Where should the location be at?
I think we have to have the Fargodome and students or tail gaters in the back ground!

Parking Lot immediately south of the dome, with cameras facing west toward the tailgate area.

South parking lot. Hopefully the students will wrap the dome and sidewalks for even more exposure. Get there early.

I'd really like to see them set up in the parking lot just to the west of the west lot (Phoenix International or whatever that is back there) It's a great view of the entire tailgating with the dome squarely in the background. You can equally section off some of the reserved and GA tailgating for people to gather behind the set.

My guess is that they pick somewhere on campus that looks nice in the background, say by the union on albrecht by the fountain etc. They can then have cameras set up in and around the tailgating lot, student line and stuff. I would be surprised if they set up in or next to the tailgating lots. They will get people to show up wherever they setup.

They should do it on the east side, with "FARGODOME" draped in the back, like they do at all campus's with the stadium in the back.

Or jsut do it in the tailgate lot and let us drink while they work

I like the idea of the south end of the dome with students waiting in line. I think it would be sweet to get a shot of tailgating. The problem with the south is that is where all the reserved tailgaters line up. How about in Thunder Alley?

If there was ever a 3 game stretch to EXPAND TAILGATING - the next 3 games are College Game Day, Northern Iowa, and Homecoming

I like the street immediately west of the Fargodome. Use the south end and keep the north open for access for 19th Avenue. This would provide both FargoDome and west lot tailgating backgrounds.

Churchill is a nice location and all but I really like to see it somewhere close to the dome. Otherwise I'm not sure our great football atmosphere will come through if you just plop this in the middle of campus. It will look like it could be at any college campus in America but the Fargodome backdrop would be unique to NDSU.

I've got the perfect location for Gameday.

Use the parking lot just north of Research I. Background will be the tailgating lots and the Fargodome.

No impact to normal game day parking or tailgating.
No impact to game day traffic.
Minimal impact prior to game day.
Research building should provide sufficient power source.

I disagree. The WSU flag waving is now a part of the Gameday experience. In fact, I think NDSU fans should help get the Cougar flag on air. Let's enjoy the moment, be gracious hosts and revel in the national exposure for NDSU. Besides, Gameday won't go to WSU so we should feel sorry for them! LOL

Weird because I was kinda thinking the same thing but was too chicken shit to say anything because all I could picture was the old Bison faithful in the back of my mind spitting up their coffee along with their false teeth all over the computer screen while grimacing in a low grunt, "Who the f*** do you think you are...have you ever watched a game at ol' Dakota Field..."?

As an old band geek, I hope the set could be set up right along Albrecht. It could be cool for the GSMB to come along sometime toward the end of the broadcast(maybe about the time Korso dons the headgear). They could march up using the "quiet" cadence(band marching crouched over like they are sneaking up and drummers lightly tapping the rims) until a Gameday guy would give a signal for "loud" and then the drums could ring out and the band start screaming, halt, and play a quick On Bison. Gameday goes to commercial and the band quickly moves on their way to the BSA or Fargodome. Probably too much work for too little reward.

No impact to normal game day parking or tailgating.

Research building should provide sufficient power source.

Problem: If you set up toward the west side of that lot, you have a wonderful point-blank view of a bank of power units. If you move far enough east to keep the power units out of view, you're right on top of tailgating with little room for a crowd of fans.

Maybe the parking lot and the green space next to it in the crook of Research II? (between it and the hotel) You get all the same benefits as the other parking lot and the only problem is being right next to the hotel. Could be an advantage if they rent out the southern end to the Gameday production crew.

I still think the softball area to the south of Research I should be on the list of considered sites. Angle the set so it faces the Fargodome and you'd have space for fans in the foreground, the tailgating lots behind that, and the Fargodome rising out of the trees in the background. The set could be placed just inside the outfield fence so the fence could be used to keep fans out of the buffer zone, or the set could be just on the outside of the outfield fence so it would be a little closer to the action. If any of the fence is in the way, have a fencing company come in and roll up the chainlink fence but leave the posts. Once Gameday leaves, have them attach it back to the posts. Several hundred to a couple thousand bucks of labor would be a small price to pay.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one to think of the Churchill quad. Would have been a good location if the game was in the evening. But with an afternoon game, something close to the Fargodome is a better choice. Another central campus site could have been the very SW corner of the Union facing W-SW across the South Engineering fountain. The main view would have been centered on the junction of the Minard addition with framing by South Engineering and Morrell. With the Minard addition, I think the heating plant would be almost completely covered up.

