Im up and getting ready to head to the gopher tailgate. I was thinking about what other games people are most interested in watching today while the Bison are off.

I am looking forward to watching the UNI vs Iowa when I get home (DVR-ing it).

I plan on watching/listening to the Gophers, followed by Iowa/UNI (that one could get interesting). I also want to see some of the Virginia Tech / Pitt game at 11. Want to see how good Pitt is to try to judge the YSU win. Florida / Tennessee.

I am at the iowa game. Just pulled in to the parking ramp. Will be interesting to see if UNI can finally beat the Hawkeyes. Iowa seems ripe for an upset considering how shitty they played the last 2 games.

Wow these are the worst defenses I have ever seen. Unbelievable! UND's offense looks good (actually) but unfortunately you can't win anything without a defense. The 35 points allowed in just under a half is more than we have given up combined since the playoffs began last year against James Madison!! And that was against a pretty good group of teams.

UND offense is better than ours though. Maybe it's because they have more playmakers, maybe it's because they have a better O Coordinator, maybe a combination of both. Our D would hold them under 20 though, which is something most, if not all, Big Sky teams won't do this year. Too bad for UND their defense is horrendous.

54% completion percentage, 15 rushes for 30 yards, a pick 6, and their offense is better. Glad you care. I will take a 40 minute time of possession and a butt kicking instead of throwing it 50 times and playing from behind because you can't stop anyone. That is football. Big sky doesn't play the same brand of football.

No question they are better and this new QB is stepping up when needed, but they can't open up a hole for anyone, and other teams will eventually force them to run the ball to be successful. Balance is key at any level.

After listening to Jack Michael's you would think UND won the game because they missed a 4th and 17 by a foot when they dropped back. They lost again. They are 7-0 in moral victories. Offense looked good but this is the words defense I have ever seen. And they have gone up against bad defenses. Portland State allowed 52 today and fired their defensive coordinator . San Diego State has a bad pass defense. They shut down army who threw the ball 8 times. The Mountain West sucks. Poly beat Wyoming today. Obviously CSU sucks. The UND defense is so bad. Its one of the worst I have ever seen. When they play the good teams, they will get a reality check. We would beat them by 4 TDs. Our offense would carve up their defense. Our defense is the toughest they have every seen. Do you know how far back you have to go to see how long its been since we allowed 49 points? We allowed 48 points COMBINED against James Madison, Lehigh, Georgia Southern, Sam Houston, Robert Morris, and Colorado State. All those teams, except RMU, are tough.

Isn't the point of offense to score? Please correct me if I'm wrong......So, the only way to compare would be to go by which team is capable of putting up more points. I think their offense is much more capable of putting up more points than ours. Doesn't mean they are a better team. People get too butt hurt around here if you say anything positive about UND. Agree completely. After another FBS loss (in a weak conference) the Big Undies will be pimping his team. Not sure why after a loss. And you have to look at matchups anyway.

Our offense vs their defense = any team can score 40-50 on UND. San Diego State basicaly ran at will. They ran for nearly 300 and barely threw the ball. Sounds familiar. We dominate

Our defense vs their offense = We have one of the top defenses in the nation on any level. Remember Sam Houstons great offense? Lehigh? FBS Colorado State? We would shut them down, just like we shut down every team. I highly doubt UND's offense is better than every team we faced in the playoffs. UND likes the pass? Our strength is rushing the passer and our corners run 5 deep.

We would beat UND by 4 TD's.

I didn't mean that they would put up more points than us in a head to head matchup What I meant, is if we played the same exact schedule, UND would score more points per game than us. Doesn't mean they would win more, since their defense is horrible. Our defense is incredible. It's how we won a National Championship last year.

What a cluster-f ending to Utah/BYU! Down by three, BYU attempts a pass on 3rd and long with only a few seconds left on the clock. The ball gets deflected and hangs in the air before hitting the ground. The refs let the clock expire and the Utah team and fans rush the field. BYU says there should still be a second left on the clock. The refs review and agree. The fans leave the field. BYU tries a 53yrd field goal to tie the game. The kick is blocked and the fans rush the field for a second time. But they rushed before the play was dead. The refs call a live-ball foul on Utah. 15 yards, automatic 1st down, untimed play. BYU now attempts a 38yrd field goal. The ball hits the uprights and deflects away. The fans rush the field for a third time and the game is finally over.

Good game, the Pick 6 came up to be a big part of the game. This game even as a loss show that UND can be a top FCS team, expecially because NDSU is #1 and they only won 21-7 over a terrible Colorado State team. I think UND would beat NDSU this year, passing offense is just too good.

Haha, UND did just fine tonight. We have some absolute STUDS on O, defense is suspect. I'd like our chances against the team from Fargo this year. We will have to wait til playoffs for a chance though.

NDSU is a good team, but by how their fans make them seems so great is overkill. I think it would be a quality matchup. If they want to bring up National Championships and FBS wins to a team just out of the transition period, then we can brag about how UND has 7 Hockey championships to NDSU 0?

UND played a great game, and had some good defensive plays from time to time, they know their offense is good, now they can focus on their defense

If your goal is to only score 1 more than the opponent you will lose several games. Its called football......the ball is not round and bounces funny. Tipped balls, special teams play, a rare broken coverage, etc. can burn a team and they find themselves down late in a game. It is always good to score as many as you can as long as you make few if any mistakes and your defense is good. I still think NDSU's offense is sub par, as most who are not pure homers would agree. The question is will the defense score points in every game and can the offense rise to the occasion if needed. I have my doubts and think it is a terrible offensive game plan that will eventually burn NDSU during the season or in the playoffs. UND needs to improve their defense a lot.........NDSU needs to somewhat improve their offense.

