is the spring game going to be televised this year?

HerdBot
04-18-2013, 04:01 PM
The real question is "Will it be in HD?" Last year it looked like a cable access production. Even worse than a game.

I haven't seen any promos on TV to watch it but I don't usually watch live tv. I've seen billboards and a bunch of stuff promoting the game... but not promoting the game on TV. Good question.

Come on out. It's free and a good opportunity to hone your tailgating skills.

I confirmed it is but seriously folks screw watching it on tv. Let's set a record for the largest tailgate for a spring game. The more people the merrier. Set the tone for the season by shattering the attenance record. What was it last year? 6K?

Got this email today.

I called 231-nsdu this morning and the person who answered the phone said 5 or 5-1/2 hours before kickoff. I told her other emails and press releases said 8:30 or 9 and the social media sites say that too. She transfered me to a lady who was in charge and she confirmed its 830/9. She said they were going to resend an email stating 830/9 so maybe they changed it again. Feel free to show up at 730 but it may be wrong.

Not too surprising and I'm sure many have speculated this because of the all the injuries and non-participants but the spring game will just be offense vs defense rather than having split squads: http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/397726/group/Sports/

It'll be interesting to see how the defense scores points for sacks, turnovers, TFLs, etc. I was also not aware that Darius Anderson was injured. He was the player I was the most interested to see in the spring game, it'll be disappointing if he can't go.

I just want to see some football again. I don't care if the score is 3-0 or 37-0. I don't care if all of the starters sit out. I want to see our next crop of Bison on the field. See what they can do and who may be able to help this season.

Wrap them all in foam! If I''m right, the RBs will be Lang, Ojuri, and #38 Francisco Hardacker. It's a real possibility that we have 2 RBs hurt at some point next fall, so the spring game might still tell us something

due to the amount of starters out with injuries, this will be similar to the other scrimmages. Offense vs defense. Simulating a real game. There will be a halftime due to the TV. Probably go 60-70 plays. Probably alot of passing with the # of RB's available and I can't imagine Sam will carry it much at all. Not sure if the QB's are live. I hope not.

Niether QB looked particularly stellar.

Wentz goes 8-17=47%

Jensen 4-11=36%

I don't know if a spring game is a good measuring stick, but it appears our passing game is still looking rather anemic. I would like to see quite a bit of improvement in that department for next season.

ARGO, N.D.--The Green (defense) intercepted a pair of Gold (offense) passes and came up with a fumble recovery to jump out to 12-0 lead en route to a 27-16 win in North Dakota State University's annual spring football game played Saturday, April 27, before 4,921 fans at Gate City Bank Field in the Fargodome.
Prior to the opening kickoff, the 2012 NCAA Division II national championship team was honored with their rings in a ceremony at midfield.
The spring game featured 54 plays and used a scoring system to give points for interceptions, fumble recoveries, three-and-out possessions, fourth down stops, tackles for loss, 10-play drives, sacks, along with normal football scoring plays.
Green free safety Christian Dudzik intercepted a pass on the first possession and All-America cornerback Marcus Williamsoutwrestled the receiver for the ball on the second. The defense also recorded a three-and-out and tackle for loss from nose guard Brian Schaetz.
Redshirt freshmen safeties Bo Liekhus came up with the hit and Andrew Smith scooped up a fumble in the second quarter to put the Green ahead 12-0.
Smith's fumble did lead to Gold's first score, a 31 yard field goal from Adam Keller. The offense struck again when Brock Jensen connected on an 8-yard scoring pass to Zach Vraa to cut the deficit to 17-10 at halftime.
The Gold could only manage a pair of field goals, a 27-yarder from Keller and Tom Barneson's 41-yard field goal in the second half.
Overall, the Green defense finished with six tackles for loss, a trio of three-and-outs, a pair of interceptions, two stop drives, a pair of sacks and the fumble recovery for the . Linebackers Esley Thorton and MJ Stumpf each finished with six tackles. The burly Schaetz was hard to handle in the middle with four tackles including two tackles for loss and a sack.
Sophomore quarterback Carson Wentz completed 8 of 17 passes for 81 yards and one interception. Jensen completed 4 of 11 passes for 77 yards one TD and an interception. Jensen rushed twice for 19 yards, and Wentz coverd 21 yards on six carries.
Redshirt freshman wide out Carey Wood made a pair of receptions for 57 yards including a 36-yard play. Eight different players caught a pass including D Gray's 29-yard catch.
Along with the efforts of Keller and Barneson, sophomore Ben LeCompte punted four times for an average of 39.8 yards including two inside the 20. The offense and defense combined for only four penalties.
North Dakota State opens the 2013 season on Aug. 30 at Kansas State, televised nationally on Fox Sports

I stood in line in front of one of the parents of a Rfr on the team at the locker room sale and he couldn't believe what a big deal Bison football was when he came to his first ever game last fall. He is from Minnesota and he said that when they drove into town and saw the signs and the chaos of tailgating, to the loud dome he had no idea it was so massive up here. What did I miss? He get a MIP?
I asked how he has looked this spring and people freaked out and thought I was being a dick since he apparently is in trouble or something. Who knows because everyone around here is scared to talk about it.

