We've talked about this thread before so I found as many pics as possible. Found most on Bison Illustrated. Please post any pics you may have. They don't have to be fancy pics... a drunken picture that's blurry will do just fine. The pics below are professional ones. Also I found a ton of pics on Sign A Rama's facebook page... claim them if they are yours!

Da Bison Ranch - Commissioned in 2009.

2189

Last game of the year 2009, about 10 minutes prior to the outlawing of 60 foot flagpoles at the West Lot.

2191

In the "Rain Forest" 2010.

Apparently I screwed that up. I would have posted the photos full size, but do not know how.

Anyway, the above is an old Itasca Pop Up Camper that has be upgraded to the ultimate Bison Pop Up Camper. The covering was installed from TRS Industries in Fargo, and was the signage was put on by Signarama. It has a Beer Pong table that is illegal to use in the West Lot, but not in Brookings. I also run a large Subwoofer/Amp and Outdoor Speakers with a deep cycle marine battery that is connected to the campers power inverter. The stove and sink both still work. I can cram everything for tailgating inside except for the patio heater and coolers which go in the back of the truck.

I put it in operation in 2009.

LOL, whoops. I get sidetracked so badly on that bus...or it could be the alcohol. Come back and talk to Mitch(#3, as opposed to #2 that AG is..) about a shot. He's usually unflappable when it comes time to pour one haha. But for real, we'll take like 5 this week then. We have perfect shot spouts now so its nicely mixed for once.

I saw that old station wagon last game. I think it's my favorite right now, just because it's unique. I love the firetruck too, but it's just not that practical.

I can say with absolute certainty we have a bigger and better tailgating scene than the Minnesota Gophers and Colorado State. This is probably 5% of what's out there.

On this note, I actually feel like playing a game like this slows down my drinking - considerably. As does most drinking games...I just like the social/competitive aspect of the games.

Definetely did not have water, and security was nowhere to be found.* It wasn't beer pong they played, I think they called it Ladders. It was hybrid of beer pong, tippy cup, and boat race all wrapped into one.

Well I've only experienced the cruiser once this year and yes it was absolutely nuts which is why I was disappointed in what they showed. I've been telling anyone who will listen to me here in Montana how fricken awsome tailgating at NDSU is and this could have became the evidence necessary to prove it.
Several whistle blowers from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) were on-site throughout filming. Lol.

But really, yesterday was as much fun as I've had tailgating for a home game, even though it rained all day. Really starting to appreciate the changes they made more than I thought I ever would. The grass would have made a huge mess.

I would agree. Went into yesterday thinking it was going to be a bit more of a subdued tailgate. Was probably our craziest. Awesome time. Only casualty was an iPhone that went missing. The pavement was great to have yesterday.

FOR SALE: This. 1990, Chevy G-20. Appx. 160,000 miles (100,000 on this engine), 350 ci, less than 3,000 miles on the tires. Rebuilt tranny and rear-end about 50,000 miles ago. Starts a little rough (great battery!), but runs great once warmed up. I took out the old TV/VCR combo, otherwise the interior is the same as from the factory, including the stereo. 4 captains chairs and a rear bench seat. Road trips it has been on include Gophers, Norther Iowa, Ames, and Kansas -- absolutley no issues on these trips.

Comes with your own, Bisonville tagline on the side...as long as you go by "runtheoption." :) Pretty sure Custom Graphics could fix that pretty easily -- they are the ones that put on wrap back in 2008. I live out in Harwood if anyone wants to take a look -- I keep it in my garage year round. PM me if interested.

True story. Two dogs got loose and into the NDSU Barn. Not sure of the breed but some sort of sled dog type.

Jack and Sandy were talking about it. That idiot Sandy asked if the dogs would be put down and Jack said of course not. Really? Every homeowners policy I've looked at covers dog attacks ONCE. You would have to be a flipping idiot to keep them around. I suppose a new home could be found but that might be the only other option.

Just make a fake tailgating pass good enough to get you in the reserved lot. You would have your pick of about 30-40% of the new reserved lot since those spots aren't being used. This would be very tempting except you must remember what happened to Endzone and Badlands when they broke the rules at the dome:nod:

Here's a question I wonder:

Why does everyone think you need a big rig to tailgate? Is this American materialism run amuck? Wouldn't that money be better spend funding the charitable work of the Rev. B0b J0hns0n? Discuss.

