Thanks for pointing that out, everything should be correct now.

I also added some youtube videos for both Ortiz and Garrett. Ortiz is from Mike Nelson's former high school Madison Memorial, the announcers in the video I posted mention NDSU right away(Brett VandenBergh and Chris Kading also played in that game for De Pere high school).

In either case, we should have one extra scholarship available for the next class. Nagel and Zastrow would have been the only seniors, so we ought to have two scholarships open. One of the big nasties on the initial post would be legit.

Reid Travis - 6' 7" from Minneapolis DeLaSalle - (2014 interest)

http://www.gopherhole.com/news_article/show/157640?referrer_id=334835

Sounds like quite a national recruit now - offer mentioned now on July 15th
from the Gophers as well as
Nebraska, Colorado (2 Tim Miles' effects (?)
Iowa State, Wash St, Colorado, Lehigh & Haarvard.
With PG Tyus Jones (Apple Valley) also a 2014 recruit for the Gophs, and so highly rated nationally,
would be quite a coup for Minn if Tubby got them both to Williams Arena.

Tyus Jones is not going to Minnesota when he's got his pick of any program in the country. Hmmm, Duke or Team Tubby, UNC or Team Tubby, Mich St or Team Tubby and the list goes on and on.

Yes, all of these offers have been reported by Mark Miller (http://www.wissports.net/article.asp?pageID=1&newsID=23503&sportID=1) on Wissports.net (pay site). He is the definitive source for Wisconsin hoops recruiting just like Travis is for football.

All of these kids are in the class of '14 (rising juniors):

Riley LaChance, guard, Brookfield Central
Jake Showalter (6'2" guard and brother of Zak who will be a Badger this fall), Evan Wesenberg (6'7" F), and LaMonte Bearden (6'1" PG) all of Germantown.
Germantown has built a monster program under coach Steve Showalter (Zak and Jake's dad).

Great to see NDSU continue to recruit Wisconsin hard. With Wisconsin-born guys in Coach Phillips (who is from the town I live in now) and Coach Ryan (who I played against in high school) and lots of WI kids on the roster, NDSU is one of my favorite college hoops teams.

Anyone know how he will fit in? From what I have watched from him, he deosn't seem athetic or skilled enough for the 3. He seems like a true 5. Will we have a 6-5 C playing in the Summit for the next few years?

Dexter is probably a 4/5. I think he was measured at 6'6" when he checked in at NDSU, but he has long arms. I've seen him scrimmaging against guys like Bjorklund and Aaberg. Offensively, he is very skilled. He demands the ball in the low post (maybe better at this than anyone on the current roster) and he is able to get his shot off and score against taller defenders. He is very bulky and difficult to move off the low block. He probably weighs about 260 lb and he is definitely going to need to lose some baby fat and increase his endurance. He seems to have a good attitude and he is fitting in well with his teammates. I think he needs to redshirt and he is a bit of a project, but I also think he has the potential to be a very productive player in the Summit League, especially on the offensive end. Right now, I don't think he could effectively defend a mobile 4-man on the perimeter, but he isn't going to get pushed around in the lane either.

I'm not sure any of them are Big Ten or BCS players right now, but its still somewhat early. None of them were starters for Germantown last year (Jake Showalter did start some games due to injuries however), which tells you just how good that team was. Their second five probably would have been one of the top ten teams in the state.

EDIT: To clarify, Bearden didn't actually attend Germantown last year, he was at neighboring Homestead High School his first two years and transferred to Germantown in the off-season.

Zak Showalter (Badger recruit I think) was at 22 PPG and 6' 9" Luke Fischer (Indiana commit) at 16.6 PPG last season off of the JSO site stats. Jake Showalter - 9.3 PPG - LaMonte Bearden - 8.4 PPG

Right now, I don't think he could effectively defend a mobile 4-man on the perimeter, but he isn't going to get pushed around in the lane either.

that is my concern with him. if he plays the 4 matching up with athletic black guys will be tough

Link to a story about a couple of SD kids with offers. I have been following Severyn from Pierre because he plays in class AA and I knew NDSU was interested. I had not heard of Skyler Flatten prior to this article...looks like we offered to him as well. 6'5'' 200 lb PG. Right now its us, SDSU, USD and Drake.

Like already stated, 6'4", playing QB at 190. Probably a two in college, can hit the 3 off the dribble. Very athletic for ND class B. Valdectorian, mother is a teacher, the whole family is athletic. Older brother triple jumped for Mary. Trevor chose baseball this spring over track. #1 pitcher, batted 4 on the state champion team. He probably would win every jumping event in class B track if he wanted to.
Bohl is supposed to be looking at him also but his 40 time is a little slow. Very unselfish player. Could have scored 30 a game as a junior but bought into the coaches team concept and led the team in scoring ~16 ppg, but 3 other kids also averaged double figures. As QB last night he was blocking 15 yards downfield on a sweep. I hope he gets a shot, if he has enough patience he could contribute at some point.

