NDSU's Ojuri faces a pair of driving charges, for some reason I think he will be dismissed from the team,I hope not but......... http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/369438/

I dunno. Driving under suspension isn't really that big of a deal. Possessing alcohol in public? That's as petty as you can possibly get. What did he buy a 6 pack and open it?

Who cares. If this is the worst thing our players do in the offseason, we can't complain. What are they gonna do next, see who has the most parking tickets? The article was/is a joke.

I thought the article was great and besides the Ojuri part it was all positive news about NDSU. Kolpack has nothing to do with whether these kids decide to break the law or not. I agree these are minor violations but the concern is he already had to sit out a season and he is expected to be a leader this year with DJ gone. I would not be surprised at a suspension

You have to be smart enough to not put yourself in any situation that may reflect badly on you, the team or the university. Doesnt make any difference how freaking minor an infraction it is. When it involves athletes in this day and age it becomes big.

Before suggesting the charges are minor or should be overlooked, think Penn State or Montana.

This would be strike 3 and 4 for Ojuri. I don't expect to see him gone as the coaching staff set the standard with him a few years ago when he should have been let go. If it was a walk on or non starter that keeps making these same mistakes, no doubt he would probably be gone. When its a starter that is as talented as Ojuri, maybe a game suspension when we don't need him, probably a slap on the wrist.

This is not good. Just because Ojuri can run with a football is no reason to look beyond 2 driving under suspensions and a booze in public ticket. Christ.....TWO driving under suspension tickets!!!!! I sure as hell have higher expectations of our athletes than that. If you ignore this kind of stupidity you run the risk of having a program like Missoula. Ojuri is representing my alma mater, my degrees, my university. He damn well better get his head out of his ass or get out.

Every damn kid at NDSU has walked around in public with alcohol. And driving with a suspended license is like illegally parking in a handicap spot. Some of you guys get your panties all wound up over the smallest things. I know in your head, you’d love to believe that all the football players go to class all day, then go to practice, then study, than call grandma to say hi, then go to a late night church service, then go home and sleep and wake up to do it all over again. First of all, the bolded protion above, IMO, deserves MANDATORY JAIL TIME with no work release (Maybe 30 days). I'd also add public flogging to the punishment. ANYBODY that does that should be beaten senseless.

You are correct about what college kids do. I know what goes on and I don't have a problem with it.... Until they end up on a Police Report and facing trial. Now, this just got real. I trust Bohl to do what is appropriate. I also expect our fans to spin like crazy and make excuses just like we demand heavy penalties if it is ever an athlete from another program.

I suppose with the prior things that happened I could see dismissal, but realistically I would think sit the first 3 games at most (probably only the first) would be the course of action taken here. Might be a blessing in disguise, as then you can really see what a Crocket, Dinwiddie, Jones has to offer.

Wow is all I can say. I am more worried about the lack in judgement than anything else. I am more worried about the driving with suspended license stuff than the alcohol thing. (Many of us have done dumb things like that; but with that said, he should know he has no room for error, while dummies like me did.)

Definitely will have to be a suspension involved. I think Hambone has the right idea. 3 games (which is pretty harsh) and it gives us a chance to see what we have in the stable before the conference season. I am pretty sure hambone has given up his allegence to our Kelly Green friends with good ideas like this.....either that, or he enrolled in NDSU!

If that's the case, I sort of agree. I don't think they suspend licenses for a few speeding tickets though.

If he got it suspended for something more serious, then not so fast. Suspending a license is serious and it is because they want you OFF THE ROAD. People who don't obey that are dangerous. (see wrong way driver on I-94)

I HOPE that Police officers who see a known suspended driver pull them over every time they see them. That's their job.

I echo Aces thoughts, and will add that Craig Bohl put more people at risk with his interstate speeding than Sam did for tinted windows and driving a car with expired tags. If I had to guess, he didn't pay those first tickets, then his license was suspended. After he got the suspended tickets, he paid up the previous infractions. I like Hambone's idea for punishment.

Cops get funding cut, they start busting people for seat belt violations, bullshiat parking fines and shit like tint on windows. Hey police! Ojuri: "Hello officer, did I do something wrong?"
Cop: "I see you have a broken tail light."
Ojuri: "What are you talking about? My tail lights are fine."
Cop: *smashes tail light with his billy club* "Now you got a broken tail light."

Exactly. Now I didn't bend over a girl in front of 30 people (It was only 10 but 3 were in on the orgy anyway so we really only had about 7 on lookers :)) but I sure pulled enough shit as a student that had I been caught, and had I been on an athletic team, I'm sure it would have brought shame to them. This whole thing is driving me crazy. I am afraid we are just spinning our wheels talking about this car-wreck. Nothing like a little pre-season drama to get our motor's running, but we have to keep this in perspective: there is a long road ahead for the Bison & Sam.

It made the news because of the Police involvement. It got even juicier when his attorney requested a jury trial. I really hope that was a tactic to help in working out a plea agreement. We really don't need the distraction of a Jury trial for something like this.