I need a big trailer to haul my sausage. Any other questions?

Exactly. It's an extremely limited market.
1) NDSU fans. (the average casual fan won't buy it which brings you to #2)
2) hardcore NDSU fans. (not for all hardcore fans either which leads us to #3)
3) NDSU fans who tailgate (believe it or not, not everyone does)
4) NDSU fans who want to purchase something in a group. (Odds are they don't want to eat the cost themselves, group type deal)
5) NDSU fans who either have a reserved tailgating spot or willing to get in line early to ensure they get one (if you can't get in the tailgating lot it's kind of worthless)

On top of it, they have to go out and find a place to park the thing, register it, and maintain it. When you have a group it's sometimes a challenge to see who pays for what.

The tents sold at Scheels are pretty worthless for our tailgating conditions. The frame is too flimsy for our wind. The plastic parts get brittle and break easily in the cold. The sides have just a few velcro straps that don't stay in place very well. Only thing good about them are the NDSU logos.

They group next to us didn't even get their tent frame completely opened up and the wind came and snap half the legs. 5 Minutes into tailgating and they no longer had a tent. Ours may take a few more minutes to set up but the wind is not going to damage it.

Not to shit on you giving a dish away, but it's not always the easiest to set up the tripod to see the satellites. Skip the tripod and just get a Tailgater, you plug it in and it's setup within a few minutes as it automatically finds the satellites.

My friend has one of those, I about spit my beer out when he told me what he paid for it. Of course, he's kind of a baller but only using it for about 30-40 hrs a year didn't quite justify it for me. :)

This is free, if she can't get it to work, she can throw it out so I don't have to!

We paid like $350 or so for ours. IMO, of course, easily worth the investment of being able to plug it in and forget it. Unfortunately, ours blew off the roof last year so we have to replace it, but it's worth it to have games on TV every Saturday. Plus, then I can use it at the cabin in the summer too.

Heres some stuff on the Grizz agenda that some guys have planned for us-----

Griz vs. Bison Schedule Of Events

Decided just to start a new thread so the schedule would be in first post on the thread.

Here's the lay out for Thursday night through Kickoff on Saturday.

---------------THURSDAY---------------
Double Front Chicken @ 6:30p Mountain on Thursday 08/27/2015::
https://goo.gl/maps/cv72g

Double Front Chicken for a meet up on Thursday night with Griz and any Bison fans that can make it. We will be in the basement (bar) of this fabulous little Chicken house starting at 6-7p.

---------------FRIDAY---------------
Charlie B's/Dino Cafe @ 11:30a Mountain on Friday 08/28/2015:
https://goo.gl/maps/GxN05

Friday at 11:30a there will be a lunch gathering at the Dinosaur Cafe which is inside the magnificent Missoula landmark known as Charlie B's. Don't show up late or you will be ****ing yourself out of some good eats because you will put yourself in a long line and you don't have that kind of time to spare...trust me. It's just a couple blocks from Double Front as well.

---------------
Red's Bar @ 12:30p Mountain on Friday 08/28/2015:
https://goo.gl/maps/iOf7S

Immediately after having some really solid comfort food the fun shifts over to Red's Bar in beautiful downtown Missoula. If I need to explain Red's Bar you are a newb or a rube and in either case you should just keep yer mouth shut and go along and pretend you know about it. It's only one of the best and most fun places on earth. This is where we will be hopping on a Griz party bus to do a tour of some breweries and then take a run by the stadium and get a look at a few things around the Athletic Dept.

The bus ends about 5p and after that the plan is just a free for all so you NDSU folks can grab a Mo Burger and have some beers at the downtown pub crawl which involves many, many bars.

---------------SATURDAY---------------
Tailgates starting @ 9:30s Mountain on Friday 08/29/2015:

Ok, this is it, this is what we've all benn waiting for. This is your chance NDSU fans to come grab a seat in the finest, loudest, coldest, bestest stadium this country has to offer. You will feel proud to be an American once you enter vernerable Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Just before that though we will raise some plastic cups together and then at 1/2 time we will again raise some cups. We're not the sort of folks that think we need to hold ya hostage at 1/2 time.

You can pre party at almost any bar in Missoula and they will have a bus to take you to the game. The buses leave the bars about an hour and a half before kickoff normally but if you just want to head right to the stadium that is where the fun will be getting rolling at around the apointed time above.

