Thoughts/Comments
Did I miss something about Montana State? They didn't look very good at all against Sam Houston State.
Kind of looks like the 2007 and 2008 preseason polls.
Consolidated 2011 preseason polls: http://www.collegesportingnews.com/content.php?500-2011-FCS-Consolidated-Preseason-Ranking (NDSU #11, unranked in Sporting News poll, Phil Steele only poll to have Sam Houston ranked)

did athlon college and lindy get a lifetime supply of undefeated season and national championship runner up tshirts from sam houston that they foolishly put them #1?

Fact is, NDSU just doesn't have the speed needed to be #1.

I think Montana State is too high at 3/4 in those two polls. McGhee has been alright in his playoff games, but well below his season averages. In other words, he puts up good numbers against average competition, but up to this point he can't get it done in the playoffs. 1-2 playoff record. His game against New Hampshire was awful. If my memory is right he threw 3 picks in that game. I think MSU will lose at least 2 games in the Sky, EWU and SUU. McGhee isn't a better QB than what EWU has (a SMU transfer) and SUU (Sorenson). With a non counter in Chadron, and Stephen Austin also as OOC games, it will be interesting for them.

Schools the Bison beat last year on their way to the National Championship in green!!!! (bold if met in the playoffs)

Edited the quoted post for a different spin.

Pretty cool that NDSU has already played 11 of the teams in the Top 25 since going DI - also played Jacksonville State, Eastern Kentucky, Montana and Towson in the D2 days.

The more polls that pick other teams in front of NDSU the better our chances repeating as national champions. Hope the coaches and players put every poll that shows NDSU lower than #1 on a wall as they enter the lockerroom. Nice to have some extra motivation.

They better already be motivated, because as national champions, theyll be gettin everybodies best effort.

I'm sure Montana State will get embarrassed in at least one game. There is no chance in hell they'll be 3 or 4 at the end of the year. A joke their ranked that high.

Until the last week where we need to be 1 or 2 so we can lock up home field through out the playoffs.

I am not a big fan of preseason polls except for giving us somthing to talk about in the off season but... anyone ranking GSU ahead of us after the piss pounding we gave them is an idiot.... Also, Bison fans are going to rank YSU higher because it was our only loss last season. I doubt Missouri State fans are ranking the Guins at all!

Originally I wasof the mindset that we're the defending national champion we should be #1 until it's taken from us but it's not that big of deal. If we take care of our schedule we'll be at the top anyway.

theyre probably taking a different approach after getting burned by eastern washingtons 0-4 start or whatever it was last year.

AS long as we are talking about polls; Kolpack has a funny article about the ridiculousness of preseason polls and watch lists.

http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/366963/group/Sports/

One line in the article might hit home a little to some on this board:

It can turn a 29-year-old guy living in his mom’s basement into an FCS expert.

Hey I'm 33 and it's a ranch style home with no basement. And I don't live with my mom. She lives with me. But she pays for the mortage and cooks and cleans but it's only temporary. I'm totally going to get my own place next year. Once I get my 94 Camaro Z28 Iroc paid off.

I am of the opinion that the only reason the Bison aren't rated #1 in the poll is because no where in the MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE wording can you find the words "Colonial" or "Southern".

It's deceiving compared to us. Sure, we lost a bunch of starters, but being a "starter" on last years team literally just meant you happened to be out on the first play of the game. We used so many players, we aren't really losing that much...other than the obvious couple.

How many starters did Sam Houston lose?

Sam Houston lost two OL and two LB , but shouldnt lose much, if any with replacements. Defense could be even better than last year, if thats possible. I thought they were pretty good last year.

Biggest losses would be Travis Watson (center) and Kash David (LB), but again, their replacements saw plenty of action last year. Should be an interesting season with only 3 home games in Huntsville and playing two FBS schools in Baylor and Tx A&M.

Good luck to the Bison.