BTW, there was a full year between the original citation for driving under suspension and the second (5-11-11 to 6-06-12). Then he got another a month later. I'm guessing he knew his license was suspended.

People driving with suspended licenses are a pet peeve of mine (I don't care what the reasons are).

I know a guy who forgot to pay a parking ticket. He flat out forgot to pay it and they suspended his license. They claim they informed him by mail but he never got it. One day he gets pulled over and finds out he was driving under suspension. He went to court and they dropped the charge. I know another guy who never even saw the parking ticket. Cant jump to conclusions. Maybe he couldn't get to workouts or catch a ride so he took a calculated risk because offseason workouts are important

Its his responsibility to find transportation to his activities. He should have made arrangements. Very poor judgment on his part.

Part of the Montana problem is that a couple of their FB players with problems with the law were taken to local attorneys by UMontana officials. Those UM officials "asked" the attorneys to take the cases as a "favor" to the Griz FB program that would be returned some day. That's an NCAA violation. If the UM officials had just said they use <name here> as an attorney to the player they'd be fine. It's the "ask" and "favor return" promise (a quid pro quo) that's the problem.

Ojuri has an attorney. Hopefully he found the attorney in the yellow pages. Nobody needs the NCAA snooping around their windows, tinted or not.

Coach has a good handle on previous punishments for breaking team rules. Especially if there are subsequent offenses.

He's already been found guilty of the MIP. Shouldn't take long to figure out the most recent charges. Not sure what the defense is but I hope he has Perry Mason representing him if he hopes to get it dismissed or actually beat it in court.

Read between the lines aces. Clean house when it's appropriate. Take care of the business and move on. If the future involves Sam Ojuri...then do what it takes to clear things up. Let's not dwell on Sam's problems for weeks or months. Let this student-athlete take care of his problems. Concentrate on Bison Football. If Sam can't play, then let's concentrate on those who can. Anyone can make mistakes....

If you were to look back to older posts here...you'd find that I was one of the earliest fans of Sam Ojuri. I still am.

...shit happens. Poop occurs. People make mistakes. Such is life. I hope Sam can get his life in order. He's a human being. Sam has done a lot for the program. Hopefully he can finish school and get a good degree. Best of luck to Sam. I hope that Bohl & Co. handle things correctly. We don't need problems with the ncaa. Wonder who will be our #1 back if Sam can't go. Sam has been stupid. We've all made our share of mistakes. Hopefully Sam can be in the lineup when our conference schedule begins.

Enough cliches?

Agreed...Everyone makes mistakes...Mine was actually responding to one of your posts. Dumb move on my part. Have a nice life.

If Vegas pegged the over/under at 0.5 games, I'd bet the over.

FWIW: Perry Mason would make a terrible real world lawyer.

C'mon people, it's a two way street. Don't let this tint your view of Sam. I think in the end, we will be able to look at this in our rear-view mirror and laugh as we cruise, in top gear, to another championship.

Agree, something like this shouldn’t give people a license to tread on Sam. I think we all need to apply the brakes when criticizing him. Let’s put it in drive and buckle up for a great season ahead of us.

Are you seriously suggesting that Ojuri be dismissed from the team for all of this?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at some of the comments in this thread.

He broke the law, he will be punished accordingly. This will not include kicking him out of school and/or off the football team.

To me a one game suspension, two at the absolute most seems appropriate.

Nope...just sayin' that the Bison need to take care of business...whether it involves a suspension, or whatever. If Sam wants to be our leading RB...then act like a leader. Yeah...I'm a little upset with what Sam's done. I just want the AD & HC to do the appropriate thing. That is all...nothing more...nothing less.

I agree. It's not like he did something really serious like parking in a handicapped spot.

And yes, I was dead serious earlier about that. An able bodied person who does that is the lowest scum on Earth and deserves whatever they get.

Sam's actions DO change how I view him. He can change that by what he does in the future. No different than what anybody else faces.

That's their job.

not really i drive an effin towncar at a couple 13 14 miles an hour no matter what the speed limit is and i got a letter in the mail saying my license was due to be suspended for 1 more traffic violation and alls i got is some stop sign and seat belt tickets which are 100+ a pop i prolly got 6 or 7 of them the state of minnesota should be thanking me for contributing to there surplus not harrasing me cuz i gotta drive 5 miles an hour on the lookout for pot holes or straight up missing parts of main streets

Probably got the violation after the cop pulled him over for a seat belt violation. And don't get me started on those goddamn seat belt violations. It's a racket. Cops get funding cut, they start busting people for seat belt violations, bullshiat parking fines and shit like tint on windows. Hey police! How about you solve robberies or go break up a domestic violence call instead of giving me a $110 ticket for driving though the Ace hardware parking lot without my seatbelt on. And don't act like your doing me a favor by giving me that ticket instead of a no drivers license present. I dropped of a rug doctor at the local Ace hardware. It's literally a 1/2 mile from my house. I was returning it so I didn't even think about bringing my wallet. As I'm driving through the parking lot up to a street the cop passes by me. I see him and put on my seat belt on then turn onto the road. He gets behind me and pulls me over right in front of my house. A$$holes. The whole lot of them.

