The NDSU Bison football team hosted the St. Cloud State Huskies at the Fargodome and lost to them, 31-7. This capped off a miserable 2-8 season for the Bison. NDSU hadn't seen a season that bad since the early 60's.

Attendance for that game was 6,768.

I remember listening to that game online at my old home in Minneapolis. I had already decided to transfer to NDSU. It wasn't that long ago. I actually had a cable modem at that time. So it wasn't ancient history by any means. I was 1 1/2 years removed from high school. I was close to getting my AAS degree in tech school. I could probably remember most of what happened to me in the year 2002. That year was anything but ancient history to me, or probably anyone else.

Point is, think about how much this program has grown over the past FOUR YEARS. We barely averaged 10,000 per game that year. We were neck-and-neck with UND as far as attendance averages go. We were one of the worst teams in DIVISION II. We were actually a laughingstock.

Fast forward to the third week of November, 2006, and we're 9-1 with our lone loss to Minnesota by one point on a last-second blocked field goal, a win over I-A Ball State, we're #4 in the nation in DIVISION I-AA, averaging 15,708 over four games, and a very good chance of selling out 19,000+ for Saturday's game against South Dakota State to play for the conference title and the Dakota Marker trophy.

A lot can change in four years.

Can't forget that was one year in the last ah say 40 years or so. I say 39 out of 40 isn't bad.

That was my first fall of school and I was kind of caught off guard because everything I'd ever heard about NDSU was them being a D-II juggernaut. A dark chapter in a storied history for NDSU football, but thankfully we are well past that time period.

More of a footnote than a chapter. ;)

Regardless of what you call it, it wasn't befitting a program of NDSU's stature.

I think it was a great benefit. Babich is now gone, and Bohl is here. ;D

I know it was popular to hate on Babich when he was coach (often times rightfully so), but you have to give him some credit for a couple of things. 1.) He made a major offense scheme change and did so fairly smoothly. Just look at GSU's problems this year. 2.) He had some exceptional recruiting classes with DII scholarships (I believe he was able to recruit a pretty good QB that's still here today! :) ) Here's his last recruiting class http://www.bisonville.com/zn000111.html.

That being said I think he lacked the ability to get the most out of his talent via gametime decisions and motivation. So the timing to move on worked out best for both parties.

Yes......you can't kick on that recruiting class one bit! Thanks for the reality check!

Actually that recruiting class for 2003 was even better than that because they brought in two transfers: Tony Stauss and Allen Burrell.

Mike Dragosavich, WR. Still kind of amazing to me.
