(http://www.biggerfasterstronger.com/uploads2/83_Mar_JeffBentrim.pdf)The story above was written before Bentrim ever played at NDSU where he broke Walter Payton's record for TDs rushing, was named the first win of the Harlon Hill Trophy, and started in four national championship games.

Good stuff Tony!

I note that it was written by the late Don Larson who followed Bennie to NDSU where he coached the DL. His death at an early age was very unfortunate for his family and everyone who knew him.

Bentim ran the veer in high school... I didnt know that but no wonder he played as a freshman. Pretty strong and fast for a high school kid, even by today's standards

Do many high school kids still play both offense and defense (not counting the small schools don't have big rosters)? I'm almost positive Tony satter also played defensive back and was the punter along with his running back and return duties in high school.

I think if you go down the roster of NDSU football, most of those guys played both ways in high school. Of course most of those guys were the best athletes on their HS team.

We had a few guys who played both ways.

We had our officiating clinic today and one of the teams (5A school...2nd largest classification here) had a big, athletic quarterback. I made a comment about his size to one of the opposing team's coaches and he said he's also their starting defensive end! I bet that's not a combination you see very often.

See if you can get him to SU.

In terms of leadership, durability, and desire to compete, I think Jeff will always be the Quarterback, whom others are measured against.
