View Full Version : K-State's Dirty Little Secret

For those of you planning to make the trip, you'd be smart to also book rooms in Kansas City. You can always cancel 24 hours ahead of time if you don't use them. Why you ask? Because it's going to take a minor miracle to have the stadium ready on time. K-State has reached an agreement on first right of refusal on some dates with the Chiefs and there is a very good chance the first few games will be hosted at Arrowhead Stadium. Don't expect anyone at K-State to comment on it, and no one at the Chiefs will go on record about it, either. But it's no skin off your back to have a backup plan in place. Use this time to find good deals and that way you're not caught with your pants down some August.

Two words (http://www.bisonville.com/fanguide/dictionary/def000056.html): Bison Home Game. :)

80,000 seats versus 50,000? I'd go for that. Would that be a guaranteed record for a Kansas State home game?

I hinted at this here and nobody bit.

http://www.bisonville.com/forum/showthread.php?30365-K-State-Game-tickets&p=738879#post738879

My next-door neighbor works as an electrician on the stadium project. He spent Memorial Day and pretty much every waking hour working on the stadium. When I asked him if the project is on schedule, he just laughed. He said it's behind and Arrowhead is the contingency plan for up to the first 4 games.
I'd be all for having the game at Arrowhead.

Ugh. I hate the location of Arrowhead. It's not near anything and it's not in a college town. I'd rather party in Aggieville than the "Power & Light" district.

I actually think KSU's stadium will be completed or at least serviceable for the game. There is too much at stake to get this completed on time and the contractors are going to get slammed with fines if it's not done. The seats in the bowl are intact and as long as the pressbox and suites are enclosed with power I can't see them moving the game.

That's comical. We take 40k+ to Dallas on more than one occasion, the same to Tempe/Glendale. The only reason we wouldn't take 50k+ to any game in Arrowhead would be the level of competition. Well.....you might have a good point after all...

First game against ISU we did well. Second one, not so much. I think there was a perception the game could turn into a rivalry of sorts. The fact of the matter is...nobody really cares about / hates ISU except for possibly U of Iowa.

Games at Arrowhead against California and Southern Cal (both vistories btw) had great KSU turnouts.

For the record, I've not claimed KSU to be an "elite program". There are probably < a dozen of those and KSU is not in that group.

It's a bit behind, but I cannot see it resulting in a location change for the game, especially considering it has nothing to do with the playing surface itself. We've got what, 79 more days? I don't see an issue.

I wasn't trying to stir up smack by saying that KSU could set an attendance record if the game did get moved to Arrowhead. It looks to me that KSU's attendance record is 53,811. KSU did play Iowa State at Arrowhead in 2009 and 2010 at Arrowhead, but neither game broke 41,000.

Sure seems that with as well as KSU is doing and the way NDSU fans travel, that an attendance record could be set if the game does get moved. Really, it doesn't seem likely that the game will be moved, but it sure would make it easier for us Bison fans.

If this happens, I will be taking the whole family down as their will be plenty of cheap tickets! K-State does not travel well to Arrowhead stadium.

the game will 99% be at BSFS... so really no point in discussing.. it's actually ahead of schedule...

but for the record, the reason that two of the best known smaller bcs schools for traveling didn't put many into arrowhead was because of how expensive the game was (therefore no cheap tickets) ... plus arrowhead charges you the nfl price for parking, doesn't open any concessions, isn't allowed to serve beer and generally treats the game like it's a giant nuisance to them...

K-State fans have set records (who knows how legit because how do you really know?) for traveling to bowl games... all arrowhead had to do was act like they were happy to be hosting the game, and that game could have sold out (iowa state fans usually flood kc for games as well)

A.) Notre Dame is one of the few fanbases that can play a game anywhere in the United States and sell the stadium out on their own...without some big grassroots effort.

B.) Notre Dame has 11 National Titles I believe....a team from frickin Indiana...not even remotely a football state, gets national TV every week because people watch. Whether you love Notre Dame like I do, or hate them like many do, they along with maybe Alabama, are the New York Yankees of collegiate football.

There are only two college stadiums I need to watch a game in before I die, I've already been to plenty in the Fargodome, the other, is Notre dame Stadium, the house that Rockne built.

Thread drift, if PL wants to PM this disagreement or whatever you want to call it, thats fair. get the thread back to K-State potentially not being ready.

I guess you need to learn the meaning of decorated. One word I know you know the meaning and that would be delusional.
But I have to ask why all Domers get on the defensive when its not needed. For a supposedly great institution one would think that over hyped explanation wouldnt be needed.

yes...I have a fetish with the most decorated/largest fanbase(honestly it is probably not even remotely close) in the US, I was referring more to the Bowl travelling....rather than arrowhead. Though looking back I did not make that clear.

You would think that a supposedly great fan base wouldnt need to try and keep telling people how great they think they are. Just shut up and let your attendance speak for itself. But then again there a lot of bandwagon domers that run around and just have to tell you that there a domer fan. WHOPPEE:biggrin:

I don't hate Ndame, but their pathetic play proved the need for a D1-A playoff. That was one of the most one-sided NC games I've ever watched. What a joke.

Notre Dame literally had the worst possible matchup for them. I think had they played Georgia, Oregon, or Kansas State, they would have won....or at the very least have had a close game.

The playoff system...as it gets slowly expanded..is gonna be awesome!

You might have beat K State...but Georgia was basically only a step behind Alabama and Oregon was way too fast for ND. It will be an interesting year for ND with yet another new QB...now the Gholston is academically ineligible. To ND's credit they take the academics side very seriously. If he doesn't get his stuff turned around, he will be the starting QB somewhere else.

My buddy called the KState football office and posted the convo on Facebook...

I just talked to Linda at the K-State ticket office and asked what she knew about rumors that the first game of the season is going to move to Kansas City because they won't be done with renovations?? Linda: "Not going to happen. The football game will be played here" Me: "Where is here? "Manhattan? K-State" Linda: "Yes, without a doubt, renovations will be done" Me: "So I don't need to worry about getting rooms in Kansas City?" Linda: "Yep, you are good to go."

Not gonna deny that the rumor has not been around on the K-State boards but it's never been taken seriously by anyone that paid any attention whatsoever to the construction cams, videos or has actually seen it with their own eyes. The "K State fans" referenced above were most likely on a fishing expedition.

And, yes, this thread as given me a chuckle or two.

On my trip to KS to handle some housing things this weekend, I was quite surprised to see the tollway and how much it costs to get between cities on I-70. Cost me $1.75 to get from KC to Lawrence. How much is it to Manhattan?

$2.25 from the eastern terminal to the East Topeka terminal where I-70 leaves the turnpike and heads on west. Certainly not out of line with other toll roads I've been on around the country but if you want to save the money you could take US 24 to Topeka and then I-70. But be aware it's mostly two lane and a much slower journey.

So it ends in Topeka? I haven't seen a toll road that wasn't easily avoidable before.

It cost over $10 to take the toll roads to make a round trip from our hotel near DFW to Frisco.

The KTA turns to the southwest at Topeka towards Emporia. I-70 continues west from Topeka as a free interstate. At Emporia the KTA joins I-35 and proceeds to Wichita and the Oklahoma state line. The KTA was built 1954 - 1956 before I-70 was built.

The above quotes are the evidence from which we are drawing our conclusions. If you had people on the ground in Fargo, why wouldn't you believe them?
