I think you're missing a couple games from this year. That record indicates NDSU only played 12 games in 2012. Looks like it should be a couple more conference wins.

Yep. Thanks.
I'm old and easily confused. Corrected post #1.

So is winning good? If winning is good, why don't teams like UNI and SDSU do it more often?

The non-NDSU MVFC teams tend to fold early in the playoffs. How can that be viewed as strength? Even the Big Fluffy does better than that.
I was thinking along similar lines. Since joining the Valley, what non-conference teams has NDSU lost too:
2012: Nobody
2011: Nobody
2010: Eastern Washinginton (in OT to National Champions)
2009: Sam Houston State (45-48) and Iowa State (17-34)
2008: Wyoming (13-16)
Of course, NDSU doesn't usually schedule tough non-conf FCS teams for the non-conference - although Wagner, Robert Morris, and Sam Houston all made the playoffs within the last five years.

I actually pre-prepared for this response.
a few neutralizers to the "cupcake" portion of the mini-study.
a) 3-0 ON THE ROAD to FBS teams included in the non-conference success numbers. COMBINED SCORE: NDSU: 64 FBS HOSTS: 34
b) margin of victory over the Bob Morris', Wagner's, etc is in the "ass whuppin'" category.
c) more than legitimate opponents during the three years of the playoffs.

I have the MVFC as the top conference in the country. If NDSU and SDSU weren't in the Valley, I'd have the conference behind the SoCon, CAA, Big Sky, and Southland.

Yes and no. Usually it's 1 team from each that makes it. Last year it was Montana, this year it was EWU. MSU is a playoff disaster and there is nothing else.
Last year for the MVFC it was UNI, this year it was ISUr.

Well, in ISUr's defense, they beat Appalachian State at their place. SDSU destroyed the OVC champ. Not a bad showing by the MVFC.

ISU Red showed up, man. It's not that easy to win at App. State.
UNI, on the other hand, has been a playoff embarrassment to the league in recent years.

Yeah it isn't having to play a game at App State and then turnaround and play at EWU. ISUR definitely showed up, they just had a tough road.
