Too bad they don't have a "big game" win %. Hard to define "big game" but I'd say FBS schools, games when conf. title on the line, playoffs etc....

I think it would be more like 32 years. Some of the stats are irrelevant. Farley teaches scrum.

This rating system obviously weighs all games the same. Farley is a top level coach in the regular season but he sucks a pacifier in the fetal position once the postseason begins.

Ok so its really ndsu 1 title in 4 years

university of northern iowa 0 titles in 32 years

I only quickly looked at the list but I didn't see Fritz. And SHSU fans were giving us crap about how great a coach he is. Like I said it was a quick scan but I didn't even see his name on the list. Probably didn't look close enough.

Any FCS coaching rating should factor in playoff success.

I would have thought Mussman would have been top 5, they had a great 8-3 year and really turned the program around.

Clearly the number of Gatorade baths was not a part of the criteria. Shame...

Gatorade bath + storming the field after beating Sioux Falls on a last second field goal. Classic and great win for their program.

Once I find the "Moral Victory Coach of the Year" rankings, i'll link to it. I am sure Muss is as the top of that list.

I'd like to see the formula used to get that index. It must use the rankings by category rather than the numerical values that determined the rankings in the first place.

Especially since this was an embarrising JV conference made up of misfit schools back in 2004. Wonder if the Herald remembers those days.

Fritz isn't an FCS coach. He accepted a new job before the NC game.

New Mexico

Yes New Mexico is correct. I have actually been following their recruiting. They have been selling these kids on something that I cant put my finger on, but somehow they are getting some pretty decent recruits. They got an O-Lineman out of Vegas's Bishop Gorman that I think is an absolute steal. I mean if UNM is getting hometown Vegas kids who have UNLV offers it is somewhat suspicious to me. They also got a safety (Philippi) from same high school whose father was a former Strongman competitor and is entrenched in Vegas.

I coulda swore the SHSU coaches went to New Mexico State-->the same team that beat the Goofs b4 us. Correct me if I am wrong-->that's OK.

No it is New Mexico. SHSU beat that New Mexico team in the regular season.

I agree. Any formula that doesn't take into account playoff appearances, wins in the playoffs, etc., it flawed in my opinion.

Besides that, how updated is the information? It has Craig in at 7 years, he just finished his 9th.

CaBisonFan

The only ranking that matters is the team's ranking...which makes Craig Bohl the best coach in the FCS this year.

It's really not that complicated. If a coach hasn't recruited well...then he hasn't coached very well.

If he hasn't been at a school long enough to recruit his players...then he doesn't deserve a ranking yet.

He was a DII coach for two of those years.

On a somewhat related note, SN Craig Haley has a recent column that Keeler from Delaware may be on Rutgers radar to replace Schiano as HC. Keeler's weakness is that he has never coached at all at the FBS level.

Haley also mentions a few other FCS coaches that should be considered for FBS jobs, obviously Bohl is one of them, mentioning his extensive FBS experience.
