I did a little stat comparison of NDSU offense vs UNH defense, and vice versa. I will list the FCS rank and the actual stat as reported by the NCAA.

----------

Total Offense vs. Total Defense, Rank - ypg

NDSU Off, 13 - 462
UNH Def, 74 - 400

NDSU Def, 2 - 252
UNH Off, 19 - 450

----------

Scoring Offense vs. Scoring Defense, Rank - ppg

NDSU Off, 14 - 38
UNH Def, 14 - 20.9

NDSU Def, 1 - 11.4
UNH Off, 32 - 32

----------

Rushing Offense vs. Rushing Defense, Rank - ypg

NDSU Off, 7 - 254
UNH Def, 53 - 156

NDSU Def, 3 - 92
UNH Off, 29 - 202

----------

Passing Offense vs. Passing Defense, Rank - ypg

NDSU Off, 64 - 208
UNH Def, 99 - 244

NDSU Def, 7 - 160
UNH Off, 30 - 248

----------

First Downs Gained vs. First Downs Allowed - First Downs per game

NDSU Off - 22.7
UNH Def - 20.6

NDSU Def - 13.7
UNH Off - 22.6

I did not calculate the rankings for these numbers, as NCAA only ranks the teams by total first downs in the season. The rankings are thrown off by teams playing anywhere from 7 to 15 games so far.

----------

Third Down offense vs. Third Down Defense, Rank - .pct

NDSU Off, 1 - .560
UNH Def, 65 - .394

NDSU Def, 1 - .262
UNH Off, 28 - .425

One thing I noticed is that UNH gives up 400 yards per game on defense, gives up a lot of first downs, and isn't great on 3rd downs. Really only slightly better, stat-wise, than CCU was going into last week.

Data doesn't lie. Bison win by 2 touchdowns IMO.

I agree with the above posts. Stats are awfully similar to CCU.

JDZ, thanks for taking the time to put this stuff together.

The Wildcats have had their backs against the wall since early in the season. After losing to Towson Oct 5th they are 9-1 and their stats reflect that. In those 10 games they have scored 33.6ppg and are giving up 16.8ppg! The Big South is not the CAA. This will be a much better team than we faced last weekend. 2 TD's sounds about right though!

UNH plays in a MUCH better league than CC. Also, their defense has improved significantly during the season.

Towson put up 700 yards of offense, I think we'll be able to move the ball, even if UNH has improved throughout the year. http://espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=332780119

Wow... 7 turnovers that game.

Yeah Towson runs with a greased pig as much as they drop the football.

Towson outscored UNH 41-0 in the 2nd and 3rd quarter of that game. UNH WR had a TD pass in that game...they like the tricks. I'm sure we'll see a handful on Friday, hope we're ready.

Bison D is well disciplined and rarely out of position, I doubt the trick plays will be as effective against them as maybe some other team's defenses.

I think if you want to have success against the Bison D you first need to figure out how to run the ball. Plain and simple, otherwise all the trick plays or up tempo offensives in the world aren't going to sustain scoring drives consistently enough to win games.

What is really crazy is that TOWSON threw for 380 yards that game. UNH was 1-3 at that point and many of their fans thought they were already in crapsville! The season ain't over till its over!

Their depth chart lists a base 4-2-5 D.

Liking the thought of that.

Not me, most of the games are boring blowouts the way it is.