I get your point, but will counter that ND Class B ball was one hell of an exciting game. Of course, this is back in the day (likely before you were a twinkle in your daddy's eye). The class B I remember was a more exciting game (note, I am not stating better played) than the 3A games I am able to attend today.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to attend North Dakota class B games for quite some time so I am relying on my dementia infested mind rather than current information.

Don't forget about Weber State. They have a history of playing good ball. Been the the Dance numerous times and won a few games, have won many conference championships, and Conference Tournament championships. They also had the #6 pick in the NBA draft last year with Damian Lillard.

I spent 7 years out there and had to go through the muck of it, yes it is not fun basketball to watch. However Montana is good. They have at least won an NCAA game which equals our entire conference.

Idaho State had some good teams back in the day. They have made it to the elite 8 way way back.

Big Sky has a better pedigree only because it's been around alot longer. In comparison to how long the Summit has been around, both are very comparable. A couple real solid teams and a couple real bad teams. Both conferences have sent players to the NBA. Both have 1 tournamnet win. I think the Summit has had a little high NCAA tournament seed (if not comparable), but I would expect a major change of RPI/tournament seed with the loss of ORU.

While Zastrow is the only senior this season, the Bison currently have a vacant scholarship position and they will bring in 2 recruits next fall. AJ Jacobson has committed and the staff is currently recruiting to fill the other spot. The vacancy was created by the departures of Andy Nagel and Dylan Hale from the program. Sounds like a good get for the Dragons. Had wondered if NDSU had any interest. Also had wondered what his sport of choice would be, after being QB for the Spuds. I had also wondered if he was a poor man's AJ, so why go to the same school? Make your own path. NDSU has a lot of young depth there at the SG-SF positions.
I believe Dom said Minnesota-Duluth was the other school interested. Lien was interviewed and said he was interested in staying close to home.

I have been following Aaron Lien for several years and I am a fan. I think he is certainly good enough to play for the Bison, and I believe that he would have had a great chance to earn a scholarship at NDSU after a redshirt year. In the end, Aaron decided to go to MSU-M where he will likely have an opportunity to play significant minutes earlier in his career. I think he will do well there and Coach Walthall is building an excellent D-2 program.

On a side note, I am really excited about AJ Jacobson joining the program next year. He is a really savvy, skilled player who is now 6'6" with broad shoulders. He is the kind of player who makes his teammates better and I think he will be a really important player early in his career at NDSU.

msum is excited for mr lien his nickname shall be "gangsta lien" I know he had a walk on offer from ndsu, but if he blows up even more his senior year saul will regret not offerring him a scholarship. He cant be any worse than zastrow, lundberg who got 4 years of scholarship money.

Lien wasn't competing for scholarship money with Zastrow or Lundberg. There were two scholarships open for next year, and they are going to AJ Jacobson and Carlin Dupree. I know for sure that the coaching staff was very interested in Lien. He may well have been able to earn a scholarship for future years, and I would be stunned if Lien didn't know that. He chose to go with the sure thing and a better opportunity to play right away. Can't blame him for that. I am a big Aaron Lien fan, but even I wouldn't expect the Bison staff to offer him over Jacobson or Dupree--especially because he essentially plays the same position as Jacobson. The timing just wasn't right for Lien to be a Bison.

Have seen them both play.

Lien is good, but there is no doubt Jacobson is the better talent, and more of a D1 player. Throwing in Dupree, you can see why Lien was only offered a walkon. NDSU got both players it wanted before Lien, and both are better prospects.

youd think with only 2 openings theyd be trying to land a better prospect than that kid from shanley especially since he ant even related to the real jacobsons and they probly could have him as a last second resort...i dont know ive never seen him play but im sure hes a good kid from a good family who likes to hunt and fish...i hope richmands got them gangsta lien films on file to show aaberg and bjorkland on a daily basis...speaking of whap town does anybody know if old stus got some prospects up a scinece thats a retorical question obviously because i know the anser is no...but srsly real question has saul ever set foot in the clair t balcre events center since hes been head coach here? miles made millions off that pipeline

What's going on with bigs? We're losing 3 quality bigs after next season and the only legitimate one currently on the roster is Kading (Wenrer is a complete unknown at this point). At this point we have no bigs coming in next year either. Need some quality size to replace Bjorkman, Wright, and Aaberg.