Yeah try working in the media, you would think my camera was a WMD sometimes. I have met many good law enforcement officers, but year after year they seem to be spewing out more hot heads who know that they can break 90% of the laws and the worst that will happen is paid leave. I hope the FBI continues to investigate corrupt local and state officers and I truly hope we get back to the days where officers were there to protect and serve...........not kill and hide behind their union shield

I will say the "alcohol in public" thing absolutely boggles my mind. No idea how or why this is a law. It's one thing to be some drunk a-hole outside a bar who's giving everybody a bad time, but I had a buddy get pulled over the other day and the cop questioned what he was going to do with the case of beer in his back seat. "Drink it, what do you think?"

I thought the point of repealing the prohibition back in the 20's was so that it was legal to have a drink in public? What the heck. Maybe I'm missing something here.

That was for drinking on private property. There's a lot of state and local laws regarding drinking on public property. That's why there's wet and dry counties in the south, places where drinking is legal in public but requires the container to be in a paper bag, etc.

We were behaving ourselves, walking around with a pop bottle with a little booze in it each and we got stopped. I was like..um..go find some drunk dumbass minors? The repeal was to allow the production and consumption of alcohol legal. There was nothing in the repeal that I know of that said you had the right to consume alcohol in public. Many municipalities have laws regarding where and when alcohol can be consumed.

There was a time for many years in LaCrosse WI if you were caught drinking on a public sidewalk during Octoberfest it would get you a ticket and a trip to jail if you were really hammered. Now they just ask you to poor it out unless youre an asshole then off to jail you go. They made a ton of money back then. In a town with 47,000 people at the time, 250 bars in the town and county, plus the two beer tents, add another 50,000 people who came to town for the 1st weekend it was one hell of a party.

Regardless of the infractions the point is---personal responsibility and making good decisions. He didnt pass the test. Yeah, it's one deal about something most consider minor. Over time they all add up.

The real key to what happens lies in what Coach and Sam already talked about before these last two incidents. If there was a discussion followed by a promise to straighten out, then somebody has a real problem. If this was a surprise to Coach, there might be a bigger problem. Bosses HATE surprises. On a semi-related note, Izzo just tweeted that Bohl is confident Crockett will gain full eligibility soon. What does that exactly mean? Is Crockett able to participate in fall camp?

Funny stuff.

FWIW, if I had a driving record like that, my employer would need to reassign me to a different job or fire me. I'm thinking the latter would happen. Sam's driving record would put me on unemployment.

It all depends on what you do for a living...Some people never have to lease the office or use a company vehicle...I assume you do a lot of driving for work, huh?

That's about it. Company policy is pretty strict about any driving issues. Doesn't matter what MY INSURANCE coverage is because the Company is liable when I'm on the job. This is true whether I drive a Company vehicle or a personal vehicle.

I think a total of three moving violations in three years warrants a documented improvement plan and is the initial step down towards to door. Any license suspension is cause for immediate action (you might survive it but there won't be any second chances).

I drive for work too, but not too often. If I earned a suspended license, I think I would be OK.

I used to work for a large company. I would have to report stuff like that but it wouldn't have mattered since my job didn't require travel . If punishment is to mimic society he should be put on a corrective action plan. No discipline.

Regardless of the infractions the point is---personal responsibility and making good decisions. He didnt pass the test. Plus its all compounded when you are a highly visible athlete that should be leading and setting an example for his teammates. I am more disappointed with the multiple infractions as opposed to the infractions themselves in this case.

I agree with you 73.

Sam will be fine as long as he STOPS ending up on Police Reports. I would think you understand that simple concept but not everybody does.

So far Sam has basically proven that he doesn't think the law applies to him. Why would he still be driving in July after the June citation? I can't think of a logical excuse.

Bohl will handle this. Because he knows the importance of public perception.

Typical thread drift. Slick commented on how his long record of violations means nothing. So there was some discussion of that. I guess you didn't read that.

What matters to Sam is avoiding the Police blotter and staying away from a courtroom. As long as he does that, this all goes away. If not, he won't be playing football.

I have no idea if he will get the message or not. Don't really care if he does. Personal responsibility will be enforced and those that embarrass the program will get the gate. I've heard that from people who decide and not from fans talking about their warped values.

Not really directed at you. Unless you want to make excuses for not obeying the law.

We are paying for his education. I don't want to read about his legal problems in the newspaper. I expect that will either get corrected or he will get lost. Simple.

But let's also point out that it has not been a very good offseason for Big Ten running backs in general.

There was the awful news about Montee Ball today. Michigan's Fitz Toussaint got busted for DUI and was then suspended. Silas Redd left Penn State for USC. Johnson got kicked off Iowa, and Garmon's fate was shaky when he was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. Ohio State's Jordan Hall hurt his foot and could miss the start of the season, while Bri'onte Dunn made headlines with a traffic stop. Purdue's Ralph Bolden got arrested for allegedly forcing a kiss on a woman at a bar.
