"Huntsville, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - In his excitement over being named Sam Houston State's new football coach on Thursday, K.C. Keeler might have let the Bearkat out of the bag.
Sam Houston State officials may be considering a future move from the FCS level to the FBS.
"We really feel like we hit a home run here," Keeler told delawareonline.com in referring to he and his wife Janice's impressions of the Southland Conference university. "There's a lot in place. They're talking about maybe going FBS in the future - and that's something. If they go, they go; if they don't, they don't. I'll leave that up to the decision makers."
The 54-year-old Keeler, introduced on campus Friday as Sam Houston State's 15th head coach, brings a 174-73-1 career record to the Bearkats. He led Delaware to the 2003 FCS national title and two other appearances in the national championship game. He also guided Rowan to five Division III national championship games, though he did not win one.
Sam Houston State reached the FCS title game in the 2011 and '12 seasons, and finished 9-5 this past season under former coach Willie Fritz."
If they go FBS before us I will puke and then get drunk, in that order.
