Not exactly an impressive list but this is who the SoCon will try to replace App State, GSU and College of Charleston with..

During a conference call Thursday that lasted about 20 minutes, the Southern Conference made major progress toward adding new members to replace the departing College of Charleston, Appalachian State and Georgia Southern.

Commissioner John Iamarino was upbeat during a post-meeting phone interview. He said the presidents and chancellors selected three schools for campus visits.

According to sources familiar with the SoCon's membership search, those three schools are Virginia Military Institute, Mercer and East Tennessee State.

Not bad though, either, considering the history those schools have with the conference.

Looks VMI is in....

"The Southern Conference did visit [the school] two weeks ago on a Wednesday [May 8] and all indications are that we're going to go back to the Southern Conference," Baucom continued. "It will be formally announced, I think, May 30th or 31st at the Southern Conference meeting."

It also sounds like the SoCon will lose Elon to the CAA.

Elon will have a press conference on Thursday to announce they are leaving the SoCon and joining the CAA. Albany will also join the CAA for all-sports.
