On the women's side, Antoinette Goodman set a pair of Summit records in the 100m and 200m dashes. Sierra Rosenau also set a Summit record in the javelin yesterday.

Semobuddy, since you are at the meet ... do you know what the deal is with Morgan Milbrath? She was on the roster to run, but then did not. (Sick?) Erun Teschuk, had a slow 1500m (for her) - ran a 4:27 this year, then ran 4:48 or so in the Summit meet, and did not place, so wondering about that too. (sick?)

All ... I am curious ... in terms of numbers of competitors from the various Summit League schools, the Dakota schools seem to dominate (by far) with the number of athletes - NDSU, SDSU, and South Dakota. I take it there are NOT qualifying standards for competing in the Summit Championships ... I could not find any mention of it on the Summit League webpages. Anyone know what the deal is here? The other schools tend to have small T&F programs? Other?

A few impressive notables (for me) ...

Brett Kelly (Jr.) ran a 9:02 steeplechase. In this event, it is not unusual to see big jumps in times when they get a chance to compete against good competition. I think there is a good chance he can get well into the 8s next year. If he gets a chance to go to Jim Bush (or other) meet yet this year, where the weather is warmer and the competition really good, he could do it this year.

Dalton Herding (So, RFr for outdoor) I said somethng about him before. His writeup on the roster page says he ran a 1:59 800m in high school (state meet). I wonder if that is his best time. If not, I am guessing his best high school time is not a lot better than that. He ran a 1:51.64 today. An 8 second improvement in two years, that is HUGE, very impressive. He has three years to go. It will fun to see what he is able to do.

Throwers of course - are doing great, both men's and women's side.

Given the cool conditions (60s are too cool for best times in the sprints), Jerome Begn's 52.3 400m IH is a pretty impressive performance as well, as is the 200m times of both Goodman and Tinglestad. They ran PRs, both improved their 1-2 positions on the 'SU All-time 200m list. (The 60s are good for the 5000m, however, underway now.)

It sure would be nice if all these guys could get one good weather day and one more meet before the 2014 season is over. One of those cool springs in Fargo, makes it tough to reach their potential.

NDSU men and USD men tie for the title. USD had a 2 point lead going into the final event. The NDSU 4x400 relay team took 1st place, USD took second. The result was the overall tie for the championship.

That had to have been an extremely exciting race!

I have been to a lot of Track and Field meets in my life and there is nothing more exciting than when the team title is decided in the 4x400 relay! Gutty effort by the men to win and get a share of the championship. The women were outstanding, pulling away today. The word I got on Milbrath is she tweaked her hamstring and was held out today, but she should be ready for the NCAA regionals.

Fargo Forum had a good article on the meet - both men's and women's articles.

Forum mentioned that Jerome Begin was (slightly) injured earlier in the week, so was questionable until race day.
He really came through, nice job Jerome, ya ran tough.

One heck of a season for NDSU track and field - especially on the women's side (9 outdoor school records - that is crazy good - and a lot of folks getting into Top 10 lists) While the women have been stealing the spotlight for some time, there are some really good young men coming up. Very impressed with the freshman and sophomore classes.

We will have to see how NCAA qualifying goes. (I believe top 48 in each event go to the Western Regional, so there should be a few who make it.) Is that the final opportunity for the Bison? May 17 seems awfully early for ending the track season since the weather is just starting to get good.

Just checked tfrrs.com ...
(which has 2.0 m/s as the cutoff for accepted times. I do not know if 2.0 is the cutoff for the NCAA Western Regionals)

I did not see any Bison men in the top 50, although some of the throwers did well, and Begin in 400IH ranked quite well.

On the women's side, I found the following:

Ashley Tinglestad - ranked 31 (400m)
Paige Stratiotti - 38 (800m, and 79th 400m)
Antoinette Goodman - 28 (200m, and tied with about 10 others at 80 in the 100m @ 11.61)
Women's 4x400 - 17
Women's 4x100 - 28
Sierra Rosenau - 36 (Jav)

The results are NOT in yet from the Conference meets. Pac-12 for example wrapped up today so was not in yet. I am not sure what the cutoffs are - I think it is top 48 for Western Region - if that is the case, all of these have a good shot at going. (if the cutoff is top 24, then boo hoo, just missing out.)

The domination of NDSU track and field has continued to the DI level like it was in DII. NDSU has competed in the Summit League for 7 years. In that time there have been 28 indoor/outdoor, men's/women's conference championship meets. NDSU has won a combined 24 of those with the women's team having all 14 indoor/outdoor titles. Pretty amazing when you think about it.
