Has anyone crunched the numbers on average attendance for 2006? What will a sellout on Saturday put the average attendance at? How does NDSU's attendance average compare to other 1-AA schools?

Is there a statistician on the board???

Here's the rundown:

We're averaging 15,708 so far through 4 games.

Here's the att. numbers for those games:

8/31 - Concordia/St. Paul - 15,609
9/16 - Northeastern - 16,134
10/14 - Mississippi Valley State - 16,384
11/11 - Cal-Poly - 14,706

We need an attendance of at least 17,167 on Saturday to average 16,000.

I believe we're still in the top-10 in I-AA in attendance, but we may have dropped to #11 or 12.

Hope that clears things up. :)

To break the 16,000 per game barrier, the attendance has to be 17,167 - that would likely put NDSU at #10 in DI-AA attendance for the year. There are five DI-AA teams that average more than 20,000 per game.

If NDSU sells a 19,667 tickets, we could break 16,500 per game mark. That'd set the bar pretty high for next year.

Oops, Bisonator beat me to it. If only we could do a table to show the change in attendance since announcing DI... oh, wait:

Year Avg. ChangePercent
200210,620n/an/a
200311,567+947+8.9%
200413,269+1702+14.7%
200514,160+891+6.7%
200616,000+1840+13.0%
Total+5380+50.7%

Of course, one worse-than-expected season can drive away a lot of fairweather fans, but it sure looks like 17,000 will be attainable next year. I thnk that this year's Gopher game will sell a lot of season tickets next year.

I hereby predict we will sell out every game but one in 2008. 8-)

If we at least schedule a poor D-1AA team instead of D-II Mary Sisters of the Poor State University we may get all sell outs in 2008.

I was actually banking on the Gateway giving us a home game for the deer opener....against Indiana State ::)

Was at the press conference this afternoon, Coach Bohl called it "Operation Sellout". Also, someone asked "UND is having a playoff game this saturday, but it seems like this SDSU game is trumping that..." Coach Bohl interjected, saying, I do not pay attention to UND, I do not even know who they are playing this week, where they are playing. Then the question was repeated for him to clarify the actual question. All Coach Bohl said was, "Division 1 atheletics"

I cut and pasted the information below from the release on GoBison.com. Based on the numbers that were provided earlier in this post, a 16,000 fan average would break the season attendance average of 15, 629 back in 1989 and should put NDSU solidly in the top 10 nationally in attendance.

This is as close to stats as us old fans will ever get. Let's break the season average record and finish the season in the top 10!

North Dakota State University’s football program ranks No. 11 in NCAA Division I-AA attendance figures with an
average of 15,708 fans after four home games at the Fargodome in 2006. The Bison are 4-0 at home in 2006
and stand 19-3 over the past four seasons at the Fargodome. NDSU is 68-14 within the “Friendly Confines” over the
past 14 seasons. North Dakota State was No. 14 last season in NCAA I-AA attendance with an average of 14,160 spectators over
six games.

Annually one of the top draws in the country, the Bison drew a school opening game record of 18,665 against
Valparaiso University in their first NCAA Division I-AA tilt in 2004 Bison won six Division II national attendance crowns including 1987
(14,120), 1989 (15,629), 1997 (12,512),2000 (12,723), 2003 (11,567) and 2004 (13,269). NDSU is on pace to break the school’s average attendance record of 15,629 set in 1989. There were 109,400
fans recorded over seven home dates.

Here is the list of the top 10 attendance schools in Division I-AA in 2006
according to the NCAA: 2006 NCAA Division I-A

I predict we go to 19,050 for this weeks game. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

I know, I know. Dont be so optimistic and start being realistic, FREAK!!!!!! Well i truly believe we can do it. With the hype that has been going around and the coaches working hard to sell it out, 19,050 looks like a good number. In 2000 and 2002 we had 19,020 and 19,042 for the game against you know who. This is for the Dakota Marker and for the GWFC Title. I expect a boat load. ::)
