FCS Week 8 Thread

Key FCS Games:
NDSU at SIU NBC ND/ESPN Game Plan/ESPN- This is a huge game in the MVFC, the Bison continue to roll at 6-0 while SIU is coming off two huge road wins at SDSU and UNI. This game will feature a Bison rushing attack vs an SIU defense that completely shutdown David Johnson of UNI and is limiting it opposition to only 85 yards per game. To win the Bison might need another large game from QB Brock Jensen. The Bison defense will also face a challenge from QB Kory Faulkner who is throwing for almost 250 yards a game and has 17 TDs on the season to only 4 INTs.

Fordham at Yale- I never would have thought this could be a key game when the season started by a road game at Yale might be all that stands in the way from Fordham finishing their season at 12-0. Two weeks ago Yale played great in a win on the road at Cal Poly but last week they dropped a game to Dartmouth. If Yale can rediscover the solid play that led them to a win at Cal Poly this is a game they can win and spoil Fordham's hopes for an undefeated season and high playoff seed.

Upset Special:
Liberty over Coastal Carolina- CCU has played great so far this year but I think this is where the slip up for the first time. Liberty is tough at home and have a few tough losses to solid teams so far in 2013. The fact that they limited a potent ODU offense to just 21 points shows me they have the defense the can slowdown CCU. I see them breaking through for a big W this week, thus setting up an interesting race for the Big South title down the homestretch of the season.

FCS Game of the Week:
SHSU at McNeese State ESPN3- This very well could be labeled the Southland Conference title game. SHSU has rolled anyone not named Texas A&M on their schedule while McNeese has played well outside of getting spanked on the road by a solid UNI team. McNeese is a very balanced team, averging 215 yards on the ground and 270 yards through the air. They are capable of putting a lot of points on the scoreboard but the real big question for the Cowboys will be can the slow down Tim Flanders? MSU is allowing over 170 yards rushing per game and Flanders has rushed for over 100 yards in his last two games vs MSU. Both teams are capable of lighting up the scoreboard, this game has the potential of being a track meet but I'm not sure if there are many teams in the FCS that can beat SHSU that way.

The Dakota schools moving up has been hard, very hard on UNI. They used to be the only game in town at this level for recruiting in the upper Midwest. Heck they would get recruits by default as their was not anyone recruiting hard against them in MN and Wisconsin. Lots more competitive now. From conference kings and contenders to just pretenders now.
