So.......

I admit to being about as far outside the inner circle of bison football as there is, but is NDSU planning anything special at the season opener for hanging another championship banner? I will be there either way, but would seem appropriate.

I am sure someone has some "inside" info.

They've announced "honoring the championship team" in the few bits on gobison.com and I know they'll be receiving rings - couldn't say if it'll include banners or not.

Umm....we all know they will be getting rings

They will do something for the banner

Isn't the ring presentation at the spring game, and not the regular season home opener?

I think so. By the first game its all in the past

His question wasn't about the ring presentation though, it was about hanging a championship banner in the dome. I don't see why there wouldn't be sometype of presentation at both games.

I want them to make a big deal out of hanging the banner at the season opener. I think it would be sweet if they:

1. Do the regular intro for the first home game.
2. When the usually cut to Bohl leaving the locker room, they show the banner being dropped.
3. 10 second video of Bohl saying, "if you liked last year, your going to LOVE this year"
3. Cut to Bohl leaving the locker room

Only taking a few minutes and it may drive fans to hysteria.

Damn, with that idea I am ready for the season RIGHT NOW!!! This scene would be awesome.

My dream season opening would be something like this:

The dome is packed to the rafters with 19,000 pumped up Bison fans ready to continue the success of last season. Everyone is in green and gold, most are wearing some sort of national championship gear. The Gold Star Band takes the field and plays the fight songs and the Alma mater to the cheers of the crowd. The lights turn off and the crowd goes crazy. It stays dark. The chant of "Let's Go Bison" starts in the student section and eventually results in the entire crowd screaming it. A new video comes on the video boards. It is a montage of last season's highlights leading up to the championship game highlights. It also shows pictures and video of the history of the other 8 titles and honors the tradition that led us here. The video ends, the lights are still out in the dome. Spotlights then shine to an empty spot in the rafters. Some sort of inspirational music is played as the banner is unfurled for all to see. Then the regular countdown video plays as now the noise of the crowd is deafening. The team runs out of the tunnel once again wearing the yellow jerseys they won the title in. A moment of silence is given to honor the late Ron Erhardt. The band plays the National Anthem and the crowd is as loud as ever at the end while singing, "And the home of the BISON!!" Everyone is up for the kickoff and here we go again with another season of Bison football!!

Add in as many of last year's seniors as possible to unveil the banner and that's about as good as it can get.

The inspirational song you are looking for would be Thunderstruck at the point in the song where it goes, "We went to Texas, yeah Texas, and we had some fun!" Then boom, the pyrotechnics go off like never before with a spotlight shining on last years seniors at the NEW 50 yard line and another spotlight on the championship banner as it is unveiled to the glory of us all! I'm getting goosebumps for that day!

Agree, but don't put the seniors on the 50, put them directly beneath the banner* as it's being unfurled. Two spotlights on the seniors(east & west); two spotlights on the banner.

*unless the banner is at midfield, then the seniors would be on the 50

Love it! I would just change two small details. The team needs to be on the field when the banner is revealed, and I would rather have the banner slowly raised from the field to the rafters to give everyone a better look at it, and to make the moment last longer.

How about they do what they did at the SDSU game a few years back and have some National Guardsmen drop from the rafters to pick up the banner and "escort" it back up.

I agree, raise the banner from the floor to the rafters. If will definitely have a longer and more powerful effect. I'm not sure about having the team out or not. Part of me wants all those players to see the banner that they worked hard to achieve get raised up and see it immortalized in the dome. The other part of me wants next years team to realize that last year has nothing to do with the here and now. This is already being done according to some interviews I have heard from coaches. One example is how when winter lifting started, to make the point of looking forward not backwards, none of the players were allowed to wear any championship shirts in the weight room. The coaches will do what is best. They know that the championship needs to be recognized and players need to be applauded while at the same time not losing focus with the fact that they are back to square one and new goals are ahead of them regardless of how the pregame program occurs, it is going to be a moment not to soon forget.

To me that makes no sense. Wearing a championship shirt in the weight room would be a constant reminder of why I was in that room in the first place. Plus not wearing a championship t-shirt sounds ridiculous when after they leave the BAS they will be wearing a N/C ring the size of a freaking hub cap.

That's an angle I hadn't thought of, but I still say they need to be on the field when it happens. How can you possibly justify telling the guys like Brock, Sam, Colten, Marcus, Billy, etc. that they won't be allowed to on the field to watch their championship banner go up because they need to focus on the new season?

I think with the new one going up it's about time to put some real banners up. Like about 5x the size of the current ones. They are so podunk!
