Things are an absolute mess at the CSU Football program. This is just the latest event. We ought to pound the hell out of the Rams.

We'll be swinging in there at an interesting time. I don't envy the team, the coaches, or the fans.

I hope it's not the case but I wouldn't be surprised if they bought out the game. Program in shambles, new coach, probably aren't going to want to play the defending FCS National Champs.

I want to go to this game so bad...if they do buy it out i hope it's sooner rather than later. However, i can't really see a FBS team stooping as low as to buy out a home game against a FCS team even though we are clearly better than they are.

We are? Where, on paper? When was the last time we played CSU? Next year's game will be played with many different players and coaches than the teams had on the field in 2011. NDSU should expect a tough game. Remember that any loss can jeopardize a team's playoff opportunities.

Anyone remember the Wyoming game? I still think we were the better team, but we just couldn't pull that one out. Even though it's a very poor FBS team, it certainly won't be a cake walk.

We were a team that was is deep trouble in Wyoming. We just did not know it yet. That was the beginning of the slide into mediocrity.

Didn't Roehl have his high ankle sprain in that game? That certainly did not help the game or the rest of the season. 08-09 is kind of blurry in my memory. I haven't fully deleted those years yet.

Their new HC came from Alabama. I'll speculate he will whip them into shape and have them ready assuming he learned anything from Sabin.

You have to have talent to whip into shape first. He may be a good hire in the long run, but right now he is walking into a $#!+ show. I honestly think we win this one by a couple scores.

Mertens had what seemed like 9 interceptions that game (I think it was actually 3) but we were never out of the game and if we could have just sustained a drive we could have won.

Ah the Wyoming game.... We P#SS POUNDED them with the run in the first half and then our halftime adjustment was to quit running the ball and start passing. :facepalm2:

We ran the ball effectively against WYO until Roehl got hurt, we could then barely move the ball, and Mertens began to show his real identity by throwing interceptions. We also had a number of dropped passes. Additionally, WYO started running the ball down our throats with the spread/read option (this is when that issue became apparent). The next game, YSU did the very same thing, with even more effectiveness. I am not chalking this game up as a victory until I see the final score.

Agreed.

And seriously, when anyone looks at a team and projects how good they will be, they look at the returning starters. The Bison return 12 of 24, which includes the specialists. That is a relatively low number.

Now, there can be exceptions, especially with BCS champion Alabama which has had five consecutive top 5 recruiting classes, so next year with only 9 returing starters they are projected anywhere from #3,

I think this is an exception, rather than the rule. NDSU will be very good, don't get me wrong, but will they be in Frisco next year as some have suggested? While they piss pound a FBS team like they did last year in Minneapolis? I don't know, but I suspect that since the CSU game is only the second game of the year and there will be 12 new starters (including the specialists), this game will be a very tough one.

I'd disagree that we "couldn't run the ball after Roehl got hurt". We had guys behind him that were good enough to keep trying. We quit trying. Everything ended up being 3 passes and done after the very first series of the 2nd half.

CSU should be fun either way.

very tough?

think youre stretching it a little bit on that one. csu blows, and won a whole 1 game in the mwc.

new qb, new coach. seen this before. added to the fact that ndsu would be favorites this season. bison by 10 and it wont even be close

Wyoming game disaster can be laid directly on one person. You know, that fellow that every series ended in either an INT, a sack, or a fumble. I won't say his name because there are two people on here who go ballistic if you criticize him .

I remember they said we would need oxygen on the sidelines because of the elevation. We were in really good shape and didn't use oxygen, but man my legs were tired in the fourth quarter.

csu does bring back about 18 starters i read on their forum. not sure how much better they will be. according to them they have an easy schedule next season, im sure they think theyll beat us plus the MWC loses TCU

I have hunted the mountains in MT many times. Seems to me when you get above 7-8k feet you really notice the elevation. Elevation at the CSU stadium is about 5200 ft. WY is about 7200. Big difference.

Tru dat^^^. Then move up to 10-11 ft-->feels like your legs weigh 100 pounds a piece and you spend 6-7 days as a mouthbreather, much like a Who fan or the insanely in shape, crossfit-training, runtheoption man!!

Not only that but I remember that this headline could have been written about us last year in the off season.
"North Dakota State QB Leaves Team"
We turned out okay. This could be good for them too. Definitely winnable, but not a gimme.

I distinctly remember Mr. Wurzbacher dropping a pass that hit him right in the hands. It was on 3rd and a mile and it would have given us a first down and kept the drive alive. You make that first down right there late in the 4th quarter and we are the ones kicking a game winning FG. I remember having to ask Wyoming fans that were giving me crap, where they'd been for the first 3 quarters because they had been awfully quiet.

Agree on 7k being a big difference from 5k around Ft Collins. I hope nobody brings up the elevation at CSU as a reason the Bison will not play well. That is an absolute cop out. The elevation in Fort Collins is very easy to adjust to. I have done plenty of long distance running, as well as weight training in the area to know from personal experience that for well conditioned athletes they will barely notice it.

Bison take this game by 14+. Obviously subject to change as the year progresses given injuries, suspensions, new developments, etc but that is where I see us at right now.

And it is 13 out of 24 starters that we return to keep the facts straight, and it is really a misleading statistic. This was by no means a heavy senior class. We return almost all of our most talented players (Holloway, Richards, Cornick; the only 3 lost IMO that will have high difficulty directly replacing), with decent to great depth at most every position. Some say RB is weak behind Ojuri, this position will develop I have complete faith in that absolutely no doubt in my mind at all. Every position but our kicking game (which I have not seen enough of to make any call on) has at least a pretty good starter at this point in January already penciled in. Name one year since going DI that we have had less question marks at this point in the year as we do now? I have said it before and I'll say it again, replace Cornick and Richards and this team is something very special and only touched the surface in 2011. Don't replace them and I could see us fall as low as 8-3 or 7-4 if we get hit hard by injuries. I have reason to believe we have the lineman to get it done. A team capable of pulling a Central Michigan on the rams given the right circumstances.

This here!

Watched CSU play a game this year....worse than MN. Then add the new coach with new offensive and defensive schemes.

The Bison have a very good chance of winning this game.

Actually good thought. From a money making point, I wonder what a buyout is worth, $700k? Then schedule a home game for additional revenue. I don't think this will happen though.

I know the elevation really had an impact on me as well. By the 10th beer I was in pretty rough shape.
