I figure we can title the thread like this because they'll be plenty of opportunities to add. A former Marine can't play football because he played in intramural games in the Marines. Seriously http://deadspin.com/former-marine-cant-play-football-this-year-because-of-1162940040

So to translate. "Thanks for serving our country and congratulations for wanting to seek furthur education and wanting to paticipate in college athletics; now go sit in the bench for a year." The NCAA has done a lot of bone headed things; but this has to rank near the top.

Well, in this case, the NCAA is just enforcing the rules that the membership made.

If the membership doesn't like it, they should stop voting through rules like this. Not sure what it was supposed to stop but it probably didn't have anything to do with football - probably had to do with baseball or something. The second sport I thought of was hockey but, honestly, they might as well put /buthockey on the end of every rule because while a marine loses eligibility for playing organized intramural football while hockey guys don't lose eligibility for playing semipro.

The NCAA reversed their decision.

I really expected that. I'm guessing the delay was to make sure that they worked through a bunch of scenarios to eliminate the potential of opening up ANOTHER can of worms.

The article was quite clear that some wording got lost over the years in the basic rule.

I hear plenty of people complaining regularly about the NCAA having TOO MANY RULES. The tradeoff to that is having fewer rules that throw a wider net and often have unintended consequences.

Apparently the NCAA is getting some competition in the category of "How can we f$#K over student athletes." This week's competition is from the NAIA:

WHAT!!!!!!

You mean to tell me I have no eligibility left? I was ready to walk on the team next year.

Well, there goes that dream.

Damned NCAA, dream crushers, that's all they are.
