The NDSU Bison football team hosted the St. Cloud State Huskies at the Fargodome and lost to them, 31-7. This capped off a miserable 2-8 season for the Bison. NDSU hadn't seen a season that bad since the early 60's.
Attendance for that game was 6,768.
I remember listening to that game online at my old home in Minneapolis. I had already decided to transfer to NDSU. It wasn't that long ago. I actually had a cable modem at that time. So it wasn't ancient history by any means. I was 1 1/2 years removed from high school. I was close to getting my AAS degree in tech school. I could probably remember most of what happened to me in the year 2002. That year was anything but ancient history to me, or probably anyone else.
Point is, think about how much this program has grown over the past FOUR YEARS. We barely averaged 10,000 per game that year. We were neck-and-neck with UND as far as attendance averages go. We were one of the worst teams in DIVISION II. We were actually a laughingstock.
Fast forward to the third week of November, 2006, and we're 9-1 with our lone loss to Minnesota by one point on a last-second blocked field goal, a win over I-A Ball State, we're #4 in the nation in DIVISION I-AA, averaging 15,708 over four games, and a very good chance of selling out 19,000+ for Saturday's game against South Dakota State to play for the conference title and the Dakota Marker trophy.
A lot can change in four years.
