Oakland Grizzles -------------------------------------------------------------------North Dakota State Bison
Record: 7-11 (2-2) ----------------------------------------------------------------Record: 14-3 (5-0)

The Bison welcome Coach Greg Kampe and the Oakland Grizzles to the BSA on Saturday Janurary 12th. Tip off is set for 4pm central.

From GoBison.com-

ABOUT OAKLAND: The Golden Grizzlies were 7-10 overall and 2-1 in The Summit League heading into Thursday's game at South Dakota State. Junior guard Travis Bader is the top returning scorer from last year's 20-16 team that placed third in the league with an 11-7 record. Bader is 25th in the nation with 19.6 points per game and is fifth with 3.8 three-pointers made per game. Six-foot-10 center Corey Petros is averaging 12.8 points per game and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game including 3.1 on the offensive end. Providence transfer Duke Mondy is third in scoring with 12.0 points per game and with 51 steals ranks seventh nationally with 3.0 steals per game. Greg Kampe (Bowling Green, 1978) has a 497-359 record in his 29th season as head coach at Oakland.

The Bison will also honor the football team at halftime. Hopefully the weather cooperates for a big crowd. Oakland is a dangerous team who really needs a win. Its important to protect the home court, so lets get to the BSA and cheer on the HERD!

Go Bison!

Speaking of cold, what was the temp like in the BSA last night? At which altitude?

In the mezzo-temperate zone which starts at or about row 15 of the east side, it was actually pretty comfortable. I would imagine that SlickVic was roasting up there in the tropical highlands.

so we need to bring sauna rocks??No, those are provided. Mine, for example, are attached*. Bottles of water are recommended if only to provide temporary relief. Bath towels required on East Side. Kermit, please confirm whether or not they're needed on the upper West Side. My sources tell me "optional", which is a contributing factor to my seats being on the East Side.

* - Mrs. Tatanka lets me take them out of their storage box on occasion.

Oaklands losses include:

Boise St- not a bad team this year and gave Wyoming its first loss with 4 of their main guys out
Pitt- in OT
Michigan St.
Tennessee
Ohio- made the dance last year
West Virginia- not as good as years past but still
Alabama
And two conf losses to SDSU and WIU

they play a tough schedule. could be a tough game but i think we win by 10. petros is 6-10 and has had a good year thus far and bader is a tough matchup

I learned quickly when I first started doing football how good even the "bad" officials are. First they know so much more about the rules than we do. Then you add in the philosophies and mechanics and experience. They do make mistakes but never as many as we think. Oddly most of the mistakes they make the average fan doesn't realize.

I seriously do encourage anyone to try it. It's good side money and you may find something you love. Any sport is fine (even soccer). Cross country officials steal money. Shoot the gun to start the race. Get on golf cart with AD and ride to finish line. Rule on any close finishes. 45 minutes. $50. Thank you very much!

I didn't think it was possible to absolutely control the game against Oakland and have a nice win and feel like we lost by 100. Injury makes me sick.

Tray was special tonight. His lenght is causing all sorts of problems. At this point, I would probably take a split on the road next weekend.

Kermit....what do you think? Can he come back for the Summit League Tourney? Or as McFeely called it the Summit Playoffs. He tweeted that it is too bad because we had a chance to win the conference. Well, we still do.

First non football NDSU event of the season....good time need to hit the free throws and we win more comfortably, Trayvonn was shooting the lights out and the blocks were good, noticed a couple time we probably should have drove the lane rather than dish it out but overall great time, crowd was a little slow tonight though.

Future looks bright hope Braun can heal up quickly and it's not a bad/big break

HoopsBison
01-13-2013, 01:34 AM
Well we cant lose LA now or get in foul trouble in a game as Braun was pg when LA wasnt in. Going to take a group effort to pick up his production. LA will lead this team, luckily for us Tray is really starting to play great consistently. Hes always been capable but some games he would not show up. I have no doubt Tray will step up the kid is really coming into his own. Felt will need to be more confident in handling the ball. Kading and Vandenbergh will also be key components. Maybe it opens up opportunities for Zastrow or Aaberg.

Will be interesting to see what Saul does with the starting line up. Do we plug in felt and lose that fire power coming off the bench. Do we move Tray to the three and play two bigs in Kading and Bjorklund, maybe he goes with Vandenbergh.

Anyways thinking of Taylor and hoping for the best and if it is a break quick and healthy recovery.

didn't have much issue with the refs tonight, seem to call a pretty fair game... Losing Braun is a punch in the gut. Hope it's something they can get fixed up in time for the tournament... looked like it was on the side of the foot as that was where they were checking it. My guess must of sort of happened on his fast break as it was a possession after that is when he went out, don't know if it happened precisely then though. Saul seem to indicate that he said he wasn't sure when/how it happened. Most places I look on the internet say 6-8 weeks, a problem is the foot is the end of the line for circulatory system so not much blood flow there to help healing process.

I don't know what bone or bones were broken in his foot, so take this for what it's worth. I broke 3 bones on the top of my foot playing football as a lineman. I don't know what bone or bones were broken in his foot, so take this for what it's worth. I broke 3 bones on the top of my foot playing football as a lineman. I came back around 6 weeks, but I was walking on it after 3 or 4. But basketball I"m guessing is a bit harder on the feet. I'm hoping Braun will be back this year.

The good news is the Bison held off Oakland without Braun for about 8 minutes. Hopefully everyone can step up a bit until he gets back

Hypocrisy: Saying the students need to get up and make some noise while you are sitting down not making noise.
Except I wasn't sitting down not making noise.

Read Saul's quotes in the paper. I didn't realze we were top 45 RPI in the country. I see this team battling through Braun's injury until he gets back.

We have a great pg and big man so that will really help us. Tray is really coming on as well. My biggest worry is about ball handling, we are now really thin there. LA already plays the whole game so dont expect to change but I think the Bison will see a lot more traps/pressing. Felt/Brown are going to have to step and become better ball handlers and be smart while Braun is out, might even need Zastrow to give a couple minutes.

Would be huge if we could steal either the WIU or SDSU game on the road.

Nobody can replace Braun so it is going to be a team effort. The team has played well without Braun at times, we did close out the Oakland game and we did beat Youngstown State in OT without him. Huge test will come on Saturday vs WIU.

the braun injury sucks. as has been mentioned it takes away one of our main ball handlers, which we lack in that area. i could see saul play with the starting lineup a bit depending on the opponent. i can see a lineup with kading starting at 4, moving wright to the 3. i can also see one with felt coming in as a 3rd guard. this changes us a little. it gives opponents to put their likely best defender elsewhere. there are some good players at the 3 spot in the summit and thats usually who braun guarded. obviously it changes what we do on both sides of the floor but we can definitely overcome it. the three consistent scoring options we had were huge for our improvement. i like the way wright has played lately, this is an opportunity for him and also brett vandenburg.

Intersting interview with Kampe....he talks about who the favorites are, what it will take to win the league and brushes on the Braun injury a bit as well...
