Due to work i recorded it....and at the start of the 4th quarter i bumped the remote that sent it to FS1 for post game analysis and of course the score was front and center. On a positive note...now that i knew they would win...the last drive was enjoyable instead of excruciatingly nerve wracking as it would have been had i not known.

When we kicked off with :28 remaining in the game, the ball rolls dead in the end zone. Nobody touched it, at least while the camera was on it. Isn't that a live ball?

Yeah. It's live unless it changed this year. I think it was 2 years ago when I believe a Wofford or Lehigh returner let it go against uni in a playoff game. Uni jumped on and scored

Almost like the call that almost went against NDSU with Shamen Washington at the Gopher game.

I believe if it lands in the endzone and no attempt is made by the receiving team, it's a touchback.

Correct. If a kick untouched by the receiving team beyond the neutral zone (i.e. a tip behind the NZ doesn't count) touches in the end zone, it is a touchback. If the receiving team touches it, it's still a live ball. This is why they can run it out in NCAA rules. If the receiving team touches it in the field of play and it bounces into the end zone it remains a live ball. The status of the ball is still a kick and the impetus is still the kick. This means the receiving team can still down it for a touchback. If the receiving team does something that causes the ball to go into the end zone (i.e. a bat or illegal kick or muff of a motionless ball) then it would be a safety. This rarely ever happens though.

Let's say the receiving team possesses the ball at the 2 but their momentum carries them into the end zone where they down the ball. What's the call?