Considering the Bison are unbeaten in those jerseys, I think they are just fine.
Winning in them does not make them better looking. They're pretty gross. And not gold. Mustard is putting it nicely.

Somebody on the board said that he got written up at the dorm or something. A UND fan said he got a MIP but I did a court search and didn't see it. Happy now?

MIP on the court search. 16 hrs sandbagging satisfied, class, and $325 fine, paid.

It appears that the Bison have added needed depth at key positions, especially WR & LB. Also, I was really impressed with #94 Luecke and #6 Smith.

Luecke and Schaetz are good enough to start at DT and will play behind Drevlow and Perry. Hardie slides to the middle on nickel situations from time to time. If Leevon makes a full recovery our rotation will be insanely good.

I love the freshmen receivers. Woods seems to be good getting yac yards. Grey has the potential to be a solid deep threat

Anybody else shocked at how fast Wentz is in open space? I know we've seen him take off in the playoffs, but he really seemed to fly. Kid has a cannon as well, just wish he would find his receivers sooner and get them the ball quicker so they can make plays with their feet. Seems like he hesitates just a tad and tries to make up for it with his arm.

Woods really impressed me. Sticky hands. Stumpf also caught my eye. Kid was everywhere. Just a little late sometimes where experience would help him out. Lechler and Plankers are absolutely HUGE!!! DT's were tough all game and the interior lineman need a little chemistry.

Woods did a nice job. He carried the ball with a few defenders on him, which I was impressed with the most.

He did look pretty dang fast out there. I also noticed he didn't find Woods as fast as I thought he maybe could have on that rollout pass that he still completed to him, but damn, Woods was wide open earlier in the play. I'm probably wrong though, maybe that is the way the play was supposed to unfold.

I would agree with you on that play. I think he should have hit him sooner. He should have also tried to throw it to Bonnett sooner on the play that MW picked off/ripped out of his hands. Throw it sooner and towards the opposite sideline a little more, and Bonnett is dragging MW and whoever else catches up on the play.

We have all the players with just the right skill. If we keep fine tuning our game, plan and plays we can put together a fine bethoven masterpeice come fall. I like how all the players are very flexible and sharp in their role.

Really liked the call on the Bonnet pass. Great play by Marcus though.

Liked what I saw from Wentz.

I must say I liked a lot of the plays they called for the offense. I really liked the use of play action, especially with Wentz. He really sells it. Interesting we didn't see any trick plays like we did last year. Which I believe one of the trick plays last year was the "Hide Ryan Smith" play they used against SDSU. It gained maybe 10 yards in the spring game.

Wentz will be solid when it's his turn. Some playing time will help.

I am trying to remember again, how many SDSU players even touched him? And how many SDSU players even realized he had the ball?

Potential, yes. He's a long way from there yet. The spring game was the first time he went up for a ball and actually got it in spring practice. He has to do that consistently, something Wahlo has also struggled to do throughout his career. But, I, like you, remain hopeful.

In the spring game Gray caught a nice long pass on the west sideline with one hand. Is that the type of play he needs to go up and get the ball instead of letting the ball come to him?

Might be, seems like I saw him use his body and adjust his speed to keep the defender behind him just enough so that he was the only one that could make a play on the ball? If so, that is a really tough play to defend.

Did DeSean Warren get to play in the spring game or is he still rehabing his knee?

Nice catch. Is it better for him to go up and get the ball "at the ball's highest point" rather than give the shorter DB to deflect or int the ball?
Never did understand that phrase. Totally ignores physics.

I dug on this recently. He hasn't been cleared to play yet, but will be ready for the season. 2nd torn ACL, but bigtime speed. He will take some time, but hopefully his explosiveness is there, as he has bigtime speed. Different type of receiver.

I think it completely depends on the throw and where the receiver and defenders bodies are on the play. If you have a play like Saturday's where the QB drops it in nicely then the receiver should use his body to shield the defender from the ball. If you have more of a bullet and/or the defender is even with the WR then I think you've gotta go up and get the ball before the defender knocks it away (which our DB's are really good at and showed it multiple times on Sat.).

If the DB has a good chance and sees the pass then you have to go get it. If it's a good throw that the DB can't get then catching the ball in stride is an advantage to the WR for after the catch yardage. It all depends on the type of throws and how the DB is playing it.
