That kind of sucks, especially considering the rabid fan base. It's fun to watch the names come in real time.

That is ONE thing I am envious of at UND...Not sure why that isn't happening, but my guess is its a conscious decision to not participate in one.

I don't know why but it seems NDSU likes to keep it somewhat guarded and showcase all of the signings at once atthe evening signing party sponsered by Teammakers. I don't know if that is the reason or not but I would rather see them do both.

I have heard they like to keep the integrity of the sinings by announcing them together and not individually, in hopes of curtaining any high hopes for any specific individual.

I actually like that it gives the notion of family as one instead of individually.

Hopefully this class ends up being a good one! Transitioning to the college level is pretty tough for some kids (CAS probably has stories) while other kids make the transition a lot more seamlessly. I think Woods and Warren both look like very good receivers from their highlight tape on the the NDSU football facebook page. That is a position where they could be asked to play immediately possibly?

WR seems to be a position that is very tough to come in and be very good at the first year. Over the years I have noticed it at just about all levels from College freshmen to JC transfers to even in the NFL. It seems to take a year to get the timing and reads and chemistry with the QB's down.

Good point. Juco receivers are almost always busts. West coast offense is complicated and takes a while to learn. Thats why redshirting is the way to go. Goes to show how impressive it was for Moody to play. Then again we lost 2 guys to injury plus Duschner

Nice !

Deveon Dinwiddie (RB) – North Dakota State University: The 5-8, 179-pound redshirt freshman from Hutchinson High, led the 2011 Blue Dragons in rushing with 860 yards on 143 carries and 12 touchdowns. His 90-yard run against Independence tied for the second-longest run from scrimmage in team history.

Dinwiddie had four games rushing for 100 or more yards, including a season-high 135 yards against Independence, which came on just six carries. He had 134 yards on 20 carries against Garden City.

North Dakota State was the Football Championship Subdivsion (FCS) national champion in 2011. Dinwiddie earned second-team all-conference honors as a redshirt freshman. He missed his true freshman year because of injury.

Do JUCO transfers sign LOI, or some other comittment document when they are considered "transfers"? Still a bit concerned on this, as I like, BNeil, think we should have at least 1, if not more, RB's in every class. Remember RB's can be switched fairly easily to other, needed positions. DJ to LB, Voit to Punter, etc.

You may be on to something. He signed an NLI with KSU before he went juco. He can sign a 2nd NLI in the year of his graduation from juco, in which case the original NLI becomes void. It may be that NDSU can't announce him until he graduates from juco because of his first NLI.

With respect, I feel this is the biggest misconception in the game of football. Just because you are small doesn't mean you can't carry the ball as many times as a larger back.

The argument is always, well they can't take the beating. I would argue they don't take the same hits that a bigger back would take.

If the back is smaller, typically they are quicker and more agile, otherwise they probably wouldn't be playing RB. Because of that, the defense isn't able to square them up as often and put a good hit on him. They often take a glancing blow and spin off it, or you grab an ankle and hold on.

Small backs are fine as long as thier style of running allows them to not take the big hits as often as a big guy would.

Edit: When Barry Sanders was in his prime, he was 5'8", 200. Chris Johnson is 5'11" 195.

Pulled this off of the 2009 recruiting summary. It's what Hallstrom wrote after speaking with 2 QB's that NDSU were interested in. I'd say it worked out pretty well for us.:)

"Brock Jensen verballed today, as we sort of expected after talking to him last night....Someday I'll blog about this but the difference in the phone conversations between him and AJ Westendorp was immense. None of us has any idea how these two will turn out as college players, but Westendorp is more highly regarded by all of the football people I've talked to. That being said, Jensen sounded like USC offered him when I talked to him last night. I thought he was going to jump through the phone and try to get to Fargo right now. AJW was, as I've posted here before, very unsure of the whole thing. Again, DOES NOT MAKE HIM A BAD PERSON, but there's no question that one guy is going to come to NDSU and feel like he's the luckiest kid on earth, while the other would have looked at it as an acquired taste.

Jensen says Wisconsin offered him a preferred walk-on, but he told them early in the process that he wanted to find a full-ride offer. He said he's talked to some people that did the walk-on thing and you're fighting that stigma from day one (from coaches and teammates). Says he's 6-3, 208 right now (must look pretty good in a high school uniform), and says the experience of leading his team to a high school state title was big for his confidence. He's very confident but in an unassuming way. Called me sir about 6 times, and very well spoken. Mom and Dad appear to have done well. He had 2700 combined yards last season and 33 TD.