Here are some friends of AGS and their tailgat locations. They will be happy to see you if you stop by to say hello. You are all welcome to come by the one marked with my username and have some food and beer on me and my friends at the Otis tailgate. The map below has the two tailgates as well as several other key lacations for you to set your bearings with.

Finished another addition to our trailer in time to tailgate (at home) for the Montana game. We have a side awning on our trailer, so we built a little table that sits on a pair of locking hinges and some drawer slides so that it can fit into that opening when the awning is up. Still some tweaking needed for the mechanism, but we're close to finishing it up.

To finish it off we gathered up some pictures, ticket stubs, the license plate for the old Green Monster/Machine (RIP) and set them into the tabletop using a bartop epoxy. Our first time working with something like that so it isn't perfect, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Those of you who have some of the nice buses and other large setups, how do you keep it all operating from year to year? For a few years now our tailgate group has thrown around the idea of setting up an LLC and funding it with the idea of getting an RV, bus, trailer, etc. We have 7-10 who say that they would (and I know that they could) pitch in to buy anything from small enclosed trailer to a full blown greyhound, but simply buying the vehicle I think will be the easy part. Once you own something what does everyone else do to keep that vehicle functioning and the group together and (mostly) happy long term?

How do you have the group organized, how do you keep people contributing, what does it cost to operate one of the larger vehicles for a year (maintenance, fuel, license, insurance) etc.? How many people are in your group, how many is too many? How do you keep things "even"? What works, what doesn't? Do you charge something similar to dues to fund everything, make improvements, etc.?

As you can see, I've got a million questions and am looking for suggestions and experiences so that before we do anything, we know exactly what we're getting into and how best to keep it together long term.

I don't have experience first hand, but if you have a few people that want to be involved I would set it up as a LLC with memberships. You pay dues to be a member, there is no ownership to anything, and if and when it dissolved, you donate all proceeds to teammakers from the sale of the rig. You set up how many want to be members, you don't let anyone donate anything unless their donation equals a certain number of years as a member, and in the end, everything belongs to the LLC. Have a board and membership gives you voting rights on board members. Or in the end, only the remaining members can cash out on proceeds. Either way, you make the membership fees equal to what everyone would contribute across the board. If you accept members later, you either have no equity stake members or you allow them to buy up to existing levels. Bank the membership fees for future improvements, fuel, maintenance, insurance, etc. If some want to let the group use equipment but don't want to give up ownership, then set up lease agreements for the time it will be used to cover damages and usage costs for that purpose.

The key to it all working is getting the group to take ownership of the group, not feel like they own the equipment. The LLC owns the equipment. It creates a buffer for later when people think they have a vested interest in equipment. It is the group that has the value, not the material things in this case. The LLC can buy and sell equipment to enhance the experience, the group funds the LLC. It is the end game that will create issues if there isn't a good game plan for how the group is allowing the LLC to be the equipment owner in all of this.

That is how I would do it. People will always come and go. In fact, you could have it set up with a membership and cap it at x amount of members and each own a share with a value placed on it. New members can only come in by buying an existing member out of their share. So 20 shares at an initial investment of $X each with an annual membership fee of whatever amount. Then they are guaranteed 1/20th of the LLC. If there is ever an end, it is 1/20th returned to whoever owns a share. Again, you could have equity shares and non-equity shares with different membership privileges. A lot of different ways you could do it.

We pay $450/year for insurance on our coach. License is another $150 (We have it titled as an RV so you don't need a CDL with passenger endorsement to drive it)

After doing this for 7 years now with a larger group, I'll give you two nuggets of information from my experience...

1) The material assets are easy, just throw money at it. The difficult thing is dealing with the day to day operations and trying to get everyone to make the commitment of their time and not just their cash. Who is going to make sure the gear gets to where it needs to be every week and set up? Who is going to ensure the finances of the group stay current and things stay on budget? Who is going to be available to deal with broken equipment? Who deals with the calls from Pat Simmers complaining about people you don't tailgate with who happened to be standing in spots with your name on them? Be sure to place a monetary value on people's time with coming up with each individuals monetary share of the endeavor.

