View Full Version : Does MSU have to win against SMU to remain relevant?

I have been thinking about this all week... with NDSU over KSU, EWU over Oregon State, and UNI over Iowa State. I personally believe that if MSU loses today, they at a minimum have very little chance of getting seeded.

I personally think that this year, FBS wins are more important than they were in years past.

How many seeds will there be this year? I'm thinking either six or eight. Historically, 25% of the field is seeded. That would give us six. But there will be eight first-round byes and the committee might just want to seed them all.

As far as playoffs are concerned, we'll have to see how it all plays out.

As far as on the national scale, if they don't win today, they won't be a part of the conversation.

They would have much more impact, imo, if they had come to Fargo and won than if they went to SMU and won. Hard to do that though when you puss out. Proofs in the pudding and so far all MSU has shown is that they look great on paper and in the big fluffy, but when it comes to real competition they either falter or tuck tail.

8. Top 8 teams get a bye, sixteen games face off in the first round and winners face seeds. 8 + 16 = 24.

Looks like Mt. St. was in control the whole game until the final seconds.

Still glad they lost.

That is exactly what I was thinking... If SMU was in the FCS, they might be able to sneak their way into the playoffs :)

It also looks like they may have lost DMAC for an extended period of time. He got injured on the last play and word is that it MIGHT be a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder.

Should prepare them well for playing in the tin shed.
