Should be some great games.

I do think NDSU has a more complete team. I also think SDSU has Nate Wolters and a plethora of 3 point shooters that makes them capable on any given night.

I can't wait for the Jacks games this year. I obviously really like what I saw against Omaha and as was mentioned above, think the team is so balanced that the Jacks are going to have a difficult time matching up.

This is awesome, our team has yet to prove themselves in March, but I like the way we are starting out this season. Team efforts game in and game out. Like I said to start the year I like the matchup of Kory Brown on Wolters, think it can slow him down enough to give us the upper hand.

Weber State actually is the best team in the Big Sky, for those of you who watch the NBA you might be familar with Damian Lillard who attended Weber State Last year and was a very high pick in this last NBA draft.

The big sky is pretty terrible this year in MBB, they have couple really god awful teams. I think they 3 out of the 11 have records above 500. 7 of the 11 teams sport record of 2-5 or worse.

reformed, do you know in laymen's terms what the difference is between the Sagarin and RPI models?

sagarin is similar to a regression type model that gives a best fit strength (predict score) result based on previous results. The scores assigned by that model are those which minimize the differences between actually score differences and predictive score differences.

RPI takes .25 of your record, .5 of your opponents record, and .25 of their opponents record, and then gives them as a percentage of the maximum possible points, if i understand it correctly.

Just being on the same court as teh rest of the Summit League will cause the RPI to go down faster than...

well, you get the point. Yes, there will be some help from our non-con opponents (with one huge counter-example sitting in the bottom five) and their opponents, but fact is the Summit League is a millstone for RPI.

EDIT: the counter-example is now at RPI 341, which is bottom-seven, not bottom-five. Just wanted to be accurate.

Even the 15 - 17 would be a huge jump, unless lots of teams above lost, and depending on who they lost to.
Definitely should move up, but 3 spots puts NDSU at 19.. We will just have to wait and see....

The Bison are all the way up to #44 in today's Pomeroy rankings: http://kenpom.com/

New Mexico, the team SDSU defeated recently for their win of the century is right behind NDSU at 45. The ratings are designed to be predictive and an explanation is found here (http://kenpom.com/blog/index.php/weblog/entry/ratings_explanation).

I think the single factor that best explains NDSU's surge in these rankings is their consistency of effort. There just have not been many letdowns so far this season.

Just imagine where we would be in polls without that loss to Green Bay.