I really don't think they will set up near tailgating. Maybe I'm wrong but my bet is on campus. There is just no nice scenery for a backdrop near tailgating. Their set is not going to be ground level, lets says it 5,6 even 8 ft off the ground, what kind of backdrop would you get looking over the top of everyone that is tailgating and seeing a big brick building in the distance?

Setting up in a field or parking lot with the stadium in the background seems to be their typical location. Sometimes they are a ways away from the stadium though.

It is a show about college football, I think the dome would provide a unique backdrop. Putting it in the middle of campus wouldn't do that and it wouldn't really capture a college football atmosphere.

They will be out! This is really all they have left. They are waiting for teh hockies to start. A successful program, but hasn't done anything noteworthy since dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Their football team is a mess. Just look at their program right now. It's completely in shambles. I was talking to a UN_ fan about the current situation this morning and he said, "Hey, NDSU sucked their second year in also." But, look at those games that 3-8 year. I think UNI was the only game that was out of control. And it was like two TDs difference. Not 6 like they did and will experience the next few games. They will be out and doing all that's left for them this year. I feel like it could get ugly actually. We are proud of our program and don't want them to suck the blood of our success. I just predict at least one fight. I just hope it isn't on camera!!

I hope the people at NDSU Athletics explain this to ESPN and they choose a place near the dome. I would say in the field south of the tailgate lot as others have said or the practice fields.
I'll take your 10,000 and double it. Seriously.

It looks like they were set up on an open field at College Station that is roughly the size of 3 football fields. I'm not sure if the coaches would like thousands of people trampling the practice fields.

They will be set up within sight lines of the dome. Trust me on this. The questions I have:

1. How many jagbombs will they have with SD?
2. Will HerdMentality give a sermon?
3. Will CAS make it on tv in his AG approved clothing?
4. Will the poster formerly known as Ming make it to the game?
5. Which Bisonviller will be asked to guest host on the show?

If they set up in the Fargodome lots, where is a good place to look for alternate parking? Can you park at North High?

From NDSU's facebook page.

Great site meeting with ESPN College GameDay. The producers raved about the passion of Bison Nation.

"We're well aware of your fans," said a smiling GameDay producer.

The meeting ended with them saying there's usually one show a year that has opportunity to be pretty special, and we think that's this show. After which they added that this has the potential to be the biggest College GameDay ever!

Found this fantastic read...a Gameday instruction manual that follows the WSU flags around the country. The positioning diagrams look very useful.

Oh man, that just gave me goosebumps. I think they are right. ESPN, and the rest of the country are going to be blown away by Bison Nation!!!

If Game Day starts at 8 a.m., and this is going to attract fans, everyone's relatives, people who just want to take part in this, etc., do you think traffic is going to be a problem that morning? I do. Wondering if I should go up about 6:30 a.m., just to not have to deal with backed up traffic. I hate traffic, but if it is a problem at 7 a.m. Saturday, I will like traffic.

I'm sure they want to make Fargo look like a bustling upper midwestern metropolis and not have the Fargo Loaf in the background but in terms of fans and traffic this is an epic failure.

If NDSU simply says "no, they won't travel" ESPN makes a different decision, odds are closer to campus. Yes, ESPN pulled the trigger, but this did not have to be an option.

People would complain if NDSU turned down Gameday because it couldn't be on campus. Am I happy it's downtown? No. Will I be there downtown? Yes.

ESPN owes NDSU NOTHING. Telling ESPN what they will and will not do is ridiculous. Everyone should just be happy that they considered Fargo. AND they should be THANKING ESPN for coming.