He said he had a lot of respect for Vigen and Bohl because they were up front with him right away about where he stood (that there were 2 guys on NDSU's list ahead of him), but he didn't take offense at all.

He also told me that NDSU coaches have now told him that he is the only QB they plan to take this class, so unless something happens late, it appears that they have cut bait on Taylor Davis, the AZ kid."

C'mon tho, the book isn't closed. Do I think we got the right guy? It sure as hell appears we did, but Westendorp could develop(I don't know the QB situation at CMU) into a good QB.

Obviously, Brock wanted to be here which is awesome. AND, when people say he wasn't offered by any school, so it should have been a red flag, I'd say him getting a PWO at Sconi speaks for itself, no? Kind of surprising schools weren't more interested...he is just a winner.

Here is Davis:

I would say as far as that situation is closed, the book is completely closed nad really could not have worked out much better.

Meh. Did Brock win us a national title? Yep. What more could we ask of him? Not much. I'm not disputing that we got the right guy, but Westendorp may have done the same thing here...theres no telling. It'll be interesting to see how he ends his career too.

Brock did have one of the best statistical seasons of a passer (note the distinction from "quarterback" as we've had some incredible running QBs here over the years) in school history. Set the single-season record for passing yards, fell one short of the record for completions, and all with a pretty dilapidated WR corps. Not bad.

Of course the book is closed. Westendorp chose someone else and Brock chose NDSU (and I'm very glad he did). Now if you want to compare Mohler to Brock that would be a different situation as both were our QB's and instead the coaches chose Brock to lead the team so Jose decided to see if he could get playing time somewhere else.

I wonder if Lakes is still dating Jose, or if he dropped him now that he isn't our starting QB?:(

The single season record for passing yards is a *little* misleading. He still did it, so you can't take that away from him, but 4 extra games were added to his stats. Same with our two 1k yard rushers(first since Gordon/Perkins right?).

Yabut one would also have to factor in the total plays run, how many were run plays, how many pass plays etc. and then do some sort of math that my remedial skills don't allow. It could also be that I have no effing idea what I am even talking about-->must be taking over for Tranny in his wife-dictated absence if that is the case!!!??

The records books also reflect records set in years when our DII championship teams were playing 13,14 games a year.

the only reason I know we had football at north is because I made a few friendly wagers on the north/south games.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a parent of a Fargo South football player this last fall. Guy tells me their biggest rival is WF and then Davies after that. I'm confused. I grew up on the northside and I always thought South and North were the biggest rivals. When did this change?

Fargodome 1994 when a lanky WR dropped a TD with under 2 minutes and let WF win their first state football championsip 6-2.

Couldn't ask for much more than what Brock did at qb this year. How can you argue a national championship? If everyone stays healthy I think it is a real possibility that he could surpass his 2011 stats next year. Its always hard to factor in the senior athletes that will be lost, but we will hopefully get some injured recievers back next year. Plus we have some good talent from this recruiting class.

Go over to the Whioux forum and look at the recruiting thread. At about the time Molberg verballed to the Whioux last year they were talking about what a good get it was for them (and it was) and what a coup it was to get him to commit over NDSU. In that discussion they discussed how NDSU needed him because of how "marginal" Jensen is as a DI QB. As I said in another thread, this was coming from the fans of a football team that had the largest collection of useless QBs in FCS, which is why they signed what, four this year? Priceless...

The old dreaded turf toe can be a recurring problem. However, the new turf should lessen the possibility of this nagging problem popping up in 2012.
So glad that Brock has two more seasons.

Brock has a championship and the leadership experience to get another one before he leaves. I'll take Brock over the Super Joe Molberg potential anyday. He went to UND beacause he knew Brock was here for two more years and he wants to play in his first two years. That can and probably will happen there and it would not have happened here w/o injuries. Would I have liked to see Molberg come here? Yes, but that wasn't going to happen w/o him having a great chance to start after his readshirt year.

I think McGinnis is a better get, IMO. Nebraska spent time recruiting him, even tho his style of play was a complete contrast to the style of QB they are looking for at this point. I thought that was rather telling.

I graduated from South in 1986 and West Fargo seemed to be a bigger rivalry in boys basketball. North was easily our biggest rival in every other sport back then.