Yeah this is starting to concern me a little too, I did some digging yesterday and I wasn't too excited about what I found, everything I saw is listed on page 1 of this thread and our offering to Michael Finke a 6'9" prospect out of Illinois looks nice, but he also is being recruited by about 7 Big 10 schools and 4 of them have offered already as well so not lookin good there. The other couple guys listed below him Friendshuh and Barnaba have us showing interest but no offer. There's no doubt we are after some talent, I really like a few of the names on that list, but right now it's lookin like we'll be stacked at the PG, SG, SF position and not be left with much beyond that. Kading is great but can't play 40 minutes every game and Werner is a big body that will do ok, but he just can't compete down low like Bjorklund can. I think at least 2 of those 5 scholarships need to go to bigs and I'm not seeing much for prospects right now. It is early as the high school season is barely getting going, but I know I'm gettin a little nervous. If we can break ground on the BSA remodel that should provide an instant boost, if not hopefully we can find a JC player or two to come in and contribute.

Guys, if you think the only guys we are recruiting are listed on Bisonville, you are wrong. Most of the stuff is pretty hush hush because every staff has a guy reading other sites to see what is going on. Maybe we are sick of SDSU chasing us around on kids. I would guess the guys running the team are also aware the Marshall is a Junior and will eventualy graduate. I also hope we aren't in love with the 6'10 post guy, because those guys aren't coming to NDSU. Most post players we are going to get, or even target are going to be 6'6-6'8, just like Vandenberg and Werner are. We have been very fortunate to get some extreme lenght at the wing position with Tray and Taylor, and now even Jacobson who will be with us next year.

Now this is a highlight video. This is the first I've seen of him, but really like what I see. Good ability to handle the ball, can create off the dribble and most of all he's got some serious SWAG. I like players that play with confidence as long as they don't forget about the team. With Lindberg redshirting this year and Dupree coming in and joining Vandenberg and Kading we have a good looking core to build around going forward. Hoping to get another post player this recruiting class. That being said right now all we are doing is reloading as we have everyone back other than Zastrow next season. Can't complain about that.

Very happy we got AJ Jacobson Dupree, but I am curious as to who is redshirting. We only lose Zastrow next year who's a marginal role player. We get Lindberg back, and we also get Werner back with the bigs (who may not play much at all because of lack of need). We have Vandenburg who probably should have redshirted this year, as he isn't making any contributions on the court.

I woul dimagine Dupree will RS, but I cannot imagine Jacobson would play. If Jacobson and/or Dupree could break an 8/9 man rotation, they should play, but then that means someone is going to get a major cut of minutes. LA/Braun/Bjorklund won't. Would Saul cut back Felt/Brown/Wright's minutes considerably? Would he redshirt Vandenburg? Those are who i think would be affected if AJ didn't redshirt.

AJ is multi-talented player but would definitely benefit from a redshirt year to add strength and adjust to college bball. It also would help transition when lose the seniors(juniors this year).

I agree with my main man Silk. With this large group of Juniors, we will really need to reload in the post. With that being said, Kading has really impressed so far in just his Freshman season and we are redshirting a big boy! So it isn't like we are going broke in the bigs, but they don't grow on trees and we need to make sure to keep getting these high end athletes. Carlin Dupree is just a DUDE. Lets get some bigs to run with him. Tray is playing amazing defense right now, and those athletes dont show up much in the BSA. Exciting time to be a hooper junkie. Gameday Silk!!

Kading's been a boss. I think he's far better at this point than anyone of us coulda hoped. Will be fun to watch him progress. Seems like a great kid too.

Just basing off the current class, you have to like the transition into the next era. We have LA for another year and also Linberg with 3 more years after this year. Brown and Dupree can round out the backcourt. Brown's been stellar in a specific role and he looks to have the kind of game that can expand. You have to love a prospect like Jacobson, who has length like Braun and can handle the ball and shoot like a guard. Kading will be real good. I'm not real sure how Werner will fit in if he does, but we just need to get a couple more big bodies. I don't think they have to have a post game although it would be nice, Kading can be effective on offense off the ball.

I think the one concern is if we would be forced to play with 4 guards, but I'm sure the coaching staff will round out recruiting with some bog bodies the next couple years. 4 guards wouldn't spell doom, but we have the kind of young, incoming backcourt players that have a lot of boom potential on an explosive well rounded team.

Silk, I know you know this, but for anyone else reading this LA is a sophomore so he will have 2 more years.

