I'm not sure winning and losing is the entire problem with Bo...it is more his antics on and off the field that has Lincoln tiring of him.

I think it's more HOW they are 8-4. They won a game on a hail mary and their defense has been trash for most of the year. Pelini is supposed to be a defensive guru. Solich got fired after an 8-3 season before their bowl game. I think the key is Pelini's contract....a lot of money to swallow unless some boosters can foot the bill for his buyout. I'd put it at 60-40 Pelini comes back.

http://news.yahoo.com/nebs-pelini-want-fire-ahead-215626570--spt.html

The question is whether first-year athletic director Shawn Eichorst believes Pelini is moving the program in the right direction. Pelini is under contract through 2017 and makes almost $3 million per year

Sounds like UCLA's Jim Mora is likely headed to Washington. UCLA then has an opening.

Vanderbilt's James Franklin has to be in the running for a big-time program this year. This may have an effect on next year's coaching rumor mill because a lot of people, myself included, believe Franklin would be a good hire for KSU. Franklin was an assistant at KSU.

EDIT: Mora not going anywhere. UCLA locked him up.

I don't know, I don't really know much about him either. I didn't even know he was from ND until now.

It was complete BS what happened to him and I could see him doing well if a school takes a chance on him but that will likely be on a lower level than DI.

Some perspective on the Bohl's decision to take the Wyoming job starting at $750k......Eastern Michigan's coach had a 2013 salary of $349,937.

Knowing full well that any numbers I throw out will aid and abet the enemy, I will say the minimum. Again, full disclosure, I'm reporting a story that seems to be taking on a life of it's own but I feel it's important to post now so this website is credited for the work. To that end, I'll also be posting my real identity tomorrow and I will email all subsequent stories to the various media outlets including but not limited to ESPN, CBS Sports, etc.

Here's what I got.

In talking to various sources plugged into the Alabama and Texas sides, it seems Nick Saban is roughly $20 million in the hole due to investments with LSU and Alabama alums. These investments are predominantly in the commercial real estate space. For his trouble, Nick Saban is not a happy camper with these two alumni bases and has a hole in his retirement plan that Mark Ingram could run through. Additionally, I'm told Texas and the Longhorn Foundation have "passed the hat" to provide a dollar amount up front that nearly makes Nick Saban whole after these defunct investments. Call it the Lamarr Houston/Roy Miller investment strategy. The mechanism used to fund this "bonus" will be off the books in order to make the total compensation package more politically palatable when it's officially announced. Texas does not want to be perceived as the Yankees and again, I don't want to help negotiations with enemy.

As far as conventional compensation, look for the number to be right around eight million a year for six years with a two-year option. This structure makes it more acceptable to the BOR and the academics in the school. Don't tell them how much the athletic department contributes to the general fund because they won't listen. Just know that the football men understand how the perception game is played.

Trust me, I understand that there's always a counter offer in these deals, but I'm told that the Bama president does not want to get in a bidding war against Texas because she doesn't want it to seem like Bama is a semi-pro team. Again, this is the academic's mindset at work. She's, after all, Bill Powers' peer or at least is attempting to be. Add this item to the fact that Bama's Athletic Director Bill Battle has gotten sideways with Saban, and it doesn't bode well for the Tide. One final piece is Chancellor Witt.

Dr. Witt is the only ally that Saban has at the administrative level at Bama and he happens to be a Texas guy. Yes, Dr. Witt has a soft spot in his heart for Texas, and has told folks close to the Texas AD that he thinks Saban is headed to Austin.

If Saban is announced as the Texas head football coach in the next few days, fans will be in line to enjoy an historic change in culture and football operations in general.

Like you, I will enjoy the process.

In other words, I will look forward to Nick Saban's process.

I listened to this Tony Barnhart interview yesterday on the John Feinstein Show. It has nothing to do with the NDSU coaching search, but he talks about the Saban/Mack Brown/Texas/Alabama situation, conference title games and the inevitable split of the BCS conferences from the rest of the FBS. The comments from Barnhart that drew a parallel to our coaching situation was when Barnhart talking about why some coaches leave after 8-10 years. He talks about Spurrier leaving Florida after fans/boosters/alumni were complaining about 10 win seasons. Reminds me of some of the rubes who call Bison Rewind after a 24 point win and it isn't good enough. Believe me, I have fallen into that trap a time or two. We have had so much success, it kind of messes with the fans idea of reality.

