FARGO, N.D. – For the second time this season and the second time in the school’s Division I era, the North Dakota State wrestling team is ranked among the nation’s top 25 programs in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll. The Bison are ranked 25th in the latest poll released on Tuesday.
NDSU posted a 22-15 win at No. 14 Wyoming on Jan. 27 for its third dual victory over a ranked opponent this season. Wyoming was 24-1 since 2008 in Western Wrestling Conference duals prior to the loss to the Bison.
NDSU also defeated No. 24 Boise State on Nov. 16 and No. 25 Old Dominion on Jan. 12.
In addition to the team ranking, NDSU continues to have two wrestlers ranked among the top 10 in the nation in their respective weight classes. Junior Steven Monk is ranked No. 6 by both Intermat and Amateur Wrestling News at 165 pounds, and senior Trent Sprenkle is No. 10 at 125 pounds in both polls.
The Bison (7-7, 2-0 WWC) will take on No. 20 Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, in what will be NDSU’s eighth dual against a ranked opponent this season.