There is always room for improvement on both sides of the ball. The coaches know that and I would certainly hope the players realize that as well. I don't think our offense is merely designed to score 1 more then our opponents merely that it is designed as a ball control offense that gets a good lead and holds it while taking away the clock needed for the opponent to mount a come back.

Between UND and NDSU, NDSU will have to go through a much tougher conference to earn a play off spot. And I personally do not see UND earning a play off spot with their current level of play the BSC will sort it's self out and UND will be lucky to crack the top 5 in the BSC.

If our defense gave up 500 plus yards in back to back games, Bisonville would explode. Heads would roll. They seem pretty content with the fact that they are passing for alot of yards. I guess that is impressive, or just means that you are losing and can't stop anything. I am shocked they went to Big Sky ball and left their big boy pants in D2. They stopped caring about running the ball and they are having the ball pushed down their throat.

Take a look at the UND boxscore and then the Raiders/Dolphins boxscore. Very similar. Raiders and Sioux were always behind and passed for 50% and a ton of yards while SDSU and the Dolphins had a high efficient passing game and literally ran it down their throat. Do you think Raiders fans are saying "We have an awesome passing game?" "Nobody can match our receivers?" No, they are probably saying, you can't win while the other team kicks your ass. If the Raiders/North Dakota can't run the ball, or stop the run, you can't win. If we ever have to throw the ball 50 time someone better muzzle me. That is exactly how you lose. SD I wouldn't call our offense sub par, it is actually pretty efficient and we take care of the ball. It isn't prolific by any means but it is above average. I'll reserve judgement on UND's offense until I get a bigger sample size, but if they can't run the ball they'll be a .500 team or worse.

Some of you guys (Burgandy) are letting your hate for UND cloud your memory for what their offense has alwas been. UND has never been a big time running football team. They did it to keep you honest. Way back in the day when Todd Kovash was their QB we didn't beat them by stopping the run, things didn't change after he left. They threw for 300+ back than as well. They have never lined up and pounded it at anyone and beat them simply by running the football.

I certainly hope that is not the case.

The style of offense we run isnt made to run up a bunch of points. This year so far we have a better passing game which will open up the O some what. But I certainly wouldnt call our O sub par. It is what it is and they arent going to change it any time soon.

I'm going to get called crazy for this, but UND might be a better football team with NDSU's offense.

Cant argue that. We play a control game. Even though I havent seen the northerners play it sounds as though they air the ball out which doesnt lead to controlling field position or the clock.

It would keep that attrocious defense off the field.

They have had success airing it out but I don't think they really want to play that way. Against Portland State, they rushed it 35 times and threw it 25 times. (they didn't run the ball well at all). Against San Diego, they ran it 27 times and threw it 50 times. (they didn't run it well as they only got 55 yards and they threw it so much because they were behind all the time).

Their fans should be very concerned that they don't seem able to run the ball on offense. Their defense is a mess. They don't seem to be able to stop the run or the pass.

I think UND really wants to run an offense similar to what we do but their defense hasn't allowed them to do it. I believe their O Line is bigger than ours and they would like to have a power running game. So far, they always get behind and it turns into a shootout.

From the media day today....seems like Coach Stig agrees with me. Interesting quote from Brookings today....

“That’s how you win football games,” Jacks coach John Stiegelmeier said. “When you look at score and they look like basketball scores – that’s not good football.”

So both teams had their goalies pulled for the entire game then?

Never thought I'd see the day. Does this mean you're not in charge of personnel (unless the "personnel" is your starting QB who has a concussion)?

Having a big line is fine and dandy but if you cant move the D-Line at all...well then that big line is kind of worthless.

Right now the Bison probably have the smallest (lightest) offensive line they've had in years. I've been very impressed with their athleticism and footwork. Joe Haeg is a little over a year removed from coming in as a walk-on and he has done very well.

I can't discuss the o-line without giving the tight ends and fullbacks some props. Grothman crushes people. Bonnet got called for holding at the end of the 10 minute drive in the 3rd quarter in FoCo. I've rewatched that play over and over. All I see is a sustained block that he finished by putting a guy on his back--questionable call at best.

Speaking of blasts from the pasts in regards to SDSU football.....they are ripping on their own punt returner for fielding a punt inside the 10 yard line......remember when that guy took one on his own 4 against us? Drago was punting....I assume 2007, or I wouldn't care...haha. i said...."not a good football play to field a punt on your own 4." Suddenly their fans agree. It just takes time Kermit...eventually everyone agrees with me. Life is much easier that way. We should hunt and fish together! How about golf and fish actually?

Gee, thanks for the input. ESPN is hiring.

I only pointed it out because it doesn't appear that they have radically changed the players they recruit. Historically, UND has always run more of a pro-style offense and relied on large Offensive linemen. They were doing that back in the days when we were still running the veer.

They would love to be more balanced in their attack. I don't know if their OL is unathletic or just young and hasn't gelled yet. Either way, they haven't shown the ability to consistently run the ball in the last two games and at the end of last year.