Talking to a buddy about this last night, the coaching change has almost renewed excitement in the games for us. It's easy to get complacent when we literally always win...it's gotten almost boring watching the clinic, there is almost zero suspense when going to the games anymore. I believe there was an article about Bama fans feeling the same way, season tickets and/or attendance was down because they were always winning. Just weird how it works.

Schweigert is an interesting pick for a fluffy school. In a conference that is offense focused, I could see his success going either way. I think UND's strategy is very transparent though. Scooping up a MV defensive coordinator makes it obvious that they are trying to copy NDSU's recipe for success. The only problem with that is UND doesn't have the tradition or fan/alumni support that the Bison do. I will be very interested to see how this pans out.

I should have prefaced my comment about a good hire with considering how bad they could have done, this wasn't that bad. If he locks back into his UMD recruiting grounds, his teams will be in the middle of the pack. Not an indication of how good they might be but how bad the big fluffy is.

Mussman was kind of hired/promoted by default. North Dakota did not have an Athletc Director at the time to even conduct a coaching search. Mussman was the most experienced guy we had on the staff when Lennon left, so the acting A.D.'s were basically forced to give him the job.

PSU HC O'Brien to Houston....sounds like he had enough of the faction of Paterno loyalists at PSU....

O’Brien’s ire also was raised that day by my suggestion that a faction of Joe Paterno-era loyalists seemed to me to be miffed by Vanderlinden’s departure or dismissal, depending upon their view, and that they might want some sort of explanation. The former linebackers coach had been the second-longest-tenured member of the staff, dating to 2000, one of only two remaining staff members hired by the legendary coach. This really got O’Brien going:

“You can print this: You can print that I don’t really give a ---- what the ‘Paterno people’ think about what I do with this program. I’ve done everything I can to show respect to Coach Paterno. Everything in my power. So I could really care less about what the Paterno faction of people, or whatever you call them, think about what I do with the program. I’m tired of it.

“For any ‘Paterno person’ to have any objection to what I’m doing, it makes me wanna put my fist through this windshield right now.”

He was just getting started:

“I’m trying to field the most competitive football team I can with near-death penalty ----ing sanctions. Every time I say something like that and somebody prints it, it’s skewed as an excuse. And I’m not an excuse-maker. I’m trying to do the best I can for the kids in that program. That’s all I care about is the kids in that program. As long as I’m the head football coach here.”

Anyway, I was already a bit stunned because the bombshell had come a few seconds earlier when O’Brien said, off-the-record: “That’s why, in probably about a month, they’re gonna be ----ing looking for a new coach.”

Wow. The one thing that is cool about Western Kentucky's contract with Petrino is that by going to another FBS program, he has to schedule a home and home between his new and old schools over two seasons with no payments to either. I don't know how that holds up, but GT should have put that in his last coach's contract. If you leave for another school, FCS or FBS that is not an automatic qualifier for a BCS bowl, you have to schedule and a home and home.

I think you would call it a pistol spread option. They run their h-back or WR in motion to help block and then run a read option out of a pistol formation. Its kind of cool because no one is out of position to run or pass out of the formation, which is what SHSU did.

Isn't that essentially run and shoot? I thought the run and shoot originally started as a pistol like formation and always has 3+ WRs with motion.

But I wasn't thinking the read option, I know they do some of that, but I seem to remember some real, actual veer being called a la GSU, I just don't remember it out of the wishbone.

Alright, with Wolford in place for a few more years, let the backhanded compliments continue.

OK Now! That's a cheap shot...

If you go back to the 80s/90s, the Run and Shoot was originally 4 WR, QB under center. This is what Houston ran when Warren Moon was there, and Detroit for most of Barry Sanders' career. U of Houston ran that as well. I don't doubt that someone now runs the same concepts, just with the QB in a pistol or shotgun formation, but that is not the original concept.

Also no mention of a buyout in the linked article. At least he can tell recruits that he was extended. :)

Will be damn interesting to see how Lennon's stache retools his staff this year. Talk about an evacuation drill.... Could be good for him. Could be a disaster.

So when you say "retool," I hope that doesn't refer to Coach Hedberg. The rest I can understand :D