2) Things change. Make sure your group is willing to change according to the needs of the group. As time passed, our group is now spread out from Red Lodge to MSP. Though we love our coach, current circumstances mean it probably makes sense for us to take a substantial loss on it to transition to an enclosed trailer setup that will fulfill our new needs.

Thanks this is exactly what I'm looking for. The part money part I think we could get figured out, and we've talked about doing the LLC thing already to start saving for some kind of large tailgating accessory, food, bigger tents, etc. so we might do that anyway. The part that is scary is if we are to make the leap to a vehicle, all the "stuff" that comes with it that you're referencing. We're all in our early 30's, have (or starting to have) little kids and we're spread out from Devils Lake to Stillwater, so the ones in Fargo are already doing a lot of extra work sitting in the ga line every week, cooking the entree, setting up the site, etc. and that would just grow with a vehicle (even though it would be really nice to have on cold days and for away games). Maybe a trailer with a good wrap, a bigger tent, and more heaters is really all we need for now.

Like other people have said, toughest part is getting everyone together to work on it, etc. Especially tough in our group is the varying levels of skill sets, as some are better at other things than others. Seems to help knowing most of us sort of have our role, but it means a lot of late nights and frustration for some of us that have to do the actual fabrication, etc. This was probably our best year overall IMO, not a lot of issues, most everything worked right, and everyone had time and did their fair share. Money was easy to grab from everyone as we added things or racked up charges.

We have been through some changes as a group for sure. Lost people, added, lost, added again...hell we were going to stop tailgating after the 2013 year but decided to keep going.

Honestly, a key to keeping everyone happy and locked in during a long season(these playoff runs really drag it out) is to take a week or two off. We might pick a week we are all tired, boring game, etc and we just end up tablegating and walking over closer to game time to see other friends. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to get burnt out when there are 2 or 3 weeks in a row with games, whether home or away. Don't be fooled - it is quite a commitment...especially when people start expecting your rig to be there as sort of a de facto home base.

MNLonghorn10
12-21-2015, 10:22 PM
yep. we take a couple games off. thats key..this year it was USD & WIU. this last 3 playoff game stretch is tough with game tickets, booze, tailgate spots easily going over 600 bucks.

also if youre getting a rig...you need to have a place to store it 97% of the calendar year...whether its at a fellow tailgaters shop, a space you can rent which costs money, whatever...also having someone knowledgeable with diesel engines in your group is helpful in case something goes bad and you dont have to pay for wrench work(100 /hr) at a shop.

MNLonghorn10
12-21-2015, 10:33 PM
another thing you pointed out...your fargo people are really gonna have to commit. sounds good in jan or feb. but 3 outta 4 weekends is tough wh essentially your weekend revolves in bus sitting...tailgating, goto game and then getting the bus out afterwards...either after the game or on sunday. that becomes a little PITA

Our group of six formed a LLP and not a LLC. The group has it's own checking account and every body puts money in once a year unless a large unexpected bill comes up (old buses can sometimes be a money pit) then we may put a little extra in. One of the wives is the treasurer and handles all the bills. Really for six people things go pretty smooth and I would not trade the memories we've had for anything.

Do you guys have to file any sort of tax return or does the company not show any revenues so there is none?

After much consideration, we've decided that the current geographical footprint of our group does not work well for our tailgating coach. As we move into whatever the next thing for our group is, we will be putting our coach on the market very soon. If you're interested, please PM me and we can talk. We may consider packaging the coach with tailgate gear and possibly even limited use of some prime reserved tailgating spots. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Yeah, unfortunately a bus works for your particular group or it doesn't. When you're spread across three states like we are now, it just doesn't work. If I were you, I'd just buy it anyway. :)

My Dad has been telling me recently of these trailer/campers he's been seeing in Rochester and Sioux City, IA where he's been working lately. He found a couple of Lincraft models from like 1959-61 era and he's absolutely in love with them. Does anyone know the market value of something like that? I haven't scrolled through this whole thread but I'm guessing there's someone that has converted something similar to these into a tailgating rig. I don't think his plan would be to necessarily do that, as he'd like to keep it as original as possible I think. But we could still bring it out there on game day I suppose.

Just have the sit down with them now and tell them that they will not be good enough to play sports in college or make money at it and everything after that that involves sports also involves drinking so they might as well just start tailgating with you now. Plus it is something you can do with them till your really really old and you can even pass on your tailgating prowess to the Grandkids down the road.