I too feel really good about the future of the backcourt with LA, Brown, Lindberg, and Dupree. I also agree that Kading is a stud and I think AJ Jacobson has the potential to be a really good player in the Summit. We haven't got to see much of a healthy Brett Vandenbergh, yet--but even so he gave us a glimpse last night of how his toughness and defensive ability will allow him to be a solid contributor in even the worst case scenario. Big Dex is a bit of an x-factor, but I think he is more talented than some people here are giving him credit for. He is much longer than he is tall, he's hard to move, and I think he has the ability to score. Time will tell.

More importantly, the present is awfully exciting for the program right now. They are legit and they are really fun to watch!

Dupree is a combo guard. He has the ability to play off the ball or on the point. Adding Carlin and getting Lindberg back next year will give Saul a lot more flexibility and ball handling in the back court.

Did Lindberg get medical redshirt

He didn't redshirt previously and he hasn't/won't play at all this season. Therefore, this is a "regular" redshirt season and there is no need to apply for a medical hardship waiver. He will have 3 more years of eligibility.

Q: Do you have any favorites yet?
A: I haven’t really decided who my favorites are. I’m trying to get to most of the schools. I’ve been to Wyoming, Northern Colorado, North Dakota, North Dakota State. I’ve been to Saint Louis, too. I’m going to Utah State with Carson Shanks and his dad.

Jon Sobaski, 6-foot-1, Jr. PG Prior Lake.

Sobaski was sensational in Prior Lake's win over Rice Lake scoring 21 and dropping several dimes to create for teammates. Sobaski did so much to impress as a true point. His ability to turn an opponents mistake into the perfect transition score was on display as was his ridiculous quickness with the basketball. Jon flies up the floor utilizing the push dribble and his reads on cutting teammates are outstanding. He also knocked down three treys in the halfcourt set and zipped passes to cutting teammates from start to finish. On the big stage Jon Sobaski performed like a star and you can bet that this game disc will be in the hands of colleges all around the country. South Dakota and North Dakota State are the smart schools that offered early.

I wish this kid all the luck in the world and hope he is the PG of the future at NDSU. But I'm personally a little disappointed as I was hoping that PG of the future was going to be Tanner Kretchman from Davies. I don't know if Kretchman is a D1 basketball player. He is in my eyes but that doesn't mean much. No reason at all that Saul and Co. would take 2 PG's in the same class so Mr. Sobaski is the guy that runs the show.

I seriously doubt Saul goes after another PG. We will need multiple bigs bad and are limited with schollys. Doesn't mean anything now and the situation will work itself out with playing time but as of now after next year we will have 6-8 Kading and a 6-7 Werner as our tallest players. Kading has been a great get but it will be rough as it is to have 2+ true freshman being thrown into the mix for the 14-15 season.

I think Tanner is a highly skilled kid, that can really score in North Dakota High School basketball. This is not a knock on him, but at the D1 level, you must defend as well, and his a very small kid. 150lbs isn't going to guard a Nate Wolters, Lawrence Alexander, Carlin Dupree type PG in the Summit. I have been following him closely and would hope he gets a shot to play at the highest level his abilities can take him. He is only a Junior, so maybe he could get to 180 lbs in 3 years (with a redshirt).

Is young Mr Kretchman any relation to Len Kretchman? Hall of Fame WR from the 1980's. If I remember correctly he was on tv for waterskiing as well back then, barefootin' or something like that. Was impressed they could do that in Fergus Falls on the Pelican River (sure wouldn't want to try that on the Red River). Anyways,

Not sure if Tanner is related to the Bison WR. BTW, Len was the WR and his younger brother Jon was the water skier who set some world records. They are all great athletes, that's for sure.

Anyway, Jacobson had an outstanding EDC tournament - great pickup for NDSU.

i watched the 2nd half the refs let shanley back into the game. they were calling a lot of tacky fouls. SM did choke at the line and could have won it but missed a bunch at the end of regulation. The wrong players were shooting imo for St. Marys at the end of OT and that did them in. SM will be very good against next season only losing one player

AJ does it all. No wonder Creighton and Northern iowa were looking at him early. AJ is 6'6" and can score, rebound, pass, block shots and run the court. The Bison got a steal and AJ will be leading the Herd into the NCAA's down the road.

His mom (then known as Pat Smykowski) was also N.D.'s Miss Basketball in 1984 and she had a great career at NDSU.

I watched him in the state tournament. For as much as AJ scores he really never dominated the ball. His teamates were always involved. IMHO, that really bodes well for transition to the college game. Also, he made some nice passes.

Oops, better edit myself, Ian Theissen does not show NDSU as an interest of his for 2014. Currently has
offers from Cal Poly, Drake and Northern Colorado, according to Rivals.
Well, he's 6' 9" and from a Minnesota H.S., perhaps NDSU will take a look (or have already), .......as Silk says, need bigs!
