Do you want partisan political talk on the board or not?

I probably won't participate, but I enjoy reading train wreck threads.

Not particularly, if for no other reason, I know there are extremes of views here. If we do have, I say it stays in political type threads, maybe a sub-forum, I don't want to read partisan politics in a recruiting thread, for example.

Agreed, its own sub-forum is the best way to do it. I don't really want to see partisan politics pollute the entire board either.

Keep it off the board altogether. The biases will carry over to the rest of the forum, just like they did on AGS when it went to hell.

If we add a politics subforum, we might as well add a /B/ subforum as well.

After a while I just get sick of the endless arguing that ultimately results in yourself feeling upset because you will not accomplish much by arguing with people on a message boards.

As said there other places where politics can be debated... know that way too many here have opposing views we don't need people getting into arguments and hissy fits over political views... (already happens enough the way it is and this is coming from a guy who loves to talk politics...) people are here to be Bison fans first.

Huh.

I've found message boards to be a great forum of debate on a number of topics including politics, religion, and Kim kardashian. Open kinds, well constructing arguments, fact-based discussions, and collegial sparing... That kind of thing.

I like the board politics free, save ndsurelated discussions.

What he said.

If the back-and-forth is that bad on this subject, then I'd hate to see it on some other topics. And like someone earlier said on here (I'm too lazy to remember who) when politics are allowed, even in separate sections, it tends to merge into other non-political sections.

I think it would be great if there was any way at all for it to be civil at the same time. I'm not sure what happened to our world to make it so that most people cannot have a respectful debate of opposing views. It's pretty sad, really. For that reason, I would say no. There would be no way to keep out the venom and that venom would easily spread elsewhere. Look how destructive it is when it leaks in now.

This whole thing makes me think a lot about my dad, who we lost last summer. He and I used to have great discussions about life, the world, religion, America, health care, and the way things just ought to be. Even though he brought me up, we have always come at "solutions" from totally different perspectives. The great thing is that he was always so good at listening and responding to what I said. He did not have a pre-scripted argument that he was waiting to unleash on anyone that would listen...as do so many other people. He was a thinker and a doer. I know that it may seem impossible given the state of these sorts of things anymore but there have been so many times that my or his opinion on a very complex topic was altered a bit or even changed altogether based on what the other one said. I wish the rest of the world were like that. We'd certainly be better off. I really miss those talks.

Sorry to be a downer.

Nope, it would become a political board that had some football on it.

I actually thing you walk the line here pretty well, as far as allowing a little respectful discussion, but warning and/or cutting it off when it starts to get outside the lines. Someone or another always gets their feathers ruffled about what was or wasn't moderated, but its a subjective thing, so that's always going to happen.

Best analysis and advice I have seen on BV in a long time. Politics ain't gonna happen here because of the immediate reaction to any opinion that does not fit the speaker's opinion. Even when the opinions align, peeps get butt hurt.

Lets call this post a point of light in a rather large abyss.

I have no problem with it staying off the board, but I have a big problem with the bias this board shows. It seems you can bitch all you want about some politicians even if it has nothing to do with NDSU, but the next political comment gets slapped down. Keep it fair and I don't have a problem. Let someone from the evil side take a cheap shot and I'll certainly take one back at the opposition.

Politics would ruin this Forum/cite. I am an Admin on an Indian Motorcycle Forum that has several thousand members from both U.S. and other countries across the world. We Admins had to nix politics because it was affecting the overall integrity if the Forum's purpose--Indian MC's. I think the same would happen here. I thread about Vigen, for example, would end up with political beliefs interjected--and we certainly would not want that to happen!! :) SRSLY tho, I think politics being an "open" topic here would cause many to leave or stop posting. What politics are already posted is almost too much (and I am guilty as charged at times)-->I vote NO.

Guess they should not be about jokes in your world. As usual just a lot of PC stuff goes on here. Already, since those that monitor this messageboard lean a certain way politically, they tend to let things go when it is in their best interest. Just sayin.

Interesting. I've always thought that the spectrum of political thought is not a line with "right" on one side and "left" on the way other side, but rather a circle - if one person goes far enough left and another person goes far enough right, they'll meet up in the land of batshit crazies.

Interesting in theory, however in reality I think it goes more like this...

Step 1) Determine what I want to call myself.
Step 2) Determine what you are called
Step 3) If 1<>2 then automatically take the opposite position and declare the other person stupid, wrong, evil, socialist, war criminal, bla bla bla...
If 1=2 then agree on everything disregarding any potential illogical positions. (I.E. Gun Control vs Patriot Act)
