thing I thought of too. It's not like the BSC will be competing in the game....

If you read the article... He did have a couple valid points. NFL playoffs being the same day and the College Football Playoff will be playing that weekend. Burying the FCS championship game even more. :hide:
However, I don't want it moved for reasons stated above.

Playoffs aren't at 11 am and this would be a great teaser game to prep people for the big CFP that night. ESPN should be thrilled to cover all of it if they can. FCS championship early in the day with two playoff games or the championship game that night. Talk about keeping viewers on your channel all day long. Fulerton is an idiot.

Sounds good if only ESPN would actually promote the game. They always promote the worthless Bowl played parallel to the Championship game 100x more. And... ESPN will end up doing an all-day preview show prior to the playoff if history is any indication.

Sadly, I agree. ESPN only cover FCS playoffs because they have to and this is how they treat it. I always wonder if part of the reason they give NDSU some love is they have generated at least a little interest in FCS football that was not there before. People love dynasties....

Fullerton also suggested moving the season up by a week. How many students does he think would show up a week before classes start to go to a football game? As was already stated, the playoffs are already on the same day. Having the game at noon on saturday only conflicts with some 1 crappy bowl game. Keep is as is.

Why did some of you book flights before they officially announced the date of the game. It sucks but you shouldn't have assumed when the game was. I just hope the team gets there.

Per Mr. Izzo, the game will be played on Jan 10 next year. I could not find a confirmation on the NCAA site (big surprise) or Google. I'm not trying to jinx us or anything, but for those of you who reserved hotels or what not for the corresponding weekend, which would of been Jan 3 2015, may want to consider adjusting those if the tweet is true. I have CYA for both weekends now, so book away and drive those prices up ;)

Having a heck of a time finding free flights at low miles cost with this new date. I may have to used fixed value points and use more than 25K a ticket. (This make me shudder.....)
