Would love to have the debate with anyone who says the Mountain West is clearly a more major bbal conference than the Missouri Valley. It simply isnt tuew and hasnt been for a bunch of years

I wonder if some conferences/schools chose not to participate in the poll, the voting is done by coaches.

With that said the A10, AAC and MWC are kind of in the grey area between high major and mid-major. The MVC was close but replacing Creighton with a bad program hurt them a lot.

Love seeing Delaware getting ranked.

True that. It's odd how teams we play in football absolutely fall apart after they play us - seems to be the opposite in basketball, at least as far as Delaware's concerned. Plus ND had that win over Duke.

The MWC is having a down year, and isn't as strong without BYU. It was only a year ago that the MWC was an unquestioned high-major.

its because the MWC, A10 and AAC arent considered "mid major"

MWC is not a major basketball conference. Never has been except in their own mind.

yeah a lot of experts see them as a tweener conference. past success of new mexico, unlv, sdsu, some of the top teams in the AAC and A10 theres no reason to consider them "mid major"

And how many national championships did they win? Final fours?

well AAC has louisville, uconn, cincy, memphis, temple. unlv won a title. st. louis, umass dont seem like mid majors to me. just a big grey area

exactly MWC claiming the UNLV success is just like the MVFC claiming 91, 93 & 94 Youngstown Tressel era titles hell can they even claim the 97 title?

different conferences completely for UNLV and YSU was Indy in I-AA

Well, the Mountain West got five into the tourney last year. In 2011, the MVC got one team in.

2013 5 MWC v 2 MVC
2012 4 v 2
2011 3 v 1
2010 4 v 1

Not saying that the MWC shouldn't be considered a mid-major, but they've been averaging four teams in the tourney compared to the MVC's 1.5.

In the MWC's defense the do have the number 5 ranked team in the nation right now. SDSU, New Mexico, UNLV and Nevada have all had seasons where they could be considered high major teams however from top to bottom I just don't see them as a high major conference. Every high major conference has a bottom feeder or two but the difference is all the teams in the middle of your top 2 or 3 and bottom 2 or 3 and the MWC just isn't strong enough there to be considered high major IMO.

Awesome so the University of San Fransisco and Holy Cross's conferences are major conferences because they won the National Championship years ago and are still the same program now as they were then. Thanks for clearing that up.

another great point, none of us decide anything to do with Bison athletics so we should never discuss anything we dont have total control over. Shut the Site Down!!
